Chapter 167: Chapter 166: [Just Do It and Get It Over With]
"Missy, are you ready? I’m coming for you, and you better be able to take it. Otherwise, it won’t be nearly as fun for me!" He Xiaotian’s words made everyone present roll their eyes. ’We suspect this guy is making a dirty joke, but we have no proof.’
"Wait, we can discuss the price." The female voice came from the paper palanquin again. Her tone was no longer high and mighty, no longer holding all the cards. Instead, she sounded ready to bargain, as if acknowledging that He Xiaotian had earned the right to negotiate with her.
In truth, for a wealthy family of Papermen, any problem that could be solved with Spiritual Energy Crystals wasn’t a problem at all.
If they could avoid a fight, they absolutely would.
Unfortunately, what kind of person was He Xiaotian?
A brute through and through!
Negotiation?
Not a chance. Just fight.
Either I kill you, or you kill me.
No negotiations!
"Negotiate my ass!"
The words had barely faded when the cannonball shot forth again.
The bluestone floorboards shattered, mercilessly crushed into dust in an instant.
Wherever He Xiaotian passed, the earth churned and rolled to either side.
Like an enraged primordial bull, he carved a deep trench in the ground.
Shouyangzi snapped back to reality, his face a mask of utter despair.
’Damn it all!’
’My temple!’
’How much is this going to cost to repair?’
GULP.
The She Dao Ren and Feng Yu swallowed hard.
The two of them were still reeling from the shock of He Xiaotian’s frenzied fighting style.
Although the energy tide had begun more than half a year ago, aside from those few chosen ones favored by the heavens, they had never heard of anyone whose power grew so astonishingly fast.
For a moment, they suspected that this He Xiaotian fellow was the heir of some great power.
Because only a few extremely ancient organizations had possessed Netherworld Fissures a century ago.
That’s right.
Netherworld Fissures had appeared a century ago, but they were nothing compared to the ones today.
The She Dao Ren had learned from his master that a hundred years ago, the largest Netherworld Fissure was merely the width of a thumb.
Most were just finger-sized holes, and the gloomy qi that spewed out was pitifully scarce.
While it could aid a person’s training, the amount of energy was just too small.
If you were to compare them, ten days of training in front of a fissure back then wouldn’t even measure up to three days of training in any random spot today.
And that was to say nothing of the human-sized, or even larger, Netherworld Fissures of the present.
The two of them never even considered the possibility that He Xiaotian was basically using a cheat code.
Because that explanation was even more goddamn ridiculous than their own wild guesses.
The four Golden Boys and Jade Maidens could only do their best to evade He Xiaotian’s furious assault.
Perhaps because they were paper effigies, they were exceptionally light.
They managed to dodge the sweeping blows of his two great hammers at every critical moment.
SWOOSH!
An iron hammer went flying, the spikes on its head flashing with a sinister cold light under the moon.
The paper palanquin leaped into the air, dodging it once more.
BOOM!
At the same time, the other iron hammer came hurtling down from above.
The killing blow descended in that very instant!
The first hammer had just been a feint.
It was to force them into the air, where they would have no leverage and no way to dodge.
Just like the Netherworld Martial Artist who had met a grisly end on Huayang Road, it was a one-hit headshot!
Seeing this, the frozen expressions on the four Golden Boys and Jade Maidens twisted in horror.
Then, one of them actually flew forward, intending to intercept the hammer with its own body.
CLANG!!
"Huh?" He Xiaotian felt as if his hammer had struck hundred-times-forged steel.
A pity, then, that even thousand-times-forged steel...
...was as fragile as a sheet of paper before a force of over 80,000 jin.
BOOM!!
The great hammer tore the paper effigy to shreds, and a thick black gas billowed out from within it.
In the blink of an eye, it filled the entire meditation room and courtyard.
The moonlight was blotted out, and it became so dark you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.
[Ding! You have killed an Exquisite Golden Boy. You have gained 1200 Experience Points.]
He Xiaotian’s 30-point Spiritual Power surged outward, blanketing the courtyard.
Behind him, a paper effigy with heavy, garish makeup, holding a pair of paper scissors, floated silently up and snipped at his neck.
CLANG!
The sound of metal striking metal erupted, and sparks flew between the two.
He Xiaotian turned his head and grinned at the paper effigy. "Your scissors aren’t sharp enough!"
Before the paper effigy could react, a massive, blood-colored hammer flew out of the darkness.
With a CRASH, it smashed the effigy into a pile of paper scraps.
[Ding! You have killed an Exquisite Jade Maiden. You have gained 1200 Experience Points.]
The darkness grew even thicker.
This was the same hammer he had used as a feint; with a slight mental tug from He Xiaotian, it flew back to him.
’Interesting. Paper scissors that are just like the real thing. This Paperman is getting more and more interesting.’ This trip to Shee Mountain was certainly showing He Xiaotian the special professions that existed in Hua Country.
First, there was the She Dao Ren, whose founder was rumored to be the Ghost Valley Master, then the descendants of executioners.
And today, there was a man who could wear human skin as a disguise, though it was a shame he didn’t know that man’s profession.
"How about we call a truce? We can split the energy tide from the Netherworld Fissure fifty-fifty." The Paper Palanquin Master’s voice rang out from the darkness. She was backing down. She had to admit that He Xiaotian’s strength was simply too formidable, leaving her with no other option.
In the past, her paper effigies had been invincible.
Many of her rivals had died at the hands of these four personal attendants.
But He Xiaotian’s strength was too immense. A single casual blow from his hammer...
...was enough to mercilessly obliterate them, despite their astonishing durability.
What’s more, the man’s own body was even tougher than her paper effigies.
The Paper Palanquin Master even suspected that He Xiaotian wasn’t human at all, but merely the disguise of some unknown monstrosity.
"Alright. Why don’t you come on out?"
He Xiaotian agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
"..."
’Who the hell do you think you’re kidding?!’
’He agreed without even thinking about it.’
’If I believed him, I’d be a complete idiot!’
The She Dao Ren and Feng Yu were trembling uncontrollably.
The reason was simple: the paper palanquin was right behind them.
If not for the golden light protecting them, they would have wished they could shrink down and disappear into the earth’s core.
What if He Xiaotian’s hand slipped and a hammer came crashing down on their heads?
The thought was too terrifying to contemplate.
At some point, the two remaining paper effigies by the palanquin had produced two longbows.
They too, of course, were made of paper.
The paper arrows nocked on them pulsed with black mist.
They seemed to be charging power, ready to reveal their fangs and deliver a killing blow the moment they were loosed.
No one noticed that on the courtyard wall, a human head was watching the battle with rapt attention.
That’s right. A human head.
SWISH! SWISH!
A faint whistling sound cut through the air. He Xiaotian’s eyes flashed with golden light.
The instant the paper effigies released their bowstrings, the paper arrows were already at the back of his head.
And then the guy ducked.
The arrows whistled past.
The eyes of the head on the courtyard wall went wide.
’Why are they coming for me?!’
Without a second to think, it opened its mouth and, in the instant the arrows flew in, chomped down hard.
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
The arrows were instantly chewed to bits.
*URP!*
After eating, the head actually let out a satisfied burp?
