Chapter 193: Chapter 193: I’ll Pay Triple

They had already spent a portion of the money Julian Sterling donated!

The school couldn’t accept a donation only to end up having to pay the money back, could it?

"I’ll pay three times that amount."

Ryan Sterling wasn’t concerned about the money.

All that mattered was denying Julian Sterling any opportunity to get close to Evelyn Grant and her family.

As his brother, Ryan naturally knew what Julian was up to.

’He wants to slowly infiltrate Evelyn’s life, like boiling a frog in lukewarm water. By the time Evelyn realizes what’s happening, it’ll be too late.’

’For example, she might find herself in a situation at work or in her personal life that she can’t easily back out of.’

’Or her family—her mother and brother—might become so indebted to Julian’s "generosity" that they’d never be able to repay the favor!’

’Then, when the time is right, Julian will smoothly suggest grabbing dinner or ask her for a small favor as a way to get closer to her.’

’Knowing Evelyn and her personality—how she hates being indebted to anyone—she’d most likely agree.’

’And over time, wouldn’t that give Julian the opening he’s looking for?’

But!

How could Ryan Sterling possibly let that plan succeed?

There was only one scenario in which he would ever accept Evelyn Grant and Julian Sterling getting back together—

Evelyn herself had to willingly agree to it. She would have to admit that she couldn’t forget Julian and wanted to be with him again.

Otherwise, Ryan Sterling would never allow any outside factors to influence Evelyn’s decision.

He wasn’t sure how much of a difference his actions would ultimately make. He understood what his mother had meant with her talk of self-righteous, profound love, but still...

Ryan Sterling just hoped that whatever decision Evelyn made, it wouldn’t be out of desperation or a reluctant acceptance of reality. He wanted it to be... because it was what she truly wanted.

"Alright! I’ll return Mr. Sterling’s donation immediately." When it came to donations, the more the merrier. What reason would the principal have to turn away such an offer?

"My secretary will contact you."

Ryan Sterling waved a hand. "Go on."

"Yes! Of course."

The principal was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something. He quickly turned back and asked, "So... your donation to our school, does it come with any conditions? Should we continue to focus our resources on Alex Grant?"

"Yes, but he’s already an excellent student on his own, isn’t he?"

"Oh, absolutely! Alex Grant’s academic performance has always been top-notch; his teachers never have to worry about him!" The principal then added, as if to himself, "He actually had a guaranteed admission spot, but for some reason, the boy turned it down! The teachers tried to persuade him several times, but he refused to take it."

Ryan Sterling raised a thick brow. "And why was that?"

"He said... he wants to take the college entrance exam himself, just to see what kind of score he can get. To see if he can break 700."

Ryan Sterling thought for a moment. He knew that couldn’t be Alex’s real reason.

But he probably wouldn’t get anything more out of the principal.

"Go back and find Alex Grant’s homeroom teacher. Ask him what the real reason is. And this time, don’t try to persuade him. Respect his decision. I just want to know why he made it, not stand in his way."

"Yes, I understand!"

After the principal left, Ryan Sterling pondered what the real reason could be.

’Alex Grant...’

’As the only son in the Grant family, Evelyn had placed such high hopes on him.’

’Why would he suddenly turn down a guaranteed admission spot and insist on taking the exam himself?’
