I Can Enlighten Everything
Chapter 101: Goodbye, Demon King
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Goodbye, Demon King
Gabriel was three hundred and ninety-eight years old this year.
He used to think that living to this age was enough. Since he had dedicated his entire life to the great Holy Light, dying in the struggle against darkness would be his greatest resting place.
However, the collapse of his faith suddenly filled him with the fear of death.
"I am willing to tell you the Secret Technique for Soul Devouring!" he shouted.
"Oh." Shen Yun’s expression was flat as he raised a finger. "Goodbye, then."
"Wait—! I have a secret, a monumental secret!"
Gabriel’s eyes widened so much they looked ready to burst. Even he felt incredibly pathetic at this moment, exactly like the enemies he had once disdained. But fear overshadowed all his humiliation. Right now, he simply wanted to survive.
"Oh?" Shen Yun maintained his nonchalant expression, though he didn’t proceed with his attack.
"HUFF, HUFF, PANT." Gabriel gasped for air, trying hard to calm his emotions. His internal organs felt as if they were burning. His injuries were already severe, making the hope of breaking out extremely slim.
"HEH... HAHAHA." He laughed miserably. "I have wasted my entire life under a lie. The Ancestor of Holy Light isn’t a so-called hero at all, nor is he even a Law Cultivator of the Holy Light! The so-called Holy Light, faith, and justice are all lies. The Holy Light suppresses emotions to create souls of absolute justice, only to let them fall into desire. All of this was merely for the sake of cultivating the Soul-Devouring Secret Manual! Even Demon King Ward was just a fallen disciple of the Ancestor of Holy Light who accidentally broke through."
"Isn’t that normal?" Shen Yun revealed a disdainful expression. "He is merely a Void God; only you natives would revere him as some Ancestor of Holy Light. So, what is your secret?"
"If I tell you, will you let me go?" Gabriel’s face looked grim. He suddenly remembered that many Black Mages had asked him the exact same thing in the past, and every single one of them had died. However, he had no choice but to ask; otherwise, he would die immediately.
"Perhaps." Shen Yun looked completely indifferent.
"You will definitely be interested." Knowing he had no other choice, Gabriel licked his parched lips and decided to reveal a small portion of the secret first. "The Ancestor of Holy Light, just like you, comes from another world. He is a defector from a faction called the Soul-devouring Hall! I have the records he left behind!"
"Soul-devouring Hall?" Just hearing the name, combined with the man’s Soul-Devouring Secret Manual, was enough to tell that this was not a righteous faction. Shen Yun thought for a moment before a smile crept onto his lips. "To think a defector from the Soul-devouring Hall actually came to this world. How interesting. Where are these records you speak of?"
"If you are willing to let me go..." Gabriel smiled bitterly. "This is the only thing I can offer in exchange." He knew very well that if he told the truth directly, it would mean certain death.
"It’s merely the Soul-devouring Hall." Shen Yun scoffed. "Don’t think too highly of yourself. You will either tell me and accept a Soul Contract to become a slave for a thousand years, or you will simply die."
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand. Lightning surged as he began to gather energy.
"I’ll tell you! I’m willing to be your slave!" Gabriel’s eyes lit up slightly.
A Soul Contract! A slave for a thousand years! Although he didn’t know exactly what a Soul Contract was, he could roughly guess its function. Furthermore, only a deity could live for thousands of years! So that was it. His greatest value was that he was about to become a deity! Who wouldn’t want a deity as a slave!
"The records are..." Suddenly feeling confident, he revealed the location. Then, he knelt in the void, lowered his head, and respectfully called out, "This subordinate greets the master."
Then—
SQUELCH!
A metallic-looking arm pierced straight through his heart from behind. It was Xiaojie’s attack.
"Wh-why..." Gabriel simply couldn’t believe the searing pain in his body. He was someone about to become a deity!
"Sorry about that," Shen Yun said, stretching lazily. "I left the house in a hurry today and forgot to bring a contract, so it’s goodbye after all."
"You—!"
Gabriel couldn’t stop the blood pouring from his mouth. As his consciousness faded, only one thought remained in his mind: "What a liar!"
With the death of the Saint Hall Master, the Demon King’s remnant soul suddenly darted out. He had barely opened his mouth before a bolt of lightning effortlessly scattered his soul into nothingness.
This former Demon King had already been nearing the end of his life. No matter how infamous he once was, he was still nothing more than an insignificant existence now.
"Xiaojiu, check the area," Shen Yun said, maintaining his caution.
"They are both dead as a doornail, Master," Xiaojiu reported after a detailed inspection.
Hearing this, Shen Yun finally let out a sigh of relief. He had won yet again. There would be no cliché of an enemy secretly slipping away after death only to make a comeback later. However, he hadn’t expected that a little bit of acting would allow him to easily trick his opponent into giving him what he wanted.
"Is a Void God really that amazing?" he wondered. "It doesn’t seem too difficult to break through to that realm."
"Let’s go back. There seems to be another enemy left on the Cat Race’s side," Shen Yun said, hurrying back with Xiaojie.
There was no battle as he had imagined. Instead, Alicia and the five Saint Realm experts sent by Violet had surrounded an old man—Maynard, the Great Saint of the Ibi Empire.
The strength of a single Great Saint was equivalent to the combined power of six ordinary Saint Realm cultivators; this was a normal power dynamic.
Upon seeing Shen Yun, the Great Saint’s face instantly turned pale.
"I—"
BOOM!
Shen Yun didn’t even let him finish his sentence. He immediately ordered Xiaojiu to summon a full-powered bolt of lightning to strike him down. Maynard, the Great Saint, perished!
"Y-Your Highness..." Alicia’s feline face bore a look of joy, tinged with disbelief.
"Yeah, it’s all been taken care of." Shen Yun raised his voice. "The Demon King is dead."
"...YEAH!"
After a brief silence, all the Cat Race People suddenly erupted into cheers. They had been prepared for their entire race to be wiped out, but now, they had been miraculously saved. Even the few Saint Realm cultivators from Violet wore expressions of utter disbelief. The best outcome they had envisioned was merely repelling the enemy. But to think he had been killed so easily? That was the Demon King!
The way everyone looked at Shen Yun finally changed. In the past, he was merely seen as a powerful expert. But now—he was the hero who stopped the descent of darkness! His name would resound entirely across the continent, just like the Ancestor of Holy Light, and become an ever-lasting legend!
Listening to the cheers in his ears and seeing the reverent, yearning gazes of the crowd, Shen Yun admitted that he was enjoying this moment a little. While carrying hope certainly brought pressure, becoming that hope and being respected by others also made one feel incredibly pleasant.
Suddenly, Shen Yun spotted Erin among the cheering crowd of Cat Race People. She was truly eye-catching. It wasn’t just because of her snow-white complexion, but because while all the other Cat Race People were huddling together to celebrate, she stood all alone.
