I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 1045 - 499: Interviewer Gauss
Black light coiled around the dragon scales, making his arm look like the thick, sturdy limb of a monster.
BOOM!
Under Sabrina’s astonished gaze, Gauss raised his hand and firmly grasped the tip of the spear. Then, gripping the shaft, he viciously hurled Sabrina—who was still holding on tightly—through the air.
CRASH!
The impact was tremendously forceful. Sabrina smashed hard into the ground, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
"Sab!" the Bard in the distance cried out in horror, seemingly having forgotten this was just a test.
Visible musical notes drifted down onto the female Knight. Upon receiving the Healing Aura, the female Knight’s pale face instantly regained much of its color. Bracing herself, she struggled up from the ground.
"Can you still hold on?" Gauss calmly asked the downed female Knight, casually swatting away another volley of arrows fired by the tracker, Spencer.
"Of course!" Excitement flashed in the female Knight Sabrina’s eyes—a burning will to fight. She had expected the commander of the Red Dragon Team she was applying to join to be strong, but she never imagined he would be *this* strong.
"Good." The corners of Gauss’s mouth curled up slightly before his body vanished from his spot once again.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
For the next while, Gauss practically pinned down the three humans and one beast, beating them ruthlessly in a deeply satisfying brawl.
Yes, he didn’t even forget to "greet" the Dwarf Minstrel, Byron. Enemies wouldn’t care whether you were a combat Profession or not. In fact, support Professions like him were the most likely to bear the brunt of the first wave of attacks. Before healing your teammates, you needed to protect yourself first. Having thick skin and the ability to take a beating was also a necessary quality. Gauss could also use this opportunity to test his current physical fitness combined with the power of Overload.
At first, the trio and the beast were full of fighting spirit, but as time passed, their will to fight quickly drained away, replaced by continuous screams of pain.
Standing on the ground, Gauss clapped his hands together. Looking at the bruised and swollen group sprawled across the dirt, an unsatisfied expression lingered on his face. Professionals at merely level seven or eight really couldn’t take a beating. However, he couldn’t continue. If he beat them any further, their bodies would suffer genuine damage.
"We’ll stop here for today. Get some good rest, and report to the Red Dragon Team on time tomorrow morning for registration."
Having said his piece, Gauss turned and walked away.
Though the three had been beaten terribly, they were Master Level Professionals after all; they weren’t so fragile as to require medical treatment. Hearing Gauss’s words, the trio—whose minds had gone completely blank as they stared at the sky, assuming they had failed the interview—instantly flushed with excitement. The Earth Lizard, which was panting on the ground, also lifted its head at the news.
They helped each other up.
"Did... did we pass the test?"
"We must have. Didn’t the commander tell us to report tomorrow?"
"Phew, that’s wonderful!"
"Hiss! You crazy woman, why did you pinch me?"
"I’m just so happy!"
The three celebrated for a moment. Before coming, they had asked around and heard that even Master Level Professionals had been rejected from joining the Red Dragon Team. This had left them feeling anxious the entire time leading up to the test. Combined with their performance just now—where they had been completely suppressed and beaten from start to finish—they had assumed they’d lost all chances of joining the Red Dragon Team.
But things had taken a sudden turn for the better, and they received approval. The ecstasy of passing the test temporarily overpowered the pain racking their bodies.
"But still, Commander Gauss is way too strong," the Bard, Byron, pointed out, ruining the mood. "Haven’t we heard he was famous for his powerful Spells? It seems the commander didn’t use a single Spell just now..."
"..."
Sabrina and Spencer instantly fell silent. They wondered what they were even happy about.
They had just been pinned down and beaten half to death by a Caster using purely physical strength. And it was visibly obvious that the opponent still had plenty of power to spare.
He was practically a monster...
