I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 1278: National Defender Badge, Shifting Attention (5k)

Wen Yan laid down the unconscious Er Jingong and gave him a blessing of Yang Energy.

Traversing the Nether Path with a living body while unconscious is harmful; fortunately, Wen Yan moved quickly. Without Wen Yan radiating Yang Energy, Er Jingong would only last about twenty minutes in his unconscious state before meeting his end, even without interference from the ghostly beings there.

Wen Yan first greeted Fourth Great-uncle Master, who had specifically come to open the altar. He seemed a bit tired, likely having been here for quite some time.

“Sorry for causing you to personally make the trip, sir.”

Beside him, Brother Dao’s voice was somewhat hoarse. Wen Yan also gave him a blessing of Yang Energy, expressing thanks.

“Thanks, Brother Dao.”

Brother Dao puffed up his chest and nodded, accepting the gesture.

Just as Wen Yan finished giving thanks, a Little Zombie appeared in his arms, holding onto his neck and whimpering incessantly.

Wen Yan patted the Little Zombie’s head and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

“Good boy, thank you.”

Within a puzzle he had there, Wen Yan saw a young version of the Little Zombie and immediately recognized him.

Probably, his ability to enter the Ancient Dream world related to his aunt was connected to the Little Zombie.

Otherwise, with just limited connections, it’d be hard for him to enter such a place of experiences he hadn’t gone through.

Wen Yan stepped forward, looking at his foolish son still gazing towards the inside of the room, and gave his son’s little behind a pat.

“You little turtle egg, didn’t see your dad’s back, huh? If your dad never comes back, you’d have a hard time even eating crap.”

His foolish son glanced around, drooling while eagerly extending his arms for a hug.

Wen Yan rolled his eyes and picked up his son with one hand, then watched as his son reached up, trying to wrap his arms around his head, giving him a slobbery kiss.

In that instant, Wen Yan felt something was peeled off his face.

It was then he remembered previous gifts from the ghosts still lingered on his face.

Wen Yan put his foolish son down and patted his little behind.

“Hey, I figured, why would you randomly ask for a hug today.”

His foolish son giggled nonsensically, uttering gibberish, not even caring about being patted on his little behind.

Seeing his son like this, Wen Yan shook his head, letting it go. At such a young age, besides eating, what else could he remember?

“Not hurt, right?” Fourth Great-uncle Master inspected Wen Yan, asking.

“Not hurt, just exhausted from running all the time.”

“Then rest up first.”

“No, someone intends to use the opportunity to take me down inside; I dare not sleep now, afraid of encountering another problem upon waking.”

Fourth Great-uncle Master took out a black wooden pendant, handing it to Wen Yan.

“Wear this around your neck.”

“What is this?”

“It’s actually for suppression purposes, quite suited for you. Wearing it might make it harder for you to fall into Ancient Dream.”

Then, Fourth Great-uncle Master took out a small box and gave it to Wen Yan.

“This is from the General Director, meant for you temporarily for your investigation. Before you could receive it, you fell right into it.”

Wen Yan opened the small box, revealing a slightly bespeckled badge with even some bloodstains.

“They said this badge is borrowed; don’t lose it. It’s a military badge awarded to a veteran who set a record for enemy kills in early battles during the founding of the nation. Such an item, even Scorching Sun Department doesn’t qualify to give away. The General Director personally inquired, confirming who wanted to borrow it. Given the current event is of the highest priority, they agreed to loan it to you for protection.”

Wen Yan gazed at the badge, momentarily distracted, noticing the bloodstains vanished.

“National Defender Badge/God of Slaughter Badge.”

“A badge forged with the blood and lives of enemies on the battlefield. Once acknowledged, it provides temporary buff bonuses. The effects vary with conditions and holder status. Up to thirteen effects can be held simultaneously. Note: Avoid wearing it unless extremely necessary.”

At the touch of the badge, new prompts appeared.

“Temporary buff obtained: Defend the Nation.”

“When facing non-Shen Zhou’s people, you gain 25% immunity bypass, 25% critical strike chance, and 25% dodge chance.”

“Note 1: Critical strikes deal an additional 100% (X) damage.”

“Note 2: When dodging single damage instances, that damage becomes immune (More dodge chance can introduce diminishing effects).”

Wen Yan’s expression slightly shifted, no wonder the General Director mentioned providing him with something; it sure wasn’t a typical assignment tool.

Who would have thought the General Director, so casually spoken, would offer something so outrageous.

The badge represented a real powerhouse who had eliminated hundreds of enemies on the battlefield to earn such recognition.

Just hearing “kill record” negated any possibility of mass production.

The instant he touched it, a buff unfolded; up to thirteen buffs. Who knows what the trigger conditions are.

He secured the box close by, thinking even with just this one trigger, it suffices.

Any reminder containing brackets and a multiplication symbol within is already absurd.

No fixed damage—calculated purely proportional—means the stronger one is, the greater the benefits.

But what remains unknown is the upper limit of this buff.

If this badge goes to Tuoba Martial God, who can trigger this buff, Wen Yan dare not imagine Tuoba Martial God’s power doubled, how it’d look.
