I Can Devour Monsters' SSS Talents
Chapter 506: The Square of Confession
The creature had a dry and cracked body, a white and rotten robe still hanging from its shoulders, and the skin on its hands was cracked and almost without color.
And stranger than that was the fact that it had no face, a smooth white layer like wax covered everything from its forehead to under its chin, without any eyes, nose, or mouth.
And in the center of its chest, there was an empty circular hole.
[Hollow Pilgrim.]
[Rank: Normal.]
[Level: 31.]
The creature slowly walked toward them, but it was not alone and a second one came out of the nearby building.
[Level: 28.]
A third.
A fourth.
In less than a few seconds, six Hollow Pilgrims spread out on both sides of the street, but their movements were slow. They did not even look threatening.
The first Hollow Pilgrim came forward and was almost ten meters away from them.
Kain had not turned off the light yet and the Pilgrim’s head turned toward the light in his hand for a moment and then toward Lian.
Lian released a very small amount of mana and the creature’s head turned again.
He wanted to see if these monsters only reacted to light or if they reacted to any form of energy.
If it was the first one, it could mean that there was a deeper meaning behind them but if it was the second one, then they were like any other monster.
And this thing reacted to mana too.
"It is not only light."
"What?"
"They can sense fresh mana, simply put, they are like any normal monster, there is no need to worry about this."
Lian turned off his mana again.
The creature hesitated for a fraction of a second, but the Pilgrim standing in front of Kain reacted more strongly to his light and started moving closer.
He watched its movement, the monster was still slow but then suddenly as the creature got closer, its body bent down and the dry muscles in its legs contracted in an unnatural way.
At that moment, the Hunter’s instincts warned him of danger.
BOOOM!
The stone under the Pilgrim’s feet broke.
The creature that had been walking at the speed of an old human only a moment ago closed the distance in a fraction of a second.
Kain did not even have time to say a word, but Lian raised his hand and placed his palm directly on the creature’s white face.
TAK!
All of the Pilgrim’s momentum stopped right there.
Its feet stayed off the ground for a moment and its dried body shook from the sudden stop.
But his hand did not move back even a few centimeters.
Kain only watched for a few moments and sighed, this thing’s speed had been so high for a moment that even he could not follow it with his eyes.
But the young Vorhelm turned his hand and the Pilgrim’s body changed direction in the air.
BOOM!
Its back crashed into the white wall, the force was so strong that the stone cracked.
Kain moved at the same moment, the light around his palm became concentrated and his direct attack hit the center of the creature’s chest, right inside the hole.
For a moment, a golden symbol lit up inside the Pilgrim’s body, shaped like a circle with several lines coming from the center.
"Did you see that?"
"Yeah."
The light became stronger.
BOOM!
The Pilgrim’s body became weak and it fell down from the wall.
[You killed a Level 28 Hollow Pilgrim.]
The other Pilgrims attacked at the same moment and this time all of them moved quickly and did not waste any more time, it was clear that they had understood that they were facing dangerous enemies.
Two of them went directly toward Kain.
One moved in front of one of them, the Pilgrim jumped onto one of the ant’s front legs without fear and its dry claws scratched across One’s natural armor.
KRRRK!
A thin line was left behind and at the same moment One lowered his head, his jaws closed.
TAK!
The upper half of the Pilgrim’s body was caught between his jaws and the giant ant lifted it from the ground and then slammed it directly into the stone street.
BOOM!
The street broke, the creature still tried to stand up but Kain moved past One and sent a beam of light into the hole in its chest.
The inner symbol lit up for a moment and the creature’s body stopped moving.
[You killed a Level 27 Hollow Pilgrim.]
Another Pilgrim attacked from Lian’s right side, he allowed it to come closer and when its dry hand was only a few centimeters away from his face, he grabbed its wrist.
He took one step forward and moved his shoulder under the creature’s body, then the monster passed over his shoulder like a piece of wood and fell to the ground.
CRACK!
The young Vorhelm put his foot on its chest and the bones broke, but the creature still moved, as if this attack was not enough to kill it.
He looked at the hole in its chest, so the main weak point was really there, he tried to target that point with lightning or normal mana.
But it still had no effect, it seemed that they needed the Light Element to kill these creatures.
"Kain."
"Got it"
The light came from the other side of the street and entered the hole, the Pilgrim stopped and its body became completely lifeless.
In less than two minutes, all six creatures had fallen to the ground.
Lian knelt beside the first corpse, put his finger inside the edge of the hole, there was no natural structure there, the hole had not been a part of their bodies from the beginning.
Something had come out of their chest or had been removed.
Kain stood beside him.
"What do you think was there?"
"I don’t know, whatever it was, maybe it was one of their internal organs, the hole is in the chest so logically it should be the heart, but the heart is still in its place, so God knows."
He was still not sure either, who had even done this to these former humans?
At that moment, a very weak sound came from the top of one of the buildings.
Without raising his head, Lian sensed the presences, four people were coming closer and these were humans.
They had probably noticed them since the fight had started and had been watching them.
Their battle had not made much noise but it was still a battle and it was normal for it to attract attention.
Kain noticed it after a few seconds as well, his gaze went up and what he saw was one of the soldiers of Region Three, crouching beside the edge of the rooftop.
He was holding a thin and cylindrical device in his hand and a red light was gathering at its tip, something like a warning signal.
"These are outsiders." One of the people behind the soldier said in a low voice.
"Then what were those idiots doing? Weren’t they supposed to stop outsiders from passing?"
"Looks like these two escaped from them."
"Quick, catch them before they escape!"
