Zhu Peng said, "Who can withstand the torture devices of the Ministry of Justice? Once inside, you practically lose a layer of skin; I’ve never seen anyone endure to the end without confessing."

About a quarter of an hour later, Zhou Wei came to report, saying the prisoner was already secured in the dungeon, and asked when Zhu Cheng planned to interrogate them, so he could make arrangements.

Zhu Cheng said, "Right now!"

Zhou Wei’s eyes flickered, and he immediately led the way.

Duan Rong and Zhu Peng followed him into the dungeon.

The dungeon of the Ministry of Justice was eerie and damp, shadows looming everywhere. Zhu Cheng followed Zhou Wei deeper into it, and after a while, a piercing scream echoed out from the darkness.

Duan Rong and Zhu Peng didn’t venture further inside and only sat at the entrance. After about the time it takes to burn half a stick of incense, Zhu Cheng came out from the depths of the dungeon; his pale face was spattered with a few droplets of blood and flesh.

As soon as Zhu Cheng approached, Zhu Peng asked, "Confessed yet?"

"Not yet." Perhaps having just dealt with someone, Zhu Cheng’s expression was somewhat grim. "That was just an appetizer! No matter how stubborn they are, it’s just a matter of taking a breath; three rounds and they’ll crack."

Zhu Peng said, "It’s mealtime now; let’s eat something first."

Zhu Cheng’s gaze tightened; having just tortured someone, he had no appetite. But seeing it was indeed mealtime, he instructed Zhou Wei to guard the prisoner well, then left the dungeon with Duan Rong and Zhu Peng.

Standing at the dungeon entrance, Duan Rong asked, "What shall we eat?"

Zhu Peng replied, "Fish!"

As he spoke, he waved to a soldier, who then came over carrying two large white fish.

Zhu Peng took the fish from him and smiled, "These were just caught from Wild Lake. Come, let’s go to my residence, and I’ll cook you both some stewed fish. How does that sound?"

Zhu Peng’s residence wasn’t far from the Ministry of Justice, and the three of them rode horses there quickly.

Zhu Peng prepared the fish stew, simmering it on a small charcoal fire, and placed it in the cool room.

The fish from Wild Lake were naturally plump and delicious, especially when paired with tofu and greens. Not only did Duan Rong savor it, but even Zhu Cheng, who initially had little appetite, managed to eat some.

The three of them drank some wine. After eating for a while, Zhu Cheng suddenly stood up, cupping his fists, "You two keep eating. I must deal with the lot in the dungeon. Farewell!"

Zhu Peng said, "There’s no need to rush, is there? Finish eating before you go."

Zhu Cheng replied, "I dare not eat more. If I continue, I’ll vomit them out when dealing with them, which would ruin the mood."

Zhu Peng’s face immediately changed, as if envisioning the bloody scene in the dungeon, and he stopped persuading him. Zhu Cheng mounted his horse and returned to the Ministry of Justice in the night.

Zhu Cheng returned to the dungeon, where the dim lights shone upon a few blood-soaked figures, resembling devils in Hell.

Zhu Cheng coughed and said, "Have you thought it through? What you just experienced was merely a starter. If you were to endure all the torture devices of the Ministry of Justice, even demons would tremble!"

As he spoke, Zhu Cheng suddenly grabbed the scalp of the person next to him and pulled up his face. This person was the leader of the Craftsmen. The lamp light illuminated his face, showing his bruised complexion, blood oozing from the corners of his mouth, and his wide, staring pupils were already starting to lose focus...

This person had unknowingly died from poisoning!

Zhu Cheng’s heart turned cold, as he hurriedly checked the others, all displaying the same symptoms.

Who could enter the Ministry of Justice’s dungeon to poison them?

What level of defense does the Ministry of Justice maintain?

Zhu Cheng felt a chill ascend from his feet, racing up his spine.

He strode out and sternly asked the guards at the door, "Who has been inside just now?"

The guard, sensing Zhu Cheng’s fury, replied shakily, "Only Temple Director Zhou went inside for a while."

"It’s Zhou Wei!" Zhu Cheng’s scalp tingled as he suddenly realized he hadn’t seen Zhou Wei since he entered.

"Where is he?"

The guard said, "Temple Director Zhou mentioned he had business and would be back shortly, instructing us to keep watch."

Zhou Wei’s calm and resolute face flashed through Zhu Cheng’s mind.

This deputy had been his colleague for many years, loyal throughout.

He had tested this person several times but had never encountered issues, gradually earning his trust. He never imagined this person would be a planted mole by his side.

Truly hidden deep and planted well!
