"Hey, bastard! Wake up and get to work!"

SLAP!

A heavy hand struck Elian’s cheek, snapping him instantly awake. His eyes shot open, and he recoiled in a flash, springing backward into a defensive posture. In front of him crouched a burly man clad in polished royal armor.

Questions raced through Elian’s mind.

Because of his sudden, frantic leap, his back slammed violently against the trunk of a towering ancient tree.

"Agh, damn it..." Elian groaned, clutching his back.

He looked up again. Standing behind the burly man were three other men and two women, all staring at him with cold, impatient expressions.

What the hell is going on? Where... where am I?

Elian scanned his surroundings frantically. Thick, towering trees stretched upward into a dark canopy, and a rich, earthy scent of damp foliage filled the night air. Above, a brilliant white moon illuminated a sea of scattered stars.

He was in a forest.

"What are you daydreaming for?" another man scoffed, crossing his arms. "Get up already. We’re not paying you to take a nap."

Elian’s mind froze. Are they talking to me?

None of this made sense. First, he had been exploring a pyramid—how did he end up here? Did he pass out until nightfall? And who were these people in armor standing in the middle of a damp, moonlit forest?

Before he could process the situation—

Throb!

A sharp, agonizing pain pierced his skull, as if someone had driven a spike into his brain. A sudden flood of unfamiliar memories surged into his consciousness.

Ren Celestial. Nineteen years old. An orphan.

The memories overwhelmed him: an upbringing in a now-defunct orphanage, followed by three years of risking his life as a talentless, magicless porter. He was an errand boy—a pack mule carrying supplies for royal knights and heroes hunting monsters outside the kingdom’s walls.

Elian’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief.

What is this...?

The realization hit him like a physical blow. Did I... die? Did I translocate?

He remembered opening the sarcophagus inside the pyramid, reaching for that mysterious purple crystal, and feeling a strange distortion in space. Then, darkness. Now, this.

Monsters... kingdoms... magic...

"Damn it..." Ren—formerly Elian—choked back a breath.

As a rational man, he tried to deny it. *This has to be a dream. A lucid dream.*

To test his theory, he reached down to pinch his arm. But before his fingers could touch skin—

SLAP!

The burly knight slapped him across the face a second time, far harder than before.

Ren’s head snapped sideways. The stinging, searing pain on his cheek was intensely, undeniably real.

His hair stood on end. *I really got thrown into another world...*

"Get it together! You’ve been acting weird all night," the burly man grunted, turning his back. "Get up and carry the supply pack."

Next to Ren lay a massive, elongated brown leather bag.

Ren swallowed hard, holding his burning cheek. No matter how much his logical brain rejected the reality, the pain was undeniable.

"Hurry up!" a woman in a thigh-length combat dress snapped, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword.

Seeing no other choice, Ren braced himself and hoisted the heavy bag. To his surprise, while it looked enormous, his arms didn’t buckle under the weight.

Is this muscle memory? Has this body been conditioned for this exact work?

Without a word, the six squad members set off into the gloom of the forest, and Ren fell in line behind them.

As they marched, the freezing night air cut through his tunic. The ambient eerie quietness did nothing to ease the chill creeping up his spine.

If I really died and can’t go back... Ren thought, staring at the backs of the six armored figures ahead of him. Then I have to survive first. As Ren Celestial.

It was the worst possible starting point. According to Ren’s memories, the territory outside the royal walls was a lawless wasteland overrun by man-eating beasts. The kingdom only survived behind massive walls reinforced with high-tier barrier magic. Outside here, humans were prey.

Damn it. What a terrible hand I’ve been dealt...

Suddenly—

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

The ground violently trembled.

The six elite royal guards froze instantly.

The tremors grew rapidly, making the ancient trees shake so hard their leaves rained down like hail. Ren’s heart hammered against his ribs. A primal instinct buried deep within his inherited memories screamed a single word:

Monster.

Ren’s eyes dilated as he struggled to keep his footing on the quaking earth.

CRASH!

The canopy burst open. Emerging from the darkness, a colossal foot crushed the dense foliage directly in front of the group.

The six royal guards turned deathly pale. Ren froze, his breath catching in his throat as he faced a nightmare in the flesh.

Exposed under the moonlight stood a giant humanoid monster with mottled purple skin. In the center of its chest, an exposed, raw core beat like a grotesque heart. Its glowing red eyes locked onto them, its jagged fangs parted in a sickening grin, and long, razor-sharp claws extended from its massive fingers.

"Form formation! Attack!" the squad leader roared, drawing his enchanted blade.

Sparks of elemental magic flared in the dark. Fireballs, wind blades, and heavy sword strikes rained down on the beast as the six soldiers charged.

For a fraction of a second, Ren held onto a desperate hope that these royal elites could win.

That hope vanished instantly.

With an effortless swipe of its massive arm, the purple monster swept through their line.

SLASH!

Two soldiers were caught by the beast’s claws. The terrifying pressure cleaved their bodies in two, severing one knight’s head before his body even hit the grass.

"AAAGH!"

Another guard was swiped away like a fly, slamming into a tree trunk at terrifying speed—his body bursting into a bloody mist upon impact. A fourth soldier was crushed beneath the monster’s falling foot, flattened into the mud.

The woman in the combat dress attempted to cast a high-level spell, but the beast was unnaturally fast. Its massive purple hand snapped around her torso.

CRUNCH!

Blood erupted from her mouth as the monster squeezed, breaking her spine and crushing her organs instantly. It tossed her lifeless body aside like trash.

In less than ten seconds, six elite kingdom soldiers were slaughtered.

Ren stood paralyzed, petrified by the sheer horror unfolding before his eyes. Trembling uncontrollably, a wave of despair washed over him. *I just reincarnated... Am I really the unluckiest bastard in the universe?!*

The purple humanoid turned its glowing red eyes toward Ren. A sick, satisfied grin stretched across its face as its core throbbed rhythmically.

Ren’s survival instincts violently kicked in.

RUN!

He unbuckled the massive supply pack, letting it drop to the ground, and bolted in the opposite direction. He ran with everything he had, but the difference in stride was insurmountable—one step from the monster covered a hundred of his.

THUMP! THUMP!

The monster gave chase, shaking the ground with every step and making it nearly impossible for Ren to maintain his balance.

Sensual bloodlust filled the air. The monster leaned down, swinging its massive clawed hand through the air with terrifying speed.

SWOOSH—CRASH!

Trees were sliced like matchsticks, collapsing in a domino effect. Ren tried to leap forward, but he was a fraction of a second too late.

SLASH!

The tip of a claw grazed his trailing leg.

"AGH!"

Pain spiked through his mind as his lower leg was cleanly severed. Ren tumbled headfirst into the dirt, rolling several times before coming to a stop.

"ARGHHH! DAMN IT! DAMN IT ALL!"

Ren screamed in agony, clutching his blood-gushing stump. Just meters away, his severed foot lay in the grass. The unbearable pain tore through his nerve endings.

Was this a cosmic punishment? A sick twist of fate for his past skepticism toward the supernatural?

The purple monster slowly crouched down, its giant face appearing between the broken trees. Its terrifying smile widened, dripping thick, viscous saliva onto Ren’s black hair. It wasn’t killing him immediately—it was playing with its prey.

"You bastard...!" Ren wheezed, his vision blurring from rapid blood loss.

Clinging to his final thread of consciousness, with death 100% guaranteed, Ren mustered the very last of his strength to scream into the empty sky, begging whatever deity or force might be listening:

"If there’s any power out there... give me a chance! Give me the tools to shatter this damn fate! I’ll do whatever it takes... just don’t let me die like a dog here!"

Instantly, time ground to a halt.

The blood mid-drip from his severed leg froze in the air. The howling wind ceased. In the middle of absolute silence, a pale blue light burst open before his fading vision.

It was not a robotic chime, but an ethereal echo reverberating directly within his soul.

[REQUEST DETECTED.]

A translucent panel floated over Ren’s pale face, its text pulsing gently.

[WHAT IS YOUR WISH, REN?]

Ren stared at the floating text, his eyes wide. His dying brain was forced back into hyper-drive. This wasn’t a hallucination. It was real.

He bit his tongue hard, letting the sharp burst of pain preserve his fading focus.

Belief didn’t matter anymore. He had to gamble everything on this single straw.

"Get me... out of here..." Ren gasped out, his consciousness hanging by a thread as he coughed up blood. "...and give me my leg back!"
