"Something terrible is coming," Evelyn whispered, her voice laced with bitter foreboding.

Deep down in her heart, she knew with absolute certainty that Velista and the Heretical Dark Faction were about to spring a nightmare upon them all.

Receiving her direct command, Sylvara offered a crisp, silent bow before turning sharply on her heel. Her cape snapped against the rising wind as she vanished down the pristine marble corridor to deploy the guard garrisons and fortify the central perimeter.

Left alone on the grand balcony, Evelyn remained unmoving, her slender fingers gripping the cool stone balustrade until her knuckles turned white.

Above, the sky deteriorated at a terrifying speed. The unnatural dark haze thickened, swallowing the final traces of sunlight and plunging the vast capital into a dismal, suffocating twilight.

From behind her, the heavy leather soles of high-end boots clicked rhythmically against the marble floorboards.

Verion strode onto the balcony, his golden hair catching the dim, unnatural light. He adjusted the pristine cuffs of his aristocratic uniform, stopping a few paces short of Evelyn’s side. His lips curled into a faint, condescending smirk as he glanced out toward the distant horizons.

"Princess Evelyn," Verion remarked, his voice smooth, casual, and dripping with thinly veiled arrogance. "I certainly didn’t expect to hear that you’ve been actively aiding that lowly porter in building up his personal domain."

Evelyn did not turn her head. Her sapphire eyes remained locked on the churning clouds above.

"And why shouldn’t I?" she replied, her tone flat and devoid of warmth.

Verion let out a dry, theatrical chuckle, leaning slightly against the balustrade. "Because it is an exercise in futility, Your Highness. A mere common porter—a glorified beast of burden—possesses neither the intellect nor the lineage required to govern a territory. Placing resources in his hands is an insult to the nobility."

Evelyn’s profile hardened. Slowly, she turned her head, her gaze piercing through Verion like an icy blade.

"If you came up to this tower merely to parade your petty spite, Verion, save your breath," Evelyn cut in sharply. "I have neither the time nor the patience to entertain your fragile ego."

Verion’s smile stiffened, his jaw twitching slightly at the blunt rejection. Yet, maintaining his composure, he adjusted his posture and gestured vaguely toward the ominous horizon.

"Rather than squandering royal authority on a peasant’s pipe dream, Your Highness ought to concern yourself with the sudden shift overhead," Verion countered smoothly, masking his irritation behind a mask of aristocratic concern.

Evelyn turned back toward the dark expanse, her voice dropping into a frigid, mocking whisper. "Then tell me, Lord Verion... do you honestly believe this sky looks normal to you?"

Verion raised an eyebrow, tilting his head back to inspect the dense, swirling stormfront. "What are you implying, Princess? It is merely a sudden, aggressive climatic shift. Atmospheric irregularities happen."

"Then you are even blind to the air you breathe," Evelyn shot back, her blue eyes narrowing.

Verion’s brow pinched in visible annoyance. "Princess Evelyn, you are vastly overcomplicating a routine weather event. Seasonal transitions in this region can be volatile. What truly baffles me—and the rest of the noble council—is why you continue to elevate an unqualified porter to a seat of regional leadership."

It was the same redundant, arrogant line of questioning she had been forced to endure from the court aristocrats for days. Evelyn felt a surge of cold fury rise in her chest, but she suppressed it with a slow, controlled exhale.

"Keep your mouth shut, Verion," Evelyn said, her voice dropping into a low, terrifying register. "I made my decision because I understand the strategic board far better than you ever will. And let me make one thing absolute clear—I am supporting Lumiria not because I doubt its leader, but because I refuse to watch another human settlement collapse like Zephrion did."

At the mention of Zephrion, Evelyn’s head tilted slightly downward, a shadow of unhealed regret casting over her features.

Years ago, the frontier village of Zephrion had thrived under the theoretical protection of the Starlight Kingdom. Yet, when a catastrophic Aberrant invasion breached the sector, the royal command—hamstrung by bureaucratic delay and aristocratic cowardice—had failed to deploy support in time. The village was razed to the ground, its populace slaughtered, and countless survivors dragged into the terrifying pocket dimensions of the Heretical Dark Faction. It was a failure of the royal bloodline—a failure she carried like a scar on her soul.

Verion remained silent for a fraction of a second, caught off guard by the raw gravity in her voice, before offering a dismissive wave of his hand. "Very well, Your Highness. If you wish to frame your charity as grand strategy, I shall refrain from pressing the matter."

Before Evelyn could reply, a sudden, horrifying crimson bleed erupted across the overhead canopy.

The dense, ink-black clouds did not part; rather, a sickly, incandescent blood-red light began to pulse from deep behind the storm layer, staining the overcast sky in shades of bruised crimson and liquid rust.

Verion’s casual demeanor shattered instantly. His eyes narrowed, his body going rigid as his gaze locked onto the sky.

Down in the vast capital, the silence was broken by a wave of gasps, screams, and hushed panic. Millions of citizens spilled out from white marble estates, grand plazas, and commercial avenues, their heads thrown back in collective terror. Thousands of trembling hands pointed toward the heavens, where the sky looked as though it were bleeding out over the world.

Atmospheric pressure plummeted to zero in an instant. A violent, unnatural tempest swept across the realm, roaring through the valleys and slamming into the towering white walls of the Starlight Kingdom. The sheer force of the gale tore ancient, deeply rooted oak trees straight out of the earth, launching them across the grand avenues like twigs. The wind carried a bone-chilling, suffocating draft that bit into the skin of every noble and commoner alike, instantly knotting their stomachs with an instinctual, primal dread.

The grand capital—a masterpiece of white stone, crystalline fountains, and soaring towers—was transformed into a stage of absolute, eerie suspense. The blood-red glow behind the black clouds pulsed rhythmically, like the heavy, malignant heartbeat of an invisible god.

Evelyn leaned heavily over the balcony rail, her knuckles turning bone-white as her heart hammered against her ribs.

"Verion... this isn’t weather," Evelyn said, her voice trembling with urgent horror. "Listen to me very carefully! Initiate a full civilian evacuation protocol immediately! Prepare the secondary transit routes and direct the non-combatants toward the Lumiria settlement!"

Verion recoiled as if struck, his face contorting in shock and disdain. "Princess Evelyn! Are you insane?! You want me—a high commander of the royal guard—to evacuate the citizens of the Starlight Kingdom to a dirt settlement run by a nameless porter?!"

"Verion!" Evelyn roared, turning on him with a fury that rattled the stone beneath their feet. "Do it now before every soul in this city is annihilated!"

Verion opened his mouth to object, but Evelyn stepped directly into his space, her sapphire eyes glowing with lethal, icy mana.

"If you hesitate for one single second, or if you dare abandon your post," Evelyn whispered, her voice dripping with venomous absolute authority, "I swear on the royal lineage that I will strip your family of every title, seize your estates, and place every living member of your bloodline on the kingdom’s execution blacklist. You will die in a dungeon, Verion. Do you understand me?"

The absolute coldness in her eyes left no room for doubt. Verion’s breath hitched, his face draining of all color as horror washed over him. The realization that the princess was entirely prepared to execute her threat crushed his pride instantly.

Verion bowed his head frantically, his body trembling. "I—I understand, Your Highness! I shall execute your orders at once! Forgive my insolence!"

Without waiting another second, Verion spun around and sprinted off the balcony, his frantic footfalls echoing wildly down the empty stone corridors.

Evelyn turned back to the dark, red-stained sky, her teeth grinding together as cold sweat trickled down her neck. She picked up the hem of her gown and broke into a fast stride toward the grand council chamber.

She stormed through the towering gilded doors of the inner keep, bursting into the central hall where dozens of high-ranking ministers, regional governors, and elite military officials were gathered around a massive tactical map table.

The hall fell dead silent as the princess entered.

"Your Highness, what is the meaning of this sudden sky phenomenon?" a senior minister asked, stepping forward with a cautious, slightly skeptical smile. "Surely the royal guard can manage a minor weather disturbance without troubling the high council—"

"Silence!" Evelyn’s voice shattered the hall like a thunderclap.

She marched to the head of the long marble table, slamming her palms onto the surface. "Every single official in this room will move to your designated command posts immediately! Issue a capital-wide red alert! Force the regional lords to open all emergency shelters and mobilize every available transport unit to move the populace!"

The ministers exchanged uneasy, doubtful glances.

"Princess, with all due respect," another noble interjected, clearing his throat, "evacuating the capital based on an unusual cloud formation seems entirely premature and would cause unnecessary panic among the merchant guilds—"

"Look out the damn window!" Evelyn screamed, pointing a shaking finger toward the stained glass apertures lining the upper walls.

The nobles turned their heads. Through the tinted glass, the blood-red light behind the clouds flared with blinding intensity, casting long, demonic shadows across the polished floors of the council chamber. The stone walls began to vibrate, a low, subsonic rumble shaking the grand chandeliers hanging overhead.

Panic instantly gripped the room. The ministers’ faces turned ash-white as their skepticism evaporated into blind terror.

"You are servants of the people!" Evelyn barked, her voice echoing with commanding authority over the rising rumbles. "Any official found fleeing the city for their own safety while leaving civilians behind will be executed on the spot for high treason! Clear the streets! Guide the people! Move!"

The council hall erupted into utter chaos as ministers, lords, and officers scrambled over one another, sprinting toward the exits in a desperate rush to execute her commands.

Evelyn did not linger. She ran out of the council chambers, taking the grand spiraling staircase three steps at a time until she burst through the front gates of the keep, stepping directly onto the pristine manicured lawns of the royal gardens.

She skidded to a halt near the base of the Merlin Grace statue, her chest heaving as she threw her head back toward the sky.

Her eyes dilated in absolute terror. Her jaw slackened, and the words froze in her throat.

High above the capital, the dense black clouds tore open like a festering wound.

A colossal, crimson meteor—a monstrous mass of jagged, abyssal rock burning with violent red hellfire, easily the size of the entire Starlight Kingdom itself—pierced through the upper atmosphere. It descended with agonizing, cinematic slowness, a towering mountain of destruction locked on a direct collision course with the heart of the realm.

The atmosphere ignited. The air pressure alone crushed the tops of the outer watchtowers, and a wave of raw, suffocating heat descended, instantly scorching the royal gardens and evaporating the clear water inside the marble fountains.

Below, millions of citizens lost their minds.

An apocalyptic panic erupted across the vast city avenues. Civilians screamed in visceral horror, abandoning their belongings, trampling over one another, and smashing through storefronts in a blind, desperate bid to escape the inevitable. Parents screamed for lost children, guards abandoned their posts, and crowds collided in violent, stampeding bottlenecks at every major intersection. The grand, dignified capital turned into a horrific slaughterhouse of pure chaos, where self-preservation crushed every semblance of humanity.

Evelyn’s body shook uncontrollably, her hands trembling violently at her sides.

Looking up at that colossal red core descending through the dark, her mind flashed back to the ancient texts preserved in the royal archives—the forbidden chronicles of the Primordial Cataclysm. Centuries ago, a massive purple meteor had split the heavens, crashing into the ancient world and unleashing the very first wave of Aberrant monsters, bringing human civilization to the brink of absolute extinction.

’It’s happening again...’ Evelyn thought, her heart freezing in her chest. ’The nightmare that started it all... it’s repeating right before our eyes...’

The red meteor descended into the low atmosphere, its radiant heat igniting the timber roofs of the outer residential districts before impact even occurred.

BOOM!

The monstrous burning rock slammed directly into the kingdom’s grand defensive barrier—the massive, translucent blue magic dome that spanned the entire horizon.

For a terrifying second, the barrier held. Violent shocks of pale blue mana flared across the sky, resisting the kinetic force of the cosmic projectile. But the heat and weight of the dark meteor were absolute. Microscopic fractures rippled across the blue energy layer, spreading rapidly like spiderwebs across a sheet of glass.

CRACK!

With a deafening, metallic shatter that echoed across the continent, the grand defensive barrier exploded into billions of falling blue shards, dissolving into useless mana dust.

Unchecked and merciless, the giant red meteor plunged straight into the center of the capital.

BOOMM

An catastrophic, earth-shattering explosion tore through the fabric of the world.

The moment of impact created a blinding, apocalyptic flash of light that incinerated everything within a three-mile radius instantly. A towering ring of compressed, superheated air and nuclear-level kinetic shockwaves rolled outward in a violent, expanding circle, ripping through the city with zero mercy.

Entire avenues of grand white marble architecture were obliterated in milliseconds. Thousands of residential homes, commercial plazas, and historic estates were pulverized into fine ash, rolled up by a massive wall of churning earth and boiling flame. The superheated shockwave engulfed tens of thousands of fleeing citizens instantly, vaporizing flesh and bone before a single scream could escape their lips.

The ground buckled like liquid. Violent seismic shocks tore open massive chasms across the capital, shattering the grand foundation stones of the city.

The pressure wave reached the high outer ramparts—the impenetrable, ancient stone walls that had protected the Starlight Kingdom for centuries. The massive stone fortifications groaned under the kinetic impact before collapsing inward like cardboard, crushing entire blocks of houses beneath thousands of tons of falling masonry. Large sections of the outer wall were blown completely outward, leaving the kingdom’s perimeter exposed, shattered, and utterly ruined.

At the royal keep, situated miles away on high ground, the shockwave slammed into the grand palace. Heavy stained-glass windows shattered into millions of flying sharp fragments, while the tall white spires cracked at their bases and collapsed into the courtyards below. Ancient trees were uprooted and flung across the sky, while the shockwave whipped Evelyn’s off-shoulder gown wildly around her, nearly tearing her off her feet as the scorching, dust-laden wind roared past her face.

The glorious, impenetrable capital of humanity had been reduced to a burning, ash-choked crater in a single, merciless instant.

Humanity has finally recalled the nightmare that bound them centuries ago. The ancient terror, long forgotten beneath the illusion of peace, now stands resurrected at their very doorstep.

Evelyn pushed herself up from the shaking marble ground, her eyes wide, glassy, and filled with horror as she looked past the burning ruins of her kingdom.

Her breath caught in her throat. Her entire body froze solid.

Out beyond the shattered perimeter walls—spanning the darkened, ash-covered plains surrounding the broken capital—an infinite sea of terrifying silhouettes emerged from the gloom.

An overwhelming, massive legion of Grade-A and Grade-B Aberrant monsters had encircled the entire kingdom.

Countless pairs of glowing, blood-red eyes illuminated the dark horizon like an endless sea of crimson embers. Rows upon rows of razor-sharp, multi-layered fangs dripped with acidic saliva, while twisted, monstrous appendages scraped against the scorched earth. Towering mammalian beasts, writhing insectoid abominations, and hulking armored monstrosities stood packed shoulder-to-shoulder in tight, military-like formations.

There were hundreds of thousands of them—a relentless, carnivorous army that sealed off every escape route from the fallen city.

They did not rush in blindly. They stood in silent, horrifying discipline, surrounding the ruins of the Starlight Kingdom like a cage of flesh and iron, waiting for the signal to step forward and devour the survivors trapped within the burning rubble.

Humanity was no longer in a kingdom. They were caged birds waiting for the butcher’s blade.
