Chapter 290: Chapter 274: Strict Clan Law

BANG—!

With a deafening crash, Jiang Xu kicked the door open.

Inside, two men who were busy ransacking the place for valuables heard the noise and jumped like startled rabbits. A cold sweat instantly broke out on their backs, and with their hearts pounding, they whirled around in terror to stare nervously at the doorway.

But when their eyes fell on Jiang Xu standing outside the door, the looks of shock and guilt on their faces suddenly vanished.

In its place was a look mixed with disdain and mockery.

One of them, a tall and skinny man, spoke first.

He had a pointy, weaselly face, and his cunning eyes glinted with malice. A cold sneer curled his lips as he taunted in a sharp voice:

"Well, well, if it isn’t our little young master, the Seed of Evil. What’s the matter? Didn’t go report to King Yama with your dead parents?"

Jiang Xu stepped over the threshold and into the room. His face was cold, his gaze like a torch as he stared at the two men who were still shamelessly rummaging for valuables, not saying a word.

However, in their eyes, his silence was a sign of weakness.

They mistakenly thought Jiang Xu was just like the original Liang Fan—a pushover they could walk all over—and so they grew even more arrogant.

The skinny man shot Jiang Xu a smug glance as he spoke, his laugh shrill and grating, like nails on a chalkboard, piercing the eardrums:

"Heh, little brother, the kid served himself up on a silver platter. I bet he’s carrying all the valuables on him. Now that he’s back, it’s the perfect chance to give him a good interrogation."

The short, stocky man with the full beard beside him, his voice deep and heavy, echoed the skinny man, his thick words reverberating through the room:

"Heh heh, you’re right. If this kid knows what’s good for him, he’ll hand over the family treasures as a tribute. If we’re in a good mood, maybe we’ll spare him."

The stocky man’s eyes widened as he shot Jiang Xu a vicious warning:

"Kid, if you don’t play along, don’t blame me for getting rough!"

Faced with their arrogant provocations, Jiang Xu remained unmoved, though his gaze grew even colder.

The skinny man and the stocky man were both at the Qi Cultivation Middle Stage, something mentioned in Liang Fan’s memories.

The pair had always bullied Liang Fan, but they never went too far because they feared Mother Liang’s Cultivation.

Mother Liang had always been in a very poor position within the family, and on top of that, her body had always been frail.

As a result, Liang Fan never dared to ask Mother Liang to intervene, and he silently endured the pair’s daily bullying.

But now, with Mother Liang barely in her grave, these two were already preparing to get rough with Liang Fan.

"Hey, what’s with the silence? Cat got your tongue?!"

"Let me tell you, that act won’t work on us. Hand over the treasures right now!"

Jiang Xu swept his gaze over the two rampant thieves one more time. His eyes were like icicles in a north wind, so cold and sharp that the two men couldn’t help but shiver.

But when they saw Jiang Xu turn and leave in silence, they mistook his actions for fear, thinking he was trying to escape.

Seeing this, the skinny man immediately barked:

"Trying to run? Get back here!"

He started to give chase, and the stocky man with the beard followed close behind, yelling:

"Boss, after him!"

The two of them scrambled out of the house, but the area outside was empty. Aside from the occasional cold wind and a few drifting leaves, there was no sign of Jiang Xu.

They looked left and right, but all they saw was the quiet night and the dim, yellow lights. It was as if Jiang Xu had evaporated, vanishing without a trace.

"Huh? Where’d he go? He vanished in the blink of an eye!"

The skinny man and the bearded man stared at each other, their faces filled with shock and frustration.

Just as they were muttering curses, full of suspicion, a cold and calm voice suddenly sounded from behind them, chilling them to the bone like a winter night’s wind.

"Run? You think I was trying to run? I was simply unwilling to let your filthy blood stain the room where my mother once lived and tarnish my memory of her."

Jiang Xu’s voice seemed to come from the void itself, startling them.

When they turned around, they were shocked to find that Jiang Xu had silently appeared behind them at some point.

He was tightly gripping a small knife that glinted with a cold light, its blade as clear and sharp as autumn water.

With the sound of a blade slicing through the air, two flashes of cold light streaked through the night, as if time itself had frozen in that instant.

Before the skinny man and the bearded man could even react, they both felt a sharp pain course through their bodies. A moment later, both of their arms, severed at the elbow, fell limply to the ground.

In that moment, they didn’t yet feel the intense pain, only a sense that their bodies had become much lighter.

But then blood gushed out like a spring, soaking the ground.

The acrid smell of blood filled the air, and only then did realization dawn on them, followed by an indescribable, agonizing pain.

One after another, they let out bloodcurdling screams and collapsed to their knees in agony.

"AAAAHH—! My arms are gone! My arms!"

The skinny man’s eyes bulged as he stared at the two severed arms on the ground, his voice contorting in pain.

"Boss! Ah! My arms are gone too!"

The stocky man with the beard was equally horrified to find his own arms detached from his body, and he joined the skinny man in his agonized wails.

Although Qi Cultivation Cultivators had taken their first steps into the world of Cultivation, they still had many limitations compared to true experts.

For example, once the arms of these two were severed, they could never be regrown unless a Cultivator at Foundation Establishment or a higher level of Cultivation intervened with advanced Magic.
