Chapter 1001: Spring Twilight Ball

  • Next Chapter

Yukihime High School, Elffire City.

7:00 PM, Saturday, May 29th.

The doors of the ceremonial gymnasium officially swung open, signaling the start of the Spring Twilight Ball. Students immediately began flooding into the moonlit venue. Because the event was open to the entire student body, first-, second-, and third-year students all arrived in high spirits. Even the typically reclusive third-years, who spent most of their time buried in textbooks studying for the college exams, had left their desks to attend.

As a century-old tradition at Yukihime High School, this specific night held massive emotional weight for the hundreds of teenagers who walked its halls.

The entrance blossomed into a dazzling runway of cultural fashion traditional to the Sakura Abode Country. Hundreds of students arrived in breathtaking formal attire, split between the two founding bloodlines of the nation. Some students wore impeccably tailored Pendragon suits and elegant evening gowns, while others donned striking, traditional Yamato silk kimonos. Reflecting the modern harmony of the country, a few creative students even wore stunning fusion outfits, seamlessly blending structural suit jackets with flowing kimono fabrics.

Standing in a flawless line near the main entrance, the student council greeted every arriving guest with bright smiles. It was here that they officially received the dozen exchange students arriving from Galia on the Vytral Continent. Though the visiting delegation was small, the girls made sure to display the absolute pinnacle of Sakurean hospitality, ensuring their international guests felt honored and welcomed the exact moment they stepped into the moonlit venue.

Carolla effortlessly led the reception by greeting the delegation in fluent Gaulish. Coming from a prominent diplomat family, she had grown up in an international household where her parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles routinely conversed in several foreign tongues. This immersive environment made it easy for her to absorb multiple languages from childhood, revealing her extraordinary natural linguistic talent.

In the Sakura Abode Country, being bilingual was the baseline; every citizen was already fluent in both English and Yamatese. For Carolla to be considered exceptionally talented in this society meant she possessed a truly profound gift—she spoke five additional languages outside of the two national tongues.

Fortunately for the visiting delegation, one of those five mastered languages was Gaulish, allowing her to break the ice instantly.

As the dozen Galian exchange students stepped through the floral archway, looking slightly stiff and nervous in their formal attire, Carolla stepped forward with a graceful bow and a warm smile.

"Welcome to Yukihime High School," Carolla said, her voice shifting into flawless, fluid Gaulish with a perfect high-society accent. "We are deeply honored to have you join us for our Spring Twilight Ball tonight. Please, let us know if there is anything we can do to make your evening magical."

The Galian students froze, their eyes widening in surprise. For a moment, the silence of the entrance was broken only by the ambient music. Then, a collective wave of bright, joyful smiles erupted across the faces of the foreign delegation.

"Incredible!" the lead Galian student, a tall youth in a tailored navy blazer, happily replied in his native Gaulish, his posture instantly relaxing. "We never expected to hear our mother tongue spoken so beautifully all the way across the ocean! Your hospitality is truly magnificent, Wembley-san."

The rest of the exchange students nodded eagerly, murmuring words of deep appreciation in Gaulish, clearly touched by the thoughtful gesture. However, once the initial wave of pleasant surprise settled, the lead student chuckled softly and seamlessly switched his language.

"But, to be entirely honest," he continued in near-perfect, respectful Yamatese, bowed politely toward the rest of the council, "we have all been studying your beautiful language for the past three years in preparation for this trip. We can converse in Yamatese quite well!"

Vivian and Aurora exchanged a delighted look, while Hanako let out a small, amazed gasp.

"That is wonderful!" Vivian praised warmly, stepping forward to join Carolla. "Your Yamatese is excellent. It honors us deeply that you put so much effort into learning our culture."

One by one, the Galian students bowed gracefully, expressing their formal thanks to the entire student council for such a spectacular, high-effort reception. The linguistic bridge Carolla had built completely shattered any remaining awkwardness, turning the formal arrival into a genuinely warm, friendly encounter before they were guided into the moonlit ballroom.

The girls briefly introduced the layout of the venue to the exchange students, ensuring they knew where to find everything before leaving them to immerse themselves in the festivities. Following the arrival of the international delegation, the remaining flood of Yukihime High Schoolers poured into the gymnasium. With the venue officially packed to capacity, the celebration could finally begin.

Standing near the main stage, Aurora caught the eye of the DJ and gave a sharp, confident nod. The soft background instrumentals instantly faded, replaced by the rhythmic, infectious pulse of a popular upbeat pop song that sent a wave of energy through the crowd. Synchronizing her movements, Umaru tapped her tablet, signaling the kitchen staff to begin circulating the freshly prepared appetizers. Simultaneously, Vivian alerted the drink bar technicians to prepare for the massive influx of student orders.

The baseline lights dimmed, the static moonbeams sharpened against the cascading cherry blossoms, and the Spring Twilight Ball officially roared to life.

The moment the baseline dropped and the crowd erupted, a unison ding echoed through the earpieces of all six student council members.

Umaru checked her tablet, her face lighting up with a radiant smile. "Every single item on the master checklist is officially green! Girls, we are completely, legally, and officially off the clock!"

"Finally!" Carolla gasped, completely dropping her rigid, high-society diplomat posture. She kicked off her high-heeled shoes right there by the entrance pillars, tucking them under a floral arrangement. "If I had to speak one more syllable of high-class syntax, my brain was going to short-circuit. Let’s find those fried shrimp skewers before the first-years strip the platters bare!"

Before anyone could answer, Hanako linked her arm with Vivian’s, her eyes flashing with a playful, idol-like determination. "President, look! The lighting at the chocolate fountain is hitting the wisteria at a perfect forty-five-degree angle. We need to take a few aesthetic photos before the floor gets crowded. Come along!"

"Oh, absolutely! Step aside, everyone, presidential duties are over!" Vivian laughed, completely shedding her stiff, stoic persona. She clutched her dress skirt and matched Hanako’s enthusiastic energy stride for stride, practically skipping toward the fountain while checking her reflection in the polished silver backing of a nearby balloon rig.

Meanwhile, Brenda walked over to the drink bar, her posture still straight and dignified, though a manic glint shone in her eyes. She offered a terrifyingly intense smile to the student bartender. "May I please have a sparkling blue-raspberry lemonade? Extra ice. Make it strong. It has been a long morning of enforcing the peace."

"Right away, Blackburn-san!" the bartender squeaked, throwing ice cubes into a glass with trembling hands.

Aurora stood near the edge of the dance floor, her silver-lavender dress shimmering beautifully under the static celestial blue moonbeams. Far from her usual calm, she was bouncing on the balls of her feet, her purple eyes wide with hyperactive energy.

"Hey, Aurora!" Umaru called out, balancing a couple of neatly arranged small plates piled dangerously high with mini-lasagnas and cinnamon crumble cakes. "Don’t just stand there by yourself! Come enjoy the appetizers with us before the rush begins!"

Aurora had asked her brother to give the recipe to the catering service as she wanted the students to taste the amazing dish that her brother invented.

"Oh, I am not missing the food!" Aurora cheered, completely tossing out her calm vice-presidential composure. She rushed over, her silver hair flying behind her as she successfully intercepted a stray strawberry skewer from rolling off Umaru’s towering plates with the reflexes of an elite athlete. "Hand over a lasagna platter, Yuki! We worked too hard to let these first-years beat us to the buffet!"

Just as Aurora happily took her plate, she turned around and noticed three of the foreign exchange students from the Vytral Continent standing a few feet away, whispering intensely while staring straight at her, Vivian, and Hanako.
