Chapter 117: Chapter 102: Overly Attentive for No Reason
Chapter 112: Unwarranted Flattery!
"I am not your master!" Su Tan said.
"Hehe... I know, I know. I haven’t formally become your disciple yet, so it’s not official... Just half a master for now. Master, I haven’t forgotten," Yun Buliu said, a shameless grin plastered on his face.
As the saying went, the thick-skinned gorge themselves while the thin-skinned starve.
Yun Buliu was indeed the Medicine King. Usually, he didn’t give anyone the time of day. Countless nobles lined up at his door begging for medicine, yet he couldn’t even be bothered to spare them a glance.
Why was he acting like this toward Su Tan? It was because Su Tan was worthy of his respect. He possessed an Alchemy Skill that even the Medicine King could only dream of matching.
The strong were revered. People instinctively respected those stronger than themselves.
"Don’t worry, Grandmaster. My master is great at tending flowers. Leave it to him, and he’ll definitely make your garden brim with life, turning it into a peach blossom haven akin to the Immortal Realm," Shangguan Xiu’Er chimed in.
This master and disciple pair... they were cut from the same cloth.
Su Tan felt helpless. You couldn’t slap a smiling face, so he decided to just let them be. He put down the wooden ladle he was using to water the flowers.
"Let me make this clear first. No matter how well you do, I will not take you in as my disciple. However... if you ruin my flowers, you’ll have to compensate me," Su Tan said mildly.
"Yes, yes, yes. Don’t worry, Master," Yun Buliu said. "We guarantee you’ll be satisfied."
Su Tan shook his head and walked over to Yun Chu.
"Sit down!"
"Ah? Oh..." Yun Chu froze for a moment before obediently taking a seat.
She was dumbfounded by Yun Buliu and Shangguan Xiu’Er’s tactics. Did that actually work?
After snapping back to reality, Yun Chu’s big, watery eyes shifted. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "How about... Mr. Su, I also go and help you tidy up the flowers and plants first?"
Yun Chu felt like she had lost. She had lost to this master and disciple duo who had only been here for two days. She had obviously arrived over a month before them, but her relationship with Mr. Su remained lukewarm, making zero progress.
She wanted to ask him directly to take her as a disciple, but she was afraid of being rejected. She wanted to curry favor, but she was afraid of upsetting him. So she had dragged it out until now, still unable to think of a solution.
Yet, the moment Yun Buliu and his disciple arrived, they taught her a lesson. So being thick-skinned... actually had its uses?
Yun Chu was eager to give it a try. She wanted to copy Yun Buliu and Shangguan Xiu’Er.
"What flowers are you going to tidy up? They’re just idle with nothing better to do. Ignore them." Su Tan waved his hand, signaling her to stay put.
"Alright..." Yun Chu murmured.
"Give me your hand!"
"Oh..."
Yun Chu obediently extended her hand. Today, she was a bit absent-minded, stealing glances at Yun Buliu and his disciple, and then at Su Tan. She really wished she could act like those two.
That was until Su Tan spoke.
"Done," he said. "That’s all for today. You can go back and rest."
"Mhm..." Yun Chu nodded.
She stood up, intending to leave, but seeing the master and disciple working away enthusiastically in the courtyard, she felt this was a rare opportunity.
"Master, this half of the plants has already been treated by your disciple using a special plant-nourishing technique. Now they are full of vitality, growing much better, and even their fragrance is much sweeter," Yun Buliu said, hurriedly presenting his achievements to Su Tan.
Su Tan sniffed the air. It really was slightly different from before. This man had some skill.
"Are you satisfied? If so, your disciple will immediately treat the next patch. If not, I will use another method to nourish them again," Yun Buliu offered.
"It’s alright!" Su Tan casually replied. He then went over to supervise Chen Xiaoqi’s cultivation.
"Thank you, Master, for not finding it lacking!" Yun Buliu rejoiced. "Alright" meant he hadn’t done it wrong. The pair immediately began treating the remaining flowers.
Yun Chu facepalmed. This actually worked? Had she been overcomplicating things all this time? Was Mr. Su actually not that petty? Did he sometimes need and enjoy having people help him out?
Without a doubt, he certainly needed it. Su Tan was blind. Many things were quite inconvenient for him, especially when he was busy. He simply didn’t have the time to handle all these chores.
"I’ll help too," Yun Chu said.
"Sure! It’s great that Chu’Er can come help. Master and I were almost overwhelmed," Shangguan Xiu’Er said with a smile.
She could see what Yun Chu was after; she also had designs on Su Tan. However, her personality kept her cold, aloof, and unhurried. Yun Chu’s status in the Yun Family was not low. Being in the King’s Dao realm meant she was no small figure in Celestial Fragrance. Naturally, Shangguan Xiu’Er was willing to lend her a helping hand while she was at it.
"Mhm!" Yun Chu smiled. A smile that could topple cities.
She walked over and joined Yun Buliu and his disciple to treat the remaining plants.
Su Tan was left speechless. He shook his head. Three perfectly fine people... how did they end up like this?
The trio worked for the entire morning.
By noon, Yun Buliu asked, "Master, what are you trying to do? Are you going to cook? Hehe... to be honest with you, Master, your grand-disciple is an excellent cook. Why don’t you try her cooking today?"
Su Tan did indeed want to cook.
"Your disciple knows you like to cook and that it is a hobby of yours. But occasionally, you can also try something new," Yun Buliu added.
"That’s right, Grandmaster, let me cook for you. Back when I was trying to get my master to take me in, your grand-disciple studied the culinary arts for a very, very long time. Let me make you a feast today," Shangguan Xiu’Er volunteered.
Before Su Tan could even open his mouth, Shangguan Xiu’Er was already moving with deft hands, drawing water.
"Grandmaster, you just rest. Leave everything to me," Shangguan Xiu’Er said, waving her hand. "Chuer, come help me out quickly."
"Alright..." Yun Chu still replied with a single word. The very image of a quiet, introverted eldest daughter.
An expert in the King Realm and the two most elusive Alchemists in Celestial Fragrance were currently fighting to do chores for Su Tan.
"Master, come sit. Your disciple will brew you some tea. As you know, your disciple studies Alchemy Skill, and brewing tea is quite similar to refining medicine. Within the borders of Celestial Fragrance, your disciple’s tea-brewing skills are second to none," Yun Buliu said.
Sitting at the table, Su Tan drank his tea.
Before long, the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen. Whether it was because Su Tan was hungry or because the two girls truly had exceptional culinary skills, the smell was incredible. It made his mouth water.
"Here it comes!" Shangguan Xiu’Er announced as she brought the dishes over to Su Tan, one by one. "Grandmaster, the food is ready! Try this swimming shrimp and steamed dragon bass made by your grand-disciple..."
"Please enjoy, Grandmaster," Shangguan Xiu’Er said as she scooped him a bowl of rice and handed him chopsticks. "Eat this fish. My master and I caught the ingredients the last time we passed the Youlong River, and I prepared the seasonings myself."
Shangguan Xiu’Er served some food into Su Tan’s bowl.
Su Tan felt like a wealthy lord. Truth be told, being waited on like this actually felt pretty damn good. No wonder so many people wanted to stand at the pinnacle of society.
He took a bite.
It really was delicious. The fish melted in his mouth, its unique flavor seemingly bursting on his palate.
Delicious!
Su Tan’s expression brightened. This was the best thing he had eaten in his entire life...
Was this the true culinary arts of a Fantasy World? So the food in this world was actually this tasty. Compared to this, what kind of garbage had he been making before? His cooking was practically inedible!
Seeing that Su Tan seemed to like the dish, Shangguan Xiu’Er’s anxious heart finally settled.
"You guys sit down and eat too," Su Tan said.
"No, no, Master, you eat. We’ll go back and eat by ourselves later." No matter how much Su Tan urged them, they refused to sit down.
"Mr. Su, my dish is ready too," Yun Chu said, bringing out the final dish. The grand finale. It was one of Yun Chu’s specialties.
"Grandmaster, Chuer’s culinary skills are much better than Xiu’Er’s. Much of what your grand-disciple knows was learned from her," Shangguan Xiu’Er praised. "Aside from cultivating, Chuer only does two things with utmost dedication: reading and cooking. She says these are the only two things that can bring her peace."
They had Storage Bags, so they basically brought their own ingredients. There were also some seasonings that were absolutely impossible for Village Chief Chen to buy.
This meal was truly delicious.
