I AM BARBARIAN
Chapter 24: Kiki Is Scary
Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Kiki Is Scary
"Milkshake22," a feminine voice called to Victor.
With haste, he wiped his tears away. "Yes, yes... I am here." He turned.
It was the girl taking care of Jaja. The same one he had saved a night before.
Victor had come to learn that she was called Coco.
Victor was starting to understand that Barbarian names usually had a ring to them. Maybe it was because their culture was quite primitive, but they all had names that was easy to remember, pronounce, or call out in times of trouble.
Coco was smaller, having the well blessed carved body of a babarian woman, definitely of adult age. But according to Babarian culture, she was a less desirable option.
Why?
She was what was called a Gatherer, a lower caste in the babarian tribe, much like Foto.
Their job was in farming the land, taking care of the sick and elderly, and serving the tribe when needed.
Too bad. Victor knew that with her features, she would have been a top model in his previous world.
Coco had her arms around herself, like she wanted to say something, but was holding herself back.
A lower caste attempting to speak to the son of a king?
And to top it up, the son that brought down a Basalt Dragonic Lizard.
What a joke.
Victor noticed her awkwardness. He sighed, "don’t worry you may speak."
"Erm... I ... wanted to thank you." She whispered, looking away fearfully.
"Thank me?"
She nodded. "For saving his life."
"Jaja?" Victor asked.
She nodded.
Victor wanted to ask why, but he could tell that he would be asking a rather private question she would have no choice but to answer out of respect for him.
Still, he could tell that she cared for Jaja a lot.
He nodded with a smile, "you are welcome."
She kept quiet for a while. Then she took a step forward, forcing herself to spill the contents of her heart. "...And I really hope you become chief, because you are kind."
Okay that was a little awkward. Victor thought.
Silence passed between them for a few seconds. Victor did not exactly know what to say.
He understood her wishes. But these wishes were practically insulting the current chief of the tribe who was his brother.
And yet, her showing her support for him filled him with a kind of warmth.
At such a time, the wind blew. The light of the twin moon seemed to get brighter at just the right angle to let Victor see a little too much thigh... smooth and glossy.
Once his eyes saw it, they could not peel away. He gulped. Loudly.
Too loudly.
She quickly noticed something was wrong. And then her eyes widened, staring at his lower body.
Victor followed her eyes. Something stirred in his pants, shocking even him.
Shit! Shit!! Shit!!!
He cursed turning sharply.
She also turned embarrassed. And then she bowed before excusing herself, running away.
Wait... it’s a misunderstanding. I didn’t mean.
"Arhhh... I really did not mean to do that. It just acted on its own."
He sighed.
Victor could only hope that she somehow found it in her heart to forgive him. Then again, this was a Babarian culture. If it was in the other world, he would have been tagged a pervert.
He sighed again, allowing the tension out of his body.
SMACK.
His hands slapped his cheeks. I can’t be thinking about that right now. They are other things. More important things to think about.
This was true. He had challenged Popo to a fight. Victor did not know how to fight, and was not so foolish to think that he could win in a fight against Popo, the same person that brought down Jaja.
Of course, the greatest reason he had done it was because he planned to leave. But could he just leave like that?
Arhhhh!!!! I am just overthinking it. I should just leave now.
He stood up and headed towards the edge of the village.
However, just as he passed the last broken hut, a voice stopped him.
"Not bad... you waited till the dead of night first. I thought you would have ran immediately."
Victor paused. He turned.
Kiki. She sat behind the hut, broad sword at her side.
Victor froze. He turned to her, "what do you mean... I uhhh.. I was only taking a stroll... hahaha..."
SWUNGGGG.
Her blade was at his throat. How she had closed the distance, he hadn’t seen.
He paused. What the hell is wrong with this woman? Always having her blade to my neck.
Silence existed between them.
Then she spoke. Low. Just enough that only Victor heard it.
"Just know that if you leave now, Jaja dies a shameful death."
Her other hand reached for his pouch at his side. She patted it twice.
Then she turned, walking back into the village, broad sword on her shoulder.
Victor watched her endowed waist retreat, but for the first time, no perversive thoughts came to mind.
Just puzzlement.
How did she know what he was planning?
This was an important question.
Even if he was going to run away, there was only so far he could go. The Boundary was the natural limit. So no one had to be worried that he would run from the fight. There was nowhere to run to.
But not Kiki. She still came, waited for him.
And then that thing she did, touching his pouch. Almost as if she knew what was hidden there.
Almost as if she knew that he had the Beast Bead that could help him escape the boundary.
If she knew, why didn’t she stop him?
Then again, it was not the first time Kiki was doing something strange.
Like when Victor had interrupted the match between Popo and Jaja.
Kiki clearly saw him. But she did not stop him.
Yet again, she did not stop him.
Was it all just a show to her? Was she observing what decision he would make?
What was her goal in all of this?
