Ren let out a long, quiet exhale. Looking at the freshly restored stone houses standing side by side in a clean, orderly row brought a surge of genuine satisfaction.

Amidst the subtle relief, a sudden thought crossed his mind regarding the house belonging to the Celestial bloodline. Turning his head toward the left, Ren eyed the specific structure—a ruined shell just moments prior, now fully rebuilt into a sturdy two-story stone residence.

He stepped up to the entrance and pushed the heavy oak door open. Inspecting the clean, empty interior, he noticed the stone staircase leading down into the subterranean level remained entirely intact. The system hadn’t altered the layout; it had merely restored the broken framework back to its original state. Even the Celestial emblem carved onto the roof tiles—previously shattered into dust—sat seamlessly back in its rightful place.

Elysia trailed behind him, stopping near the doorway. "Still planning on poking around down there?"

Ren gave a firm nod. "Yeah. Something like that."

In the back of his mind, he knew there was far more left to uncover in that underground vault. Resolving to return when the time was right, he stepped back outside, shut the door, and memorized the building’s exact location.

"Well, that wraps up Princess Evelyn’s assignment," Ren said, rubbing the back of his neck as he surveyed the twenty newly erected homes enclosed within the massive perimeter wall. "Should I head back and report that the sector is finished?"

Elysia shrugged lightly, adjusting her posture. "Honestly, I have no idea. My sister didn’t give me any specific follow-up orders. I was just told to tag along and keep an eye on you."

"Right. Figures," Ren muttered.

Before he could say anything else, the distinct, measured click of high heels echoed through the stone archway of the main gate.

Both Ren and Elysia turned their heads.

A pristine white dress trailed behind Princess Evelyn as she stepped into the courtyard, the hem of her off-shoulder blue gown fluttering gently in the cool evening breeze. The sky above had shifted into a deep, burning orange.

"Impressive work, Ren," Evelyn said, approaching the pair. She offered a brief, measured clap, her expression as calm and unreadable as ever.

Directly behind her walked a striking woman with silver hair, carrying herself with a sharp, poised aura.

Ren tilted his head, leaning slightly toward Elysia to whisper, "Who’s the woman behind the princess?"

Elysia cast a sideways glance at him, keeping her voice low. "That’s Sylvara. She’s the royal chief strategist and my sister’s personal aide."

’A chief strategist and personal assistant’ Ren thought, his eyes lingering on the two women as they drew near.

’Why do I keep running into women in positions of power around here?’

It struck Ren as somewhat peculiar. The recognized authority figures, heirs, and key operational heads in this kingdom—from Evelyn down to her elite council—were predominantly female. Granted, he had crossed paths with capable male figures like Ryu Kurogane and Arata, and plenty of male guards patrolled the royal grounds, but the top-tier strategic roles seemed heavily skewed.

Ren shook his head slightly, clearing the stray thought. It was too early to draw sweeping conclusions about the social structure of Lumiris; he hadn’t even stepped foot inside the Starlight Hero Academy yet, nor did he fully grasp how the kingdom’s military hierarchy operated.

"I have to admit, I had my doubts about whether you could pull this off on your own," Evelyn said, coming to a halt a few paces away. "You possess extraordinary potential, Ren. Capabilities like yours can become the cornerstone for the survival of human civilization."

Evelyn extended a gloved hand toward him, her tone carrying an unmistakable edge of quiet ambition. "Take charge of this territory. Work alongside us, and together, we can lay the foundation for a far more advanced human settlement."

Elysia’s eyes widened slightly, her lips parting in subtle shock.

For Evelyn to hand over administrative authority over an entire sector to an outsider was unprecedented. Yet, looking at the pristine district created in a matter of minutes, even Elysia had to admit that Ren possessed the raw strategic value to stand as an equal partner to the crown.

Ren stared at Evelyn’s extended hand.

’A leader, huh?’ A faint, internal smile touched his mind. ’Funny enough, that’s exactly what I was aiming for—a territory of my own.’

Ren had no intention of serving under anyone or becoming a glorified tool for foreign nobility. Taking on leadership brought heavy responsibilities and political headaches, but for a former architect who used to draft master plans on Earth, running his own sector felt entirely natural.

"Deal. I don’t have a problem with that," Ren said, his voice steady.

Evelyn’s stoic eyes swept over the newly built residential blocks one last time before returning to Ren. "From this moment onward, you are the official leader of this territory."

She turned slightly toward her assistant. Sylvara stepped forward with quiet grace, handing a crisp parchment document to Evelyn.

Evelyn offered the official treaty to Ren. "Let us work together for the future of humanity."

Ren took the parchment and skimmed the contents.

The document outlined a mutual alliance between the Starlight Kingdom and Ren’s newly restored district, designating them as a unified administrative region under dual leadership. It detailed joint operational terms covering regional defense, agricultural supply sharing, infrastructure development, and strategic resource allocation. At the bottom of the page sat Evelyn’s official signature, right next to an empty line marked with his name.

"If you agree to the terms, sign the document with your blood," Evelyn said, her eyes locked onto his face.

Ren weighed the offer. Politically, the arrangement was overwhelmingly in his favor. Partnering with the Starlight Kingdom granted him structural legitimacy and regional military backing without surrendering control over his land. Evelyn was clearly aiming for rapid human expansion, and his abilities were the ultimate engine for that goal.

"Hold on," Ren said, his brow furrowing slightly. "What do you mean, sign with blood?"

Evelyn didn’t bother offering a verbal explanation. Stepping forward, she grabbed his hand, pulled his left thumb up, and pinched the tip with brutal pressure.

"Tch—" Ren winced as a sharp, prickling sting shot through his thumb. A bead of dark red blood welled up instantly.

’Damn it, talk about an archaic way to sign a contract...’

Before he could pull away, Evelyn pressed his bleeding thumb firmly onto the parchment, right over the line bearing his name. A faint crimson smudge absorbed into the fiber.

Ren yanked his hand back, shaking his thumb to dull the throbbing pain.

Elysia rolled her eyes, letting out a soft huff. "Don’t be such a baby. That’s standard procedure for binding contracts."

Ignoring his reaction, Evelyn took the treaty back, casually bit down on her own thumb without flinching, and pressed a dark red mark over her printed name.

She handed the finalized document back to her assistant. "Sylvara, file this in the royal archives and notify the high council. As of today, Ren’s territory is officially recognized as an allied district under the Starlight region."

Sylvara bowed respectfully, taking the parchment with a cold, composed expression. "Understood, Princess Evelyn."

Elysia folded her arms, looking at Ren with a curious glint in her eye. "So, what are you going to call this place? Have you thought of a name yet?"

"A name..." Ren stroked his chin, mulling over options.

He wanted something that represented a fresh start—a domain that would stand as a beacon of recovery for humanity on this unforgiving planet.

A distinct concept clicked in his mind.

"Lumiria," Ren said clearly.

"Lumiria?" Elysia repeated the word, tilting her head as if testing the weight of it.

Evelyn’s neutral expression shifted slightly. "Not bad. What’s the meaning behind it?"

"The land that brings the light," Ren stated, his gaze firm.

He meant it literally—a domain built to pierce through the suffocating darkness that had bound humanity on Lumiris for centuries under the constant threat of Aberrants and endless conflict.

A subtle, rare smile broke across Evelyn’s pale face, melting her usual cold demeanor. "I look forward to our partnership... Leader of Lumiria."

Ren gave a single, firm nod.

Taking on the mantle of a leader meant carrying an immense burden of responsibility. But standing at the helm was far better than wandering aimlessly through an unfamiliar, hostile world. He had been thrust into this reality without warning; using his system to build something meaningful and protect human life gave his existence concrete purpose.

Whatever lay ahead—whether apocalyptic threats, monstrous incursions, or hidden political enemies—he would face it head-on. He was going to survive in this world as Ren, step by step. Lumiris held countless unsolved mysteries, and his presence here was no accident. The system in his mind was a tool designed for a greater cause, even if the full picture remained shrouded in shadow for now.
