I Am the Dark God's Fragment: My System Turns Destruction Into Power
Chapter 29: The Shadow of Vorzakh
The purple lights didn’t emit warmth; instead, a heavy, suffocating pressure descended upon the hill, making every breath feel like inhaling cold lead. The particles spun faster and faster, forming a massive, spiraling vortex directly over Vora’s head, casting an eerie, pale shadow over every face on the plateau.
The violet sparks whirled frantically within the scorched heart of the crater, grinding against one another with a rasping, static hum.
Ren locked his knees, his knuckles white as his fingers twitched near his belt. Beside him, Ryu lowered his center of gravity, shifting his weight to his back foot without breaking his stare from the center of the anomaly.
Behind them, the refugees surrounding Liora’s pale form froze in place. Their frantic crying ceased instantly, replaced by a hollow, breathless silence.
The spiraling motes coalesced, twisting together like molten glass until a towering figure tore through the haze.
Standing four meters tall, the abomination was draped in layered, obsidian-purple plating that seemed to absorb the faint daylight. Jagged chitinous spikes jutted from its shoulders and back, gleaming like razor-sharp needles. Its lower jaw split sideways into four barbed mandibles, framing a maw packed with rows of translucent, needle-thin fangs. Horns curved back from its brow like a nightmare crown, while a pair of crimson compound eyes flared open, locking onto the crowd with cold, predatory efficiency.
A heavy, dual-toned aura—sickly violet laced with streaks of rust-red mana—pulsed violently from its torso, rippling outward in visible waves that flattened the dry grass around its hooved feet.
Ren felt a single bead of sweat roll down his temple, tracing his jawline before dripping off his chin. His chest expanded and contracted sharply, the muscle over his sternum throbbing with every hard thump of his heart.
The sheer presence emanating from the newly formed beast slammed into him like a physical wall, rooting his boots to the earth.
In that split second of paralysis, Vora moved.
Her visual impairment clearing, she sidestepped a clumsy jab from Ren’s Void Stalker. Her palm glowed with concentrated violet energy. Pushing off her back foot, she thrust her hand straight into the beast’s chest plate, releasing a dense, spiraling blast of force.
BOOM!
The Void Stalker let out a raspy screech as the kinetic blast shattered its torso plating, driving the temporary summon back five full paces, its legs scraping deep grooves into the dirt.
Ren watched his summoned creature wobble off-balance, the gap between it and Vora widening instantly. Panic tightened its grip on his throat.
Before the Void Stalker could regain its footing, the four-meter titan launched itself straight into the sky.
Ren, Ryu, and every surviving refugee jerked their heads upward, their eyes tracking the massive silhouette as it blotted out the gray light above. The titan hovered at the apex of its leap for a heartbeat before coming down like a falling meteor.
BOOOOOOM—!
The impact tore through the hillside, sending a violent tremor tearing through the bedrock.
Ren lost his footing as the ground heaved, staggering three steps to the side to keep from tumbling into the gravel. Beside him, Ryu skidded backward, digging his boots into the soil to maintain his balance. Behind them, the refugees were thrown off their feet, tumbling onto the hard earth in utter chaos.
As the dust settled slightly, a collective wave of horror swept through the crowd. Pale faces stared at the towering abomination, their expressions twisting into mask-like terror.
"V-Vorzakh..." an elder stammered, his chin quivering as he pressed his back into the dirt.
"An... an A+-Rank Aberrant!" a younger villager gasped, his voice breaking into a terrified squeak as he frantically dragged himself backward on his elbows.
The whispered name traveled through the ranks of the mob like a plague.
’Vorzakh... A+-Rank?’
Ren’s chest heaved. The classification burned into his mind. This wasn’t just another mindless drone—the sheer density of its aura made the previous beasts look like children’s toys. It felt suffocating, heavy, and completely unnatural.
Ren glanced to his right. Ryu’s posture had completely stiffened. The swordsman’s teeth were gritted so hard his jawline bulged, his sword tip trembling ever so slightly as he stared down the newly summoned calamity.
Heavy, deliberate thuds vibrated through the earth as Vorzakh turned its mass toward the Void Stalker.
Thirty paces away, Vora stood with her arms lightly folded, her black off-shoulder dress sweeping around her calves as the mountain wind picked up. A dark, triumphant smile curled her lips—a look that implicitly promised total annihilation.
Without warning, Vorzakh charged forward.
The four-meter behemoth rammed straight into the Void Stalker with the momentum of a runaway siege engine. The jagged spikes protruding from Vorzakh’s chest plunged deep into the Void Stalker’s smooth purple hide, pinning the smaller creature instantly.
CRUNCH!
Before the summon could retaliate, Vorzakh slammed it into the rocky incline, driving its massive hooved foot down onto the Void Stalker’s lower torso. The ground split beneath the force.
Vorzakh’s barbed mandibles flared wide. Reaching down with long, armor-plated arms, it pinned the summon’s shoulders and began tearing into its flesh with feral, methodical brutality. Black energy and thick violet fluids erupted from the wounds, splattering across the gravel in messy arcs.
The Void Stalker thrashed violently, its razor claws scraping uselessly against Vorzakh’s thick shoulder plating, leaving nothing but faint white scratches.
With a low, guttural growl, Vorzakh raised both colossal fists high above its head, weaving dark red mana into its knuckles.
WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!
The brutal hammer-fists rained down upon the Void Stalker’s head in rapid succession. On the fourth strike, the summon’s skull exploded in a shower of dark energy and crushed bone, its body fragmenting into black particles that dissolved into thin air.
Vorzakh slowly straightened its massive spine, chest heaving with deep, raspy breaths like an agitated bull. Wisps of acrid smoke rolled out of its split jaw as its glowing red compound eyes swept past the corpse site, settling directly onto Ren, Ryu, and the defenseless crowd behind them.
Ren swallowed hard, his throat dry as tinder.
A harsh red system ping flashed across his vision:
[WARNING: SUMMONED ENTITY DESTROYED]
"Damn it!" Ren hissed, his fingers clenching into tight fists.
This was completely out of hand. He had calculated for Vora’s standard beast summons, but this titan was a complete wildcard—an absolute engine of destruction that left zero room for error.
Vora took three slow, rhythmic steps forward, stopping beside Vorzakh’s massive calf. She pointed a slender, dark-gloved finger straight at the group.
"Kill them all," she commanded, her voice terrifyingly calm.
Vorzakh’s crimson eyes flashed with intense bloodlust.
The refugees completely froze. The sheer horror of the situation sapped every ounce of fight left in them; many simply collapsed into the dust, their eyes wide and empty, resigned to their impending slaughter. For them, if Liora was gone, fighting this monster was meaningless.
’Think, damn it! Think!’ Ren’s mind spun into overdrive. ’If I die here, it’s game over! I haven’t even been in this world for a full day yet! Dying to some oversized purple bug isn’t how this story ends!’
Vorzakh let out a deafening, metallic roar that shook the surrounding cliffs.
DU-DUM! DU-DUM! DU-DUM!
The four-meter beast sprinted forward, its heavy hooves smashing through boulders and leaving deep, cratered footprints in the bedrock. The speed was unnatural for its size—it covered twenty meters in the span of a single breath.
Beside Ren, Ryu stepped forward, his eyes narrowed as he drew his blade completely out of its scabbard, bracing his boots against the tremors.
Ren turned his head, staring at Ryu in disbelief as the swordsman prepared to take the full kinetic impact of an A+-Rank monster single-handedly.
The distance closed instantly.
Vorzakh leaped into the air, shadowing the sun as it raised its massive, armored claws to crush both teens into blood splatter.
"GRAAAAH!"
Ren’s eyes dilated as the massive silhouette descended upon them, reflecting clearly in his trembling pupils.
"Shit!"
His body locked up under the sheer pressure, the mountain wind howling in his ears as the shadow of death fell over them.
