Chapter 177: Chapter 165: Oops, Ju Qing is Gone
"Whoa!"
The surrounding anglers couldn’t help but cry out when they saw the rod bend to such an absurd degree. It wasn’t malicious glee—for die-hard fishermen, this was just part of the fun.
"Haha, don’t count me out yet!"
Zuo Xianyun was a veteran angler. When fishing, he shed all other identities to become just another fisherman, same as everyone else at the pond.
He chuckled in response to the other anglers, then slowly rose to his feet. The rod remained bent at a terrifying angle, but he’d weathered the first frantic struggle.
You had to admit, his technique was quite impressive.
"You’ve still got the touch, old friend."
The Little Fish King was also on the floating bridge, just two spots down from Zuo Xianyun. He’d hooked a fish as well, and his rod was bent into a deep bow, nearly a full moon.
"Haha, you’re even more impressive than ever!"
Zuo Xianyun laughed.
After that brief exchange, they both focused on battling their Daqing.
’That looks like a big one. I wonder if he’ll throw it back.’
The fishmonger muttered under his breath.
He was hoping every angler at the pond would cash their catches in with him, especially the ones over 60 jin. This batch of Daqing was in prime condition, and their large size—never mind the monetary value—would absolutely make a name for him.
But Boss Chen was still around, after all. While the fishmonger was making a profit, Boss Chen was bleeding money, so it was best not to rub salt in the man’s wounds.
"Hurry up and eat! One of the fishermen is coming over!"
Zhang Hui saw one of the anglers approaching in Chen Yiheng’s three-wheeler, a Daqing undoubtedly lying in the back. He shoveled down the last two bites of his boxed lunch, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and jumped out.
The fishmonger followed closely behind.
Chen Yuan was in no hurry. He ate while gazing at the pond. Once finished, he closed his lunchbox and leisurely enjoyed a post-meal smoke.
"Holy shit, could that be the hundred-jin giant Daqing?!"
Time slowly trickled by. About an hour later, astonished cries erupted from the floating bridge, drawing the eyes of many anglers toward Zuo Xianyun.
To be precise, they were staring at the water’s surface.
The Daqing hadn’t broken the surface yet, but its shadow was already visible. It twisted its body just beneath the water, a behemoth whose sheer presence was a stunning sight.
The feeling was completely different from seeing one in a holding tank. In a tank, it’s just an exhibit. The pond was the giant Daqing’s true world.
"Holy shit, that’s definitely a giant! I saw the big one from the small pond, and it was about this size. This has to be the 108-jin giant Daqing!"
The surrounding anglers went wild.
Many of them started to crowd around.
Never mind the stunning sight of a hundred-jin giant Daqing; if he landed it, he’d be looking at a payout of tens of thousands, possibly even reaching six figures.
’Don’t you dare throw this one back!’
Hearing the anglers’ shouts, the fishmonger prayed inwardly. ’I can live with them looking down on the Little Kalami, but for the love of God, don’t let him lose a hundred-jin giant!’
SPLASH!
The giant Daqing began to surface. A single, gentle flick of its body sent up a massive spray, and huge ripples spread across the entire pond—a far more breathtaking sight than in the smaller pond.
With it came a violent surge. The whine of the fishing line grew louder and more frantic. Zuo Xianyun felt as if he were trying to hold back a speeding train.
The force was immense, even more terrifying, it seemed, than the wild giant he’d fought at Danjiangkou.
CRACK!
Just as Zuo Xianyun gathered his strength for the final battle with the giant, his fishing rod, unable to withstand the strain, emitted a sharp, cracking sound.
Zuo Xianyun’s eyes widened, but he had no time to react.
SNAP!
The sound of it snapping echoed out. The terrifying force vanished in an instant. Unsteady on his feet, Zuo Xianyun staggered back several steps, nearly falling over.
"Whoops, there goes the giant!"
And all around the floating bridge, the cheerful shouts of the fishermen instantly erupted.
