Chapter 21: Darkest Truth About Darkest Day

Hearing his words, it would be a lie to say Levi wasn’t interested.

No, he knew what he needed to do.

He had already decided this last night, so there was nothing to ponder about this.

He had one plan. Find a way to help his sister get stronger. If he could help his parents, then things would only be better.

"I understand your objective. I will try my best."

Levi nodded his head.

The Mayor noticed confusion in his eyes and asked.

"It seems like you have a question. Please, go ahead!"

Levi asked.

"From the perspective of a Martial Apprentice, if he could forge a stronger bone and obtain more combat experience, wouldn’t it be better for him to just enter the Guild?"

"Could it be that even they can’t access the Star Crystals?"

The Mayo smiled and asked.

"Then, you can tell me something. Why do you think university students do not cooperate with the guilds?"

"They do?"

Levi was genuinely surprised.

The Mayor nodded.

"Of course, they do! Most of the earnings for university students come from those Guilds."

"Let me ask you something! Where do you think Guilds earn their wealth from?"

Levi answered, though a bit hesitant about his answer.

"Not exactly!"

The Mayor’s smile slowly disappeared as he opened a new file in his phone and the hologram changed.

It showed three people covered in darkness with bold letters written below them.

"This is a group of people who have gone mad from Primitive Evolution."

"Wait? Are these people insane? Don’t they understand the problem with those evolutions?"

Levi stood up in shock as he asked.

The Mayor shook his head.

"They do, but they don’t care. Let me tell you a story about a man! He was an ordinary person who had worked hard to become a Martial Artist."

"For eight years, every day, he trained until his bones ached. But he didn’t succeed. Resources and talent stopped him."

"Many mocked him; many mocked his talent and his efforts, but there were people who supported him."

"His parents and his girlfriend."

At this moment, Levi’s body trembled. Even without hearing the entire story, he could pretty much tell what would happen next.

The Mayor sighed.

"To help their son, his parents went to the wilderness, never to return. They weren’t even Martial Artists."

"It turned out they were hired as porters with high pay. But when the group was in danger, those Martial Artists ran away."

The Mayor sighed and shook his head.

When he heard that title, Levi’s eyes widened.

He didn’t know the details about the Third Darkest Day, but he knew it was one of the most devastating days for humanity.

They lost twenty percent of their martial artists on that day.

Seeing his shocked face, the Mayor continued.

"That day was also the day that gave rise to Humanity’s First Guardian, the current Guild Leader of the Paragon Guild."

"On that very day, humanity lost their safeguard, the shield that had protected them from alien invasion and mindless humans."

"No, in fact, they can no longer be called mindless humans. Although Humanity’s Savior banished them, they survived."

"And due to the barrier thinning out, they managed to contact humans. Fifty years later, a strange organization appeared."

The Mayor heavily sighed.

The Mayor drank some water and replied.

"But weaker alien beings can use their teleportation technology to teleport directly to Earth and launch a fierce invasion."

"To prevent them from reaching cities, Guilds have established a Dungeon System which allows a certain Guild member to gather as many people as possible after the invasion."

"A certain area is given to that Guild member, allowing him to kill those invading forces. If he fails, he can ask for help, but then he will not receive any rewards."

"Because of this, many students are enthusiastic about the invasion even though it is not considered a good thing."

Hearing that, Levi asked.

"So, do these rewards consist of Star Crystals?"

The Mayor shook his head and said.

"Every university has its reward system, using points as rewards. Points can then be used to buy different items from their official inventory."

After saying that, the Mayor looked at Levi and asked.

"So, do you have any other questions?"

Levi thought for a moment and nodded.

"Yeah! Is there a way to identify the members of the Dark Guild? What do they do to normal people?"
