I Became the Villain Alpha's Omega (BL)
Chapter 526: The Imperial Morning
The high, vaulted ceilings of the imperial glass dining pavilion in the palace let in a wide, sweeping wash of golden morning sunlight. It illuminated the polished white marble floor, the delicate vines climbing up the iron pillars, and an elaborate, sprawling spread of silver dishware. Outside the tall, arched windows, the palace gardens stretched across meticulously manicured terraces filled with beds of white roses and trimmed boxwood hedges, looking entirely tranquil and pristine under the clear, crisp autumn sky.
Seated as distinguished guests at the long table were Gillian and Iryna, representing the royal house of Solaric during their extended diplomatic stay at the Auzelian court. Across from them sat King Alderon of Auzelian, his distinguished features calm and composed as he set his linen napkin down beside his porcelain teacup. To his right, Yerel sat impeccably groomed, his usual sharp, military posture softened noticeably as he turned his dark, attentive gaze toward the young man seated right beside him.
Philia sat with his back straight, his dark hair neatly tied back from his face, dressed in a simple yet impeccably tailored light-blue tunic that suited his gentle, unassuming demeanor.
King Alderon cleared his throat softly, his deep, resonant voice breaking the quiet, pleasant clink of silverware against china.
"Philia, my boy," the King spoke, his tone laced with genuine, fatherly concern. "How are you feeling this morning? Are you feeling completely recovered from your journey?"
Philia paused mid-bite, setting his silver fork down onto his fine porcelain plate before looking up at the King with a soft, reassuring smile that immediately eased the tension in the room.
"There is truly nothing to worry about, Your Majesty," Philia replied, his voice light, melodious, and carrying a quiet warmth that always seemed to ground the atmosphere around him. "It was merely lingering fatigue from the long carriage journey back to the capital. I assure you, after a full, uninterrupted night of rest in my own chambers, I feel completely restored."
"You must make sure not to push yourself too hard," Yerel added softly from beside him, his voice dropping an octave as he reached out beneath the edge of the tablecloth. Yerel’s broad, warm hand gently rested over Philia’s knuckles, his thumb stroking soothingly against the soft skin of his hand. His dark eyes softened into an expression reserved solely for his fiancé. "The schedule is notoriously relentless, Philia. If you ever feel exhausted, you have every right to step back and rest. No one will blame you."
Philia turned his head, looking over at Yerel with an expression of profound affection, his eyes twinkling brightly as he gave Yerel’s hand a quiet, grounding squeeze in return. "I know, Your Highness. But I assure you, I am perfectly well."
Across the table, Gillian took a slow, measured sip of his dark coffee, his sharp, noble face softening with an appreciative smile as he observed the quiet exchange between the two young men.
"It is hardly a surprise that you were fatigued, Lord Philia," Gillian remarked smoothly, his voice rich and refined. "News travels fast through the palace halls, even across borders. I heard from His Majesty and His Highness that you paid an unannounced visit to district near southern border."
Iryna, sitting beside her brother, nodded enthusiastically, her eyes lighting up with genuine excitement as she set her teacup down onto its saucer. "Yes. I never thought you’d actually consider returning to your old home. It’s wonderful that you’re willing to go back after all this time."
Philia blushed faintly, a delicate, becoming flush touching his cheeks as he dipped his head with quiet humility, waving a hand airily to dismiss the praise.
"You both flatter me far too much, Prince Gillian, Princess Iryna," Philia murmured, offering a small, embarrassed smile. "It is truly not worthy of such grand compliments. Those children and the dedicated matrons at the orphanage were my family long before I ever set foot in high society or the royal court. Visiting them whenever I can is not some grand act of charity or a tiresome obligation, it is simply returning home. Seeing them safe and warm brings my heart an immense sense of peace."
"Nonsense," Yerel chimed in smoothly, his voice carrying a note of quiet, unshakable pride as he looked down at Philia. "Of course it is worthy of praise. Most nobles in the capital would even dream of setting foot there, let alone personally inspect the quality of the firewood and grain being delivered to an orphanage. You care for them with absolute sincerity, Philia. That kind of unselfish warmth is remarkably rare in court."
Philia chuckled softly, a light, musical sound that further melted the formal boundaries of the breakfast table. He turned his gaze toward the Solaric royals, offering a respectful nod.
"If we’re speaking of commendable deeds, then I must praise the two of you as well," Philia said warmly, his brown eyes settling on Gillian and Iryna. "I’ve heard that Your Highnesses have been visiting orphanages lately and offering them assistance."
Gillian smiled modestly, dabbing the corners of his mouth with his linen napkin. "It was the least Solaric could do while visiting our allies. Seasonal illnesses in the lower districts are always harsh on young children, regardless of which empire’s banner flies overhead."
Iryna waved a hand dismissively, a bright smile spreading across her face. "Oh, please, there’s no need to make such a fuss over it! Gillian and I have always loved children. Spending time with them is a pleasure in itself, and if we can bring them a little comfort along the way, then all the better. We’re simply glad we could help."
"And it was a brilliant, compassionate initiative, my dear," King Alderon remarked approvingly. "An empire’s true strength is never measured solely by its treasury or its armies, but by how well it protects and nurtures its most vulnerable subjects. Seeing my son, and our esteemed guests from Solaric, take such an active, personal interest in the children of the realm truly warms my heart."
"It makes an immeasurable difference to those children, Princess," Philia murmured softly, his tone turning reflective as he stared down into his teacup, watching the amber liquid ripple gently. "When you grow up within the plain walls of an orphanage... you learn very quickly how cold and vast the world outside can feel. The days drag on endlessly, and when you are small, you often feel completely forgotten by the bustling city beyond the gates. A single warm blanket, a fresh wooden toy, or even just a sweet pastry delivered on a Saturday morning... to those children, it isn’t just food or comfort. It is living proof that someone out there knows they exist, and that someone cares enough to remember them."
The dining pavilion fell into a gentle, touching silence for a moment. The emotional weight of Philia’s words settled deeply over everyone at the table, bridging the gap between high nobility and human vulnerability. Yerel’s thumb gently stroked the back of Philia’s hand, offering a steady, quiet reassurance born of years of understanding Philia’s past.
Gillian looked across the table at Philia, his expression softening into genuine warmth.
"The children at your old home are extraordinarily fortunate to have you looking out for them, Lord Philia," Gillian spoke softly. "And the capital is fortunate to have your heart."
"Thank you, Prince Gillian," Philia replied gracefully, offering a quiet bow of his head. "I only hope to do whatever little I can to make their lives a bit brighter."
Princess Iryna leaned forward over the table, resting her chin in her hands, her bright blue eyes shining with sudden, eager inspiration.
"Lord Philia?" Iryna asked softly.
"Yes, Princess?"
"I was thinking..." Iryna began, her voice brimming with youthful enthusiasm. "Would you mind if Gillian and I visited your old orphanage sometime? We’d love to meet the children and see if there’s anything we can do for them."
Yerel raised an eyebrow in mild, protective surprise, while King Alderon offered a quiet, amused smile at the princess’s sudden request.
Philia looked at Iryna, then toward Gillian. For a fraction of a second, his eyes shimmered with a quiet stillness, a flicker so subtle and brief it vanished before anyone around the table could even register it.
His lips slowly curved upward into a smile that radiated absolute grace.
"Of course," Philia replied softly, a fond smile touching his lips. "I’d be delighted to have you both visit."
