I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s
Chapter 1267 - 1266: Getting a Ride
Chapter 1267: Chapter 1266: Getting a Ride
Luo Yirui counted to three, and together, an adult and two children used all their strength, pressing their whole bodies against it, finally lifting the donkey cart upward.
Fu Xuan Ge and Jing Yuansi had already lifted the wooden boards and waited on one side. Seeing this, they both exerted effort, pushing one end of the wooden boards under the cart from beneath the wheel.
With something to support it, the wheel naturally wouldn’t sink down again, but most of the cart’s weight was still pressing on one wheel; one wooden board couldn’t hold it. Moreover, one wooden board couldn’t enable the cart to go up.
"Uncle, don’t ease up, or the board will break," Luo Yirui shouted laboriously.
The man initially felt he couldn’t hold on, but after hearing this, he exerted more force, pressing down again.
"Keep pushing the boards forward; after they’re all in, someone come out and drive the cart!" Luo Yirui shouted.
Fu Xuan Ge and Jing Yuansi were quick. The pit wasn’t very wide, so three wooden boards fit perfectly. Evidently, Luo Yirui had calculated it well. After placing the boards, Fu Xuan Ge climbed up the dirt slope, sat on the donkey cart, and lightly swung the small crop by his side.
"Don’t hit too hard; I only have this one donkey!" the man shouted. Hitting his own donkey was fine, but having someone else do it made his heart ache.
Fu Xuan Ge didn’t use too much force when swinging the whip — not because he was afraid of injuring the donkey, but for fear of startling it, which would cause problems if it ran off.
The donkey stepped forward, and the cart followed, moving along. One side of the cart’s wheel was pressing on the boards, unsteadily; if not for the man and Luo Yirui supporting one end of the wood, the boards wouldn’t hold.
Seeing the donkey cart reach the edge of the pit, just one step away from coming up, it encountered a bump. The boards were sloped and couldn’t possibly be higher than the dirt slope; with the cart loaded, getting over the bump required great effort.
"Press harder!" Luo Yirui shouted.
The man shifted his body, pressing down harder once more. As the weight on the wheel lightened, it immediately went up.
Once the donkey cart was back on the road, the man and Luo Yirui got off.
"Kid, you’ve got the smarts; this method works really well!" the man beamed with joy, relieved to finally be moving. He didn’t want to spend the night there.
Luo Yirui jumped onto the donkey cart, pulling Little Fatty and Jing Yuansi up, and asked, "Why didn’t you unload the cart of wooden boards earlier? Maybe you could lift it by yourself."
The man blinked his eyes, "Who would’ve thought we’d be stuck this long? I figured there’d be a passing cart to call for help, but it turned out to be a two-hour wait, besides how long loading and unloading this cart of boards takes."
He had been harboring a bit of wishful thinking, hoping for a cart to pass by.
Finally on the cart, Luo Yirui and the other three were somewhat relieved. The man handed them a thick quilt he usually kept on the cart; although worn, it was good for covering the legs and didn’t feel cold when driving.
Now dressed in a green coat, it served perfectly for these four kids.
The man spent quite some time lecturing them along the way. The four of them huddled close, under the quilt, and gradually fell asleep.
Luckily, all four were in pretty good shape, having grown up drinking talismanic water. Their physical condition wasn’t like ordinary kids, otherwise, in such cold weather, a single quilt wouldn’t have sufficed, and they could easily have gotten sick.
Rocking back and forth, when the stars in the sky were still shining brightly, they arrived at the county town. Though, by then, it was already past three in the morning.
