I Can Devour Monsters' SSS Talents

Chapter 670: The Truth Behind Roderick’s Death

Anyway, he now had enough reason not to let this matter continue for too long.

Then his gaze reached the lower part of the window, the rewards.

Five full levels, five thousand Fragments, and an Ancient-Rank Treasure.

Lian looked at the last reward for a moment, it seemed this Quest was so important that even the stingy system had finally become a little generous.

For someone who was currently at level thirty-four, such rewards were extremely valuable.

If he could reach level thirty-five before completing the Quest, the reward of five levels could take him directly to level forty.

Of course, all rewards would only be given after completing the quest, and it was still unclear how much time reaching the objective would require.

But even that possibility was enough to catch Lian’s interest.

And five thousand Fragments?

He gave a short laugh, this one is really tempting, he had obtained 207 Fragments over the past few days.

Now the system was offering a reward worth many times more than his recent achievement, and he could use it to unlock his first Innate Tree.

But it wasn’t just about the rewards.

Deep within the land, a being of the Calamity class was imprisoned.

If White Oblivion really intended to destroy the sun, there might be very little time left to stop it.

He thought about the Ruined Heart for a moment.

The second slot...

A faint smile appeared on his face, maybe it’ll be filled much sooner than I thought, besides, if he was lucky enough for his Evolution Quest to involve devouring a Calamity again, things would become even easier.

Even so, he did not get too excited, he still did not know what was waiting for him.

"My lord?" The Nine-Venom Castellan’s voice brought Lian out of his thoughts.

He closed the quest window and looked at the creature in front of him, Four was still standing with his usual dignity.

"Has something happened?"

Lian looked at him for a moment and then nodded.

"Yeah. Looks like my guess wasn’t that far off."

"Do you speak of White Oblivion?" The Castellan tilted his head slightly.

"That’s part of it."

Lian took a few steps toward the edge of the rock.

From that height, a large part of the central land could be seen. Farther away, several Withered were moving toward the center on a narrow platform.

"I think that thing is preparing for something big."

The monster remained silent for several seconds and then answered.

"If it has retained its will, my lord, I find it unlikely that it would regard all this disorder as a matter of little importance."

"That’s what I think too." Lian nodded and then looked toward the Hollow Sun, two things were now clear to him.

White Oblivion really was one of the Calamities, and the Hollow Sun was facing a serious threat, but he still did not know what connection existed between the prisoners’ call and the possible death of the Judge.

He also knew no way to return the sun to its sleeping state.

"Before the Judge fell asleep, did you see any signs of changes in the containment structures?" He asked Four.

The containment structures were the structures that restrained the prisoners and placed them in a state between sleep and wakefulness.

The Castellan thought for a moment.

"I remember only that the orders grew stronger, what took place in the depths was hidden from my sight."

Young Vorhelm nodded, so he still had no clear solution, but the information he had gathered at least showed him the direction of his next investigation.

He needed to get closer to the center.

He needed to examine things related to the sun and, most importantly, find out why White Oblivion was pulling all those prisoners toward itself.

If he could discover the real purpose of this call, he might also find a way to stop the creature’s plan.

He looked at the white roots beneath the rock for a moment, his intuition still told him that they might have a lot to do with all of this.

’This time, I shouldn’t just wait for the next thing to happen.’

Over the past few days, he had been forced many times to react to events over which he had no control.

But now, he had gained a clearer picture of the prison’s situation and, more importantly, he had a clear goal.

He looked at Four again.

"That’s enough for now, we’ll talk more later about the containment structures and what you remember about this place’s past."

"Whatever knowledge I possess shall not be withheld from you, my lord." The Castellan lowered his head.

Lian looked at the creature’s nine-pointed crown for a moment and then asked.

"By the way, you still don’t regret becoming a member of the Colony?"

"Nay, my lord."

"Even though your bond is permanent?"

"Indeed."

The creature looked toward the center for a moment.

"So long as this bond keeps me from returning to the grasp of White Oblivion, I shall consider it a great blessing, furthermore, to serve a man capable of defeating me is an honor."

"Well, I hope you don’t change your mind later." Lian gave a short smile, he had noticed that this one was completely different from Dreadmaw.

Of course, Dreadmaw was also terribly afraid of the Hollow Sun, and it seemed that even the sun was a joke compared to White Oblivion.

Perhaps if Three also faced that Calamity, he would prefer to become his subordinate.

Then he raised his right hand.

"Before I send you back, I want to know if you had any effect on the mind of that human who was attacking me at the same time as you?" Then he thought of something and asked at the last moment.

He remembered that Roderick had been behaving in a strangely insane and crazy way.

"Nay, my lord."

He nodded, and streams of light formed around Four’s body.

The creature lowered his head one last time, and a moment later, his huge figure disappeared among the faint light.

[ Special Member Four: Returned to Colony House ]

Lian remained on the rock for a while.

The matter of Roderick was still bothering him, now that he thought about it more carefully, that guy had been acting strangely from the very moment they met again.

’A spiritual attack that had disturbed his mind.’ It was not a difficult conclusion to reach.

And in this entire land, there happened to be a being that seemed to have a special interest in disturbing the minds of living creatures.

White Oblivion...

’Could it be? Was Roderick’s mind disturbed by that Calamity before his death? But why?’

Roderick had attacked him in a very strange way, even though he knew he was no match for him, he still kept attacking, as if he wanted to die on purpose.

Lian had even tried several times to give him a chance to escape, but that idiot had continued attacking him.

’Does that mean White Oblivion drove him so insane that he attacked me? For what reason? Because it wanted Roderick to die?’ Young Vorhelm frowned.

Could that Calamity’s goal all along have been to get Roderick killed?

But why?

’Wait...’

’If that’s true ... then Amelie? ... Even the base?’

’My God.’

A crazy theory came to his mind, and if it was correct ... then all this time, from the moment they entered this land, all their actions and behavior had been under that Calamity’s influence.

But how?

Didn’t he have nine dragons protecting him from spiritual attacks?

He immediately examined his soul, everything was safe and sound, he checked his soul and mind several times and made sure that he really had not been attacked spiritually or mentally.

So he was not under mental influence.

But ... the fact that he was safe did not mean the same was true for everyone else.

’All this time ... everyone were its puppets.’ He sighed.

’It wants me ... more precisely, just like how Black Silence wanted me, White Oblivion wants me too.’

"Now I really want to know, who even managed to imprison this Calamity?"
