Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Attacks in the Rear

Fire, ice, wind, lightning and countless other elemental arts shot toward the incoming beasts.

But the attacks were no longer as coordinated as before.

Some were too weak to kill the beasts, while others missed their targets entirely. The defensive barriers flickered under the constant impact, and several sections began to crack.

"Hold the line!"

"Don’t let them through!"

The shouts continued, but even the people giving the orders were beginning to lose hope.

The tide of beasts stretched far beyond what they could see. Every time they managed to kill a group, more rushed forward to take their place.

And now, their strength was almost gone.

Kane raised his hand, forcing the last traces of Purple Storm Lightning to gather around his body.

His Spirit Beast let out a strained roar beside him, but even it was struggling to remain upright.

Just a little longer.

He didn’t know how much longer he could keep going, but he was determined to give everything he had.

Then, just as the beasts were about to crash against the weakened defenses, a tremendous explosion erupted from far behind the tide.

BOOM!

The ground trembled.

Several elemental users instinctively turned their heads, but before they could understand what had happened, another explosion followed.

BOOM! BOOM!

The sounds came one after another, growing louder as they spread across the battlefield.

Something was attacking the beasts from behind.

And it wasn’t just a single elemental art.

A powerful gust of wind swept through the battlefield, carrying traces of lightning and ice. The distant sky flashed with brilliant light as enormous attacks tore through the beast tide.

A massive explosion swallowed a group of monsters, while sharp streaks of lightning raced across the ground and struck everything in their path.

At the same time, enormous ice spears descended from above, piercing through the beasts and freezing the ground around them.

The attacks were moving at an incredible speed.

Wherever they landed, the beasts were wiped out before they could react. Some were pierced by ice, others were torn apart by lightning, while the wind swept through entire groups with enough force to send their bodies tumbling across the ground.

The elemental users at the frontline stared in disbelief.

"What... is that?"

"Someone’s attacking them from behind!"

"How many people are there?"

Even Kane was momentarily stunned.

He had seen powerful elemental users before, and he knew just how destructive high-ranking arts could be. But the attacks coming from behind the beast tide were different.

They were too frequent, too precise, and far too destructive to be the work of an ordinary group.

Another series of explosions shook the battlefield.

The beasts reacted almost immediately.

Some of the monsters at the rear turned around and charged toward the source of the attacks, while others scattered in confusion. The sudden threat disrupted their advance, and a portion of the tide began moving away from the frontline.

The pressure on the human defenses eased.

It wasn’t enough to stop the entire swarm, but it gave the exhausted elemental users some much-needed breathing room.

"Everyone! Reinforce the western formation!"

An elder quickly took advantage of the opening.

"Don’t just stand there! Use this chance to restore the barriers!"

The elemental users immediately followed his orders. Those who still had Aether left began reinforcing the damaged defenses, while the injured were pulled away from the frontline.

Kane also took a moment to steady his breathing.

He looked toward the distant explosions, trying to make out the figures responsible for such overwhelming attacks.

But the beast tide was too dense, and the distance was too great.

He could only see flashes of different elemental energies cutting through the monsters.

"Could it be a reinforcement group?" someone asked.

"With this kind of strength?"

Another elemental user shook his head.

"Even the strongest groups in the city shouldn’t be able to tear through the tide so easily."

Kane remained silent.

He didn’t know who had arrived, but whoever they were, they had given them a chance to survive.

"Report this to the higher-ups!" he ordered. "Tell them we’re receiving support from the rear. We need to know who they are and how many people have arrived."

An elemental user quickly rushed away to deliver the message.

Meanwhile, the remaining defenders continued fighting, their morale gradually recovering as they watched the distant attacks.

Even Kane returned to the battle, though he was now more careful with his remaining strength.

He still had to hold the line.

Inside the command area, the elders and representatives were equally shocked by the sudden development.

"What did you say? Someone is attacking the beasts from behind?"

"Yes, Elder. The attacks are coming from the rear of the tide. We’ve confirmed traces of wind, lightning and ice."

"Wind, lightning and ice?"

The elders exchanged glances.

The combination was unusual, and none of them could immediately identify the group responsible.

"Could it be the Winterbourne family?" one elder suggested.

But one of the representatives who had returned from Frostveil Expanse immediately shook his head.

"That is unlikely. The attacks aren’t limited to ice. There are also powerful wind and lightning arts."

The representative paused, his expression growing complicated.

He couldn’t help thinking about the person who had stabilized Frostveil Expanse, but he quickly dismissed the thought.

Damon?

The idea seemed ridiculous.

Although they had heard stories of Damon’s achievements, the representatives still struggled to accept that he could possess the strength needed to tear through such a massive tide of beasts.

And even if he could, how could he possibly wield so many elements? Or an element even.

One of the elders frowned.

"Could it be another family? Perhaps a group from one of the nearby strongholds?"

"We don’t have enough information to say."

The representatives remained quiet.

A small possibility had crossed their minds, but none of them dared to mention it.

The thought of him arriving here and displaying such overwhelming strength was something they could hardly accept.

They had seen him as a failure for so long that imagining him as the one leading this reinforcement felt almost impossible.
