Moonlight spilled through the tall glass windows of Philia’s private chambers, falling across the heavy velvet draperies of the master bed. The room was quiet and still, while the chill of autumn lingered beyond the windows.

Yerel lay resting on his side, his broad chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm. He had shed his heavy royal doublet and leather belt hours ago, wearing only a loose linen sleep tunic that hung open at his throat.

Beside him, Philia moved with careful stillness. Sitting up slightly against the plush silk pillows, he pulled the heavy wool quilt over his lap, brushing his hair out of his eyes. His body still felt heavy and sore from the afternoon, they had spent nearly two hours in Yerel’s private study earlier, swept up in a sudden, breathless storm of desperate, quiet intimacy against the locked doors before returning to administrative duties.

Philia let out a quiet breath, shifting his position slightly. He reached out, gently taking Yerel’s large, warm hand and guiding the prince’s arm over his waist, tucking Yerel’s hand around his front.

"Stay like this," Philia whispered softly, his voice carrying a delicate, gravelly warmth in the quiet room.

"Mmm?" Yerel grunted softly, his dark eyes half-lidded with fatigue as he pulled Philia back against his chest.

Yerel instinctually began to shift closer to drape his chest over Philia’s back, but Philia subtly shifted his knees, keeping a small, precise gap between them. He carefully guided Yerel’s arm so the prince’s heavy forearm rested squarely across his stomach, ensuring Yerel’s touch stayed far away from the bandaged wound hidden beneath the tender skin near his chest.

Yerel buried his face into the warm nook of Philia’s neck, taking a deep, long breath of the soft lavender scent lingering on Philia’s skin.

"You’re quiet tonight," Yerel murmured, his deep voice rumbling softly against Philia’s collarbone. "Still thinking about the orpahange?"

Philia let his head rest back against Yerel’s shoulder, his fingers lightly tracing the knuckles of Yerel’s hand resting on his stomach. "A little."

His fingers continued their slow, absent movement over Yerel’s hand. "I suppose I didn’t realize how little time I’ve actually spent with them lately. There always seems to be something happening, and before I know it, the day is already over."

He let out a quiet sigh, his expression softening.

"I miss them already." A faint smile touched his lips. "It’s rather silly, isn’t it? I only just saw them, but somehow it already feels like too long."

"Already?" he murmured. "At this rate, I suppose I should be worried."

Philia lifted his head slightly. "Worried about what?"

"That you will miss them so terribly that you decide to abandon me and go back to them tomorrow."

Philia stared at him for a moment before letting out a soft laugh. "You make it sound as though I am some fickle creature who can simply be lured away."

"I have seen how easily you worry over them," Yerel replied, his fingers curling gently around Philia’s hand. "Perhaps I should be jealous."

"Jealous?" Philia repeated, amused. "Of my own family?"

"Perhaps."

Philia’s smile widened. "Then you have nothing to fear."

Yerel raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"

"Mm." Philia settled back against him, comfortably resting his head on Yerel’s shoulder again. "I can miss them and still want to stay right here."

Yerel let out a low, breathless chuckle that vibrated softly against Philia’s back. His mood softened, the cold, calculating weight of the Crown Prince fading away into the quiet intimacy of the darkened bed.

Yerel shifted slightly, his hand sliding slowly upward from Philia’s stomach, his broad palm tracing the soft linen of Philia’s shirt, moving toward his ribs and chest. His fingers pressed gently against the fabric, seeking to pull Philia closer, his lips moving down toward the curve of Philia’s shoulder with growing warmth.

Philia froze for a fraction of a second, his heart giving a sharp, panicked flutter against his ribs.

Before Yerel’s fingers could reach the tender edge of his hidden bandage or feel the irregular, racing pulse beneath his skin, Philia reached down quickly, catching Yerel’s wrist in his slender grip and halting the movement in its tracks.

Yerel paused, his lips resting against Philia’s skin, feeling the sudden tension in Philia’s grip.

"Your Highness..." Philia murmured, turning his head slightly, his voice dropping into a soft, breathless whisper. "I’m... I’m sorry. I’m really quite exhausted tonight."

Yerel went still. For a brief second, he didn’t move, his hand resting motionless under Philia’s gentle hold. Then, realizing what he was doing, Yerel let out a long, quiet breath and immediately relaxed his grip, sliding his hand back down to rest comfortably over Philia’s waist.

"Ah," Yerel said softly, a note of genuine guilt lacing his deep voice. He lifted his head slightly, looking down at the pale side of Philia’s face in the faint light. "Forgive me, Philia. I wasn’t thinking. You’ve had a long journey back from the outer territory, and I kept you in my study for hours earlier."

Philia turned his face into the pillow, offering a faint, reassuring smile over his shoulder. "You don’t need to apologize, Your Highness. I am just... my body feels very heavy tonight."

Yerel leaned down and pressed a tender kiss upon the crown of Philia’s head before drawing the heavy wool blanket higher over their shoulders, wrapping Philia warmly within its folds.

"Go to sleep, then," Yerel whispered gently, wrapping his strong arm securely around Philia’s waist and pulling him tight against his front, keeping his touch firm, warm, and entirely protective. "I’ll be right here."

Philia closed his eyes, resting both hands over Yerel’s large hand where it lay securely across his stomach. He let out a long, quiet sigh, allowing himself to sink more fully into the warmth behind him.

For a while, he said nothing.

The steady beat of Yerel’s heart reached him through his back, slow and reassuring beneath the warmth of his body. There was something strangely comforting about it. With everything that had happened lately, with secrets still hidden, dangers drawing ever closer, and so many things beyond his understanding, Philia had almost forgotten what it felt like to simply rest without worrying about what might come next.

"Stay like this for a while," Philia whispered.

Yerel’s arm tightened slightly around him.

"I will."
