I Can Devour Monsters' SSS Talents
Chapter 356: Memories Of A Calamity III
Titan fell to one knee, the first chains were starting to form.
At first glance, it seemed that everything was finally coming to an end, Titan would be sealed, the Calamity would be imprisoned, and the world would be saved.
But right at the moment when everything could have ended—
Cindar pushed his sword through the back of one of the seven leaders, the man did not even understand what had happened.
"Why?" The blade came out of his chest and blood fell onto the ground.
"...Cindar?" Aurelia turned around, real disbelief could be seen on her face.
"I’m sorry." Cindar pulled the sword out of the leader’s body, his voice was calm, but there was no real regret in it, it was clear that he did not really care about what he was saying.
He had never planned to let the Calamity be sealed, if Black Silence was imprisoned, he would never reach his wish.
"It was you." Aurelia only looked at him for a few moments, and then it was as if the final piece of the puzzle fell into place in her mind.
"You allowed that thing to enter our world."
"I only took back something this world stole from me."
"And to take it back, you sold all of us?" Aurelia’s eyes changed for a few seconds, not only with anger but also with something like sadness.
She had known all this time that someone had betrayed them, she knew the source of this infection was beyond their world ... but she truly did not expect the traitor to be one of the world’s greatest hopes.
"If I have to, I will do anything to bring back what was taken from me." Cindar raised his sword.
His betrayal broke the balance of the battle, one of the leaders was dead, and two others were seriously injured.
Titan stood up again, and Black Silence inside him exploded with even greater force.
Aurelia understood that they could no longer kill Titan, so there was only one other way left.
She had already prepared a backup plan, she knew that any variable could happen in this decisive battle, so she was prepared.
Seven people had entered the battle, one had fallen by Cindar’s hand, but even the soul of the dead leader still answered the final seal.
Aurelia began the ritual.
This time it was not with Mana but with life, with the soul, and the first person burned himself, his body turned into light, his soul was pulled out, and a huge chain of light wrapped around Titan’s arm.
The second leader sacrificed himself too, and a chain formed around Titan’s left leg.
The third leader ... the fourth, and one after another, every chain had the price of one life, one soul, one hero.
Cindar understood what they were doing, he attacked them, but it was too late.
Aurelia was the last one remaining, her body was full of wounds, blood ran from the corner of her mouth.
But before activating the final seal, she looked at Cindar, not with hatred, and perhaps that was worse.
"You did not lose everything, Cindar, you gained the love of the world and you threw everything away yourself." Then her body turned into light and the final chain was formed.
BOOOOOOM!
Titan was slammed into the ground, seven glowing chains pinned his body deep into the Giant’s Graveyard.
Black Silence roared, not with a sound but with hunger and anger, but it could no longer move.
The Calamity was finally suppressed and Cindar was alone ... again.
For years, he tried.
With a sword, with magic, with ancient Artifacts, with forbidden rituals, with blood, with sacrifice, but the chains were not normal, they were not made with Mana, each one was a continuation of the soul of one of the leaders.
No matter how strong he became, he could not break them, and worse, Black Silence was no longer devouring anything.
So no power was reaching Cindar either, his growth stopped.
Lian now completely understood Cindar’s true motivation, he did not worship Father, Black Silence was not a goddess or a sacred being to him, all of them were tools to him.
Tools for one goal, his family, his lover, and bringing them back from death.
"So you wanted billions of beings to die just to bring back a few people." Lian whispered quietly.
Sacrificing an entire world to bring back the people he loved .... Was it worth it? He could not answer that, because he did not know what he would do in such a situation.
But sacrificing an entire world was not a joke either, especially because through this method the Calamity could reach more worlds and the number of victims could reach trillions.
Trillions of children, women, and men ... billions of families and living, intelligent beings that could love, hate, build, and destroy... they would be sacrificed just to bring back a few people?
"But is it even possible to reverse life and death and bring the dead back from death?" He did not know the answer to this question, that higher being had said it was possible.
But had it really told the truth? Or was it only a lie to control Cindar’s feelings?
He had no idea ... but one thing he was sure of, the final winners would be Father and the Black Calamity, who would achieve their goal of destroying forms of life and worlds.
And thinking about it made the hair on his body stand up and gave him a very bad and dark feeling.
One person! That being who was called Father was bringing almost an entire world to an end just by manipulating one person’s feelings ... what kind of power was that?
"Is it possible that something exactly like this happened to our world too?" He then whispered to himself, it was possible that such a scenario had also been carried out in their world and that the Calamity they had faced was one of the five Calamities.
If that was true, then it was possible that someone in their world had also betrayed them and allowed the Calamity to enter ... but who?
He looked at Cindari ... if his reasoning was correct, the traitor in their world was also one of the humans who stood at the top of the world.
"Ah, but this makes everything more complicated, then what exactly is the System? Why were we given the power to resist while the other worlds were not? And what are the real conditions for choosing an anchor?" He still had many unanswered questions.
He decided to watch the rest of the memories, maybe he could get more answers.
And the first thing he saw was Cindar’s anger and worry, Black Silence being imprisoned was not good news for him.
Every life Black Silence devoured made the Calamity stronger, every world it destroyed made its existence grow.
And part of all this growth reached Cindar through the Anchor Link.
One world.
Two worlds.
Ten worlds.
If Black Silence ate enough, Cindar really might one day reach a level where life and death were nothing more than laws he could break.
At least that was what he believed, and he tried many times to contact Father again.
In dreams... beside the remains of the Primordial Root, which had now become the Forgotten Tree.
But no answer came and years passed, and Father remained silent, but Cindar did not give up.
After decades of research, he found another way, he could not break Titan’s seven chains, but he did not need to release the Calamity all at once.
The Primordial Root had not completely disappeared, part of it had survived.
A piece that later became something the Cindari called the Forgotten Tree.
Its root network was still connected to the world, and through that network, a very weak connection to Titan also remained.
Cindar found a way.
Little by little, year by year, a very small amount of Black Silence was transferred from Titan to the tree.
So little that the chains would not react immediately, the tree became a temporary Vessel, but there was one problem.
Black Silence was hungry, even in that weak state, and to stay alive inside the tree, it started eating the tree itself.
Mana, life force, water, roots, almost everything was slowly being consumed.
And Lian finally understood the real reason why the Forgotten Tree had dried up.
"So that was it..." The tree was not dying simply because of the passage of time.
It was being eaten, and Cindar knew it, the main plan was simple, Black Silence would be transferred from Titan to the tree over centuries.
When enough of the Calamity had gathered, Cindar would awaken and become the new Vessel himself!
That was right, he planned to become the new Vessel himself, he was already the Calamity’s Anchor and had very high compatibility.
He even believed that if he was both the Anchor and the Vessel, he would gain even more power.
Then Black Silence would be released again, it would devour more worlds, Cindar would grow, until he could bring back his dead.
But such a plan could take hundreds of years, and he could not stay awake for all that time.
So he created a race.
With the help of a piece of the Primordial Root, his own blood, he caused the surviving intelligent beings of the world who were the same species as himself to undergo a kind of mutation.
Which eventually caused a new generation to be born, smarter, stronger, faster, and easier to control and manipulate.
The Cindari.
Their name came from him.
