I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me

Chapter 137: Chapter 137: New Situation
’This information is incredibly precious. No wonder Master Ji told me to destroy the blueprints after reading them and just commit everything to memory.’
After finishing her inspection, Su Wan walked into the living room and offered a polite smile. "I’ve finished checking everything."
"Nothing is missing. Thank you for bringing it all this way. Why don’t you stay for a quick bite to eat?"
The soldier immediately stood up and saluted. "No need to trouble yourself, Ms. Su Wan. I have to return to the base right away. However, Master Ji asked that you give him a call after receiving the items."
"Alright."
"Are you free now? I can take you to make the call."
The soldier asked tentatively.
Su Wan hadn’t expected him to be in such a hurry. ’It must be an order from Master Ji.’
"Alright, let’s go." Su Wan was grateful that Master Ji was being so considerate of her family’s situation.
The soldier readily agreed. As Su Wan was about to head out, Aunt Zhao quickly insisted on going with her.
No one in the family felt comfortable letting Su Wan go out alone anymore. After all, her due date was fast approaching.
The two gathered their things and followed the young soldier out of the house. A military vehicle was waiting for them just outside the alley.
Su Wan had assumed she would just be taking a call at a public kiosk, so the soldier’s serious demeanor made her feel a little puzzled.
Thankfully, the car ride was short, and they soon arrived at a private courtyard that had a telephone.
Su Wan walked in and was surprised to see many people coming and going. It wasn’t just soldiers; there were some ordinary civilians as well.
Her suspicion grew. She noticed that the rooms around the courtyard all seemed to serve different purposes, and there were even soldiers standing guard. The security was unusually tight.
"Ms. Su Wan, this way."
The young soldier led the way to a large corner room in the main building. From the doorway, Su Wan could see it was full of telegraph operators. People were seated in neat rows behind eight desks.
They were all bustling about, handling telegrams. Phones rang intermittently, and everyone looked extremely busy.
The soldier led Su Wan to one of the desks and had a quick word with the man working there. The other man immediately vacated his seat and went to help at a different desk.
The soldier then dialed the contact number for Master Ji.
"Ms. Su Wan, please."
Su Wan took the receiver he handed her. "Ms. Su Wan, I must inform you of a serious matter."
"You cannot go home. You must stay and rest in the accommodations our comrades in the military have arranged for you. This is because Lu Zhengchuan’s identity was confirmed by the enemy while on his mission."
"The border conflict has become extremely dangerous. With Lu Zhengchuan serving as the commander, enemy agents will try to infiltrate the country and use any means necessary to control, threaten, or influence him."
As far-fetched as the news sounded, it was a real threat.
If an all-out war were to break out, the enemy wouldn’t hold back. This kind of espionage was standard procedure.
"Will Lu Zhengchuan be alright?" Su Wan’s heart instantly leaped into her throat.
"He’s the commander. If anyone’s safe, it’s him. But he’s responsible for the lives of all his soldiers, so there can be absolutely no mistakes at a time like this."
"I’m also aware of your condition, Ms. Su Wan. This arrangement is to prevent those people from reaching you and causing any stress that might affect your pregnancy."
Su Wan understood the military’s arrangements. "What about my classes at the university...?"
"My people have already arranged for your leave of absence."
"A dedicated soldier will be assigned to look after your daily needs during this time. Special arrangements will also be made when it’s time for you to give birth. Once the situation improves and we’ve caught all the agents, you’ll be able to go home."
Su Wan considered this for a moment. "Master Ji, thank you for making these arrangements. I will cooperate."
’This was certainly no time to be a burden.’
