Chapter 146: Gravity
Chapter 146: Gravity
"Hmm?" The gym trainer looked stunned. "Why?"
There were simply too many strange things about Leon, and the trainer had no intention of dealing with him any more than necessary.
After the target dummy had been destroyed, he hadn’t left the testing room just to prepare another chamber. He had also contacted the owner of the facility and reported the incident to the Hunter Association.
What surprised him even more was what happened next.
The moment he finished explaining the situation, the person on the other end from the Hunter Association immediately asked whether the student who had destroyed the target dummy despite not having an awakened class was named Leon Bale.
The question caught him completely off guard.
So the Hunter Association already knew about Leon’s existence.
Not only that, he had been instructed by the Association to stop Leon from performing any further tests in front of the other students and simply mark him as having passed.
Everything had gone according to those instructions.
Yet here Leon was...
Asking to take the fourth test anyway.
’Should I let him try?’ the gym trainer wondered. ’I want to know what’s going on too. The Hunter Association not only knows about him, but they also seem unusually protective of him. A boy whom the mana meter couldn’t assess, yet someone capable of displaying strength comparable to at least an A-Class Knight. Something is definitely suspicious.’
"Alright," he finally said. "Go stand in the center. I’ll start with 2G."
Leon shook his head. "No, sir. Please start with 10G."
Leon could already endure 5G for one minute when he had just awakened and was an F-Class knight. But now? Now he was A-class. His defence had risen from under ten to over seventy. 10G? That was being considerate, as he didn’t want to look arrogant, but starting with 2G would definitely waste more time.
"What?" Meanwhile, the trainer froze.
’Has he lost his mind? Does he think strength and durability are the same thing? Is he planning to punch gravity away?’
Most Awakeners possessed only one specialization. Some excelled in offense, others in defense, while some specialized in healing.
Even those with multiple affinities or abilities usually remained within the same category.
Emily Flemming, for example. Although she wielded both fire magic and swordsmanship, both were offensive abilities.
But Leon...
He was asking to start at 10G — ten times Earth’s normal gravity. Only a tank-type awakener of at least D-Class could hope to survive such pressure.
As for everyone else... The chance wasn’t merely low. It was zero.
The trainer had already witnessed Leon’s monstrous physical strength, but he refused to believe Leon also possessed equally terrifying endurance.
At least...
Not until what was about to happen.
"I’ll be the judge of that." The trainer said.
Leon simply sighed and walked to the center of the gravity circle.
The trainer raised the tablet in his hand and pressed the activation button. Instantly, emerald light descended from the ceiling, enveloping the gravity circle.
Leon felt a slight heaviness settle over his body.
Only slightly.
The display on the tablet lit up.
[2G]
The trainer frowned. ’Is the machine malfunctioning?’
Leon looked as though he wasn’t under any pressure at all.
He turned the dial on the side of the tablet.
[2G > 3G]
Nothing.
He continued increasing the gravity.
5G...
10G...
The trainer’s expression gradually became serious.
15G...
20G...
Leon remained standing calmly, as though the increasing gravity didn’t exist.
25G...
Still nothing.
Frowning deeply, the trainer walked toward the gravity circle. He wanted to see what was going on. However, the moment he came within two meters of it, his knees buckled.
Although the gravity field was concentrated within the circle, a small amount still leaked into the surrounding area.
That alone was enough.
Enough for the trainer to realize...
The machine wasn’t malfunctioning.
Leon was.
His face turned pale. He immediately retreated.
Ten meters.
Twenty meters. Then he stopped.
His gaze had never left Leon.
Slowly, he raised the tablet again. This time, he didn’t even bother looking at the display.
Instead, his eyes remained fixed on Leon, ready to stop the test the instant he showed any sign of reaching his limit.
But that moment never came.
Not yet.
The trainer continued turning the dial.
30G...
40G...
50G...
Seconds passed.
Nearly a minute went by.
At last, a trace of discomfort appeared on Leon’s face.
Only a trace.
The trainer finally glanced down at the display.
His eyes widened.
72G!
For a moment, he wondered if he was hallucinating.
He looked at the tablet. Then at Leon.
Back at the tablet. Then Leon again.
He swallowed hard before slowly turning the dial once more.
75G...
80G...
83G...
Finally...
At 84G, Leon’s jaw tightened slightly.
At the same moment, the translucent panel, which only he could see, shimmered before his eyes.
[Host is under extreme gravity.]
[Gravity Resistance has increased slightly.]
[Gravity Resistance: 0.2%]
A smile spread across Leon’s lips as he read the glowing notifications.
’Finally...’ he thought. ’It actually worked.’
90G.
Sweat began forming on Leon’s forehead.
95G.
His legs started trembling ever so slightly.
96G.
His knees buckled for a brief moment, but he quickly steadied himself, gritting his teeth.
The trainer immediately noticed. "That’s enough. I’m stopping it."
He had become far too nervous. Under normal circumstances, such slight trembling was common during a gravity test. But after everything Leon had already shown, he didn’t dare take any risks.
"Don’t!" Leon shouted. "I’ll tell you when I can’t take it anymore. Please don’t stop until I say so."
The trainer hesitated. His expression was conflicted. In the end, however, he didn’t stop the test.
Whether it was because he trusted Leon’s judgment or simply wanted to see his true limit, even he wasn’t sure.
100G...
110G...
Leon clenched his teeth and endured.
One notification after another appeared before his eyes.
[Gravity Resistance has increased slightly.]
[Gravity Resistance: 1.9%]
[Gravity Resistance: 2.3%]
[Gravity Resistance: 3.1%]
120G.
That was the machine’s maximum output.
[Gravity Resistance: 4.8%]
The gravity could increase no further.
Likewise, Leon’s Gravity Resistance stopped rising at 4.8%.
"That’s the machine’s limit, kid," the trainer said. "If you want to experience stronger gravity, you’ll have to visit a high-end gym or the Hunter Association."
Inwardly, however, he couldn’t help but think, ’What a monster...’
Meanwhile, Leon...
"Yeah... I really need to visit the Hunter Association tomorrow," he murmured.
