Chapter 172: Chapter 117: Not a Single Discount on the Fabric
Soon after, Lin Muxue returned, looking utterly indignant. Her expression was murderous.
’Dancing once and posting it for a single day would have been fine,’ she fumed internally.
But now, she had to dance three times and post the videos over three days.
President Zhang had clearly planned this whole scheme, and she had walked right into his trap, even raising the stakes herself.
Zhang Lin, clearly aware his tactics were less than honorable, quickly adopted a righteous tone. "Senior Sister, I’ve been thinking. We’re a farm account, so it’s probably not a good idea to post videos of that kind of dance back-to-back. To avoid accusations that we’re using low-brow, suggestive content for publicity, you should just dance once and we’ll post it for one day!"
Lin Muxue couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "President Zhang, you’re such a good boss. I can’t thank you enough!"
However, she quickly turned to the other women. "Does anyone want to go back in and give it a try with me? We have the complete map, let’s see if you can find your way out!"
As the project director, she felt she had to test it herself.
Only if the others truly couldn’t find their way out, even with the map, would she feel comfortable executing President Zhang’s plan and releasing it to the public.
’I’m getting paid for this, so I have to be responsible.’
The other women, including Zhong Miaoying, all looked interested. They each took a photo of the map and filed into the Bamboo Maze.
Zhang Lin, of course, knew what Lin Muxue was thinking. It was a good thing his senior sister was so responsible.
Seeing the women head into the Bamboo Maze, he hopped on his scooter and rode back to the office building.
As soon as he got to his office, he received a phone call.
The caller ID read: President Liu, Car Dealership.
This was the dealer Huang Tao had introduced him to when he bought the cars earlier.
He had ordered two vehicles from him: the commercial van that Lin Muxue and her team were already using, and a Mercedes S-Class.
’The Mercedes S-Class he’d ordered must have arrived.’
Sure enough, as soon as the call connected, President Liu’s voice came through. "President Zhang, the Mercedes S-Class you ordered has arrived. We can get the paperwork sorted out tomorrow morning. I’ll contact you then."
"Thanks, President Liu. I appreciate it," Zhang Lin replied with a smile.
After hanging up, he turned on his computer to check on the farm’s status and see if there were any areas that needed improvement.
Not long after, Lin Muxue and Zhong Miaoying entered the office together.
He could see that his new, introverted secretary was getting along well with his senior sister.
Apparently, his senior sister had also noticed Zhong Miaoying’s introverted tendencies and had been taking the lead in their conversation.
’With introverts, if you don’t take the initiative to start a topic, they often don’t know what to say, and the conversation can easily stall.’
Seeing Zhang Lin, Lin Muxue said, "Out of the group with Fu Yao, Miaoying, and Mengyao, only two people made it through. It seems you were right—not everyone can clear it even with the complete map. So, I’ll go ahead and get the plan in motion."
Zhang Lin reminded her with a smile, "That’s not important, Senior Sister. Just remember to do your dance!"
When she heard him bring that up specifically, Lin Muxue sighed. "A bet’s a bet."
Zhong Miaoying subconsciously glanced at Lin Muxue. She had already seen the video of the provocative dance on Liu Qian’s phone and couldn’t believe Director Lin was actually going to perform it.
’If it were me,’ she thought, ’I’d be embarrassed just watching that video, let alone performing it.’
An introvert like her truly envied Director Lin’s courage.
The day passed quickly. As the sun set, Zhong Miaoying finished her first day of work. She changed back into a white t-shirt and jeans. When she got home, she found that her mother had already prepared dinner and her father was watching TV, waiting for her.
"You’re home? Let’s eat!" Zhong Lei said with a smile, seeing his daughter return.
"Mhm!" Zhong Miaoying nodded.
After a few bites, Zhong Lei asked, "Miaoying, how was your day at Li Yuan Farm?"
"Thank you, Dad!" Zhong Miaoying said first, before continuing, "The atmosphere at the farm is great, and President Zhang is very nice. He’s not arrogant at all. Dad, President Zhang appointed me as the manager of the secretarial office. Thank you!"
She thanked her father again.
She wasn’t stupid. She knew that without her father, why would anyone give a recent college graduate like her such an opportunity?
So, she was determined to cherish this chance.
Zhong Lei was taken aback when he heard her title. He had made some inquiries; he was fairly certain Li Yuan Farm didn’t have a secretarial department.
But he wasn’t slow on the uptake, either. He immediately understood President Zhang’s thoughtful gesture.
He knew his daughter’s personality challenges. If she were assigned to a real project, she might mess it up, blame herself, and become completely lost.
This position, however, would prevent that from happening.
After dinner, Zhong Lei went to his room and dialed Zhang Lin’s number.
President Zhang had been very considerate, and he felt he should express his gratitude.
When Zhang Lin saw the call was from Director Zhong, he answered immediately. "Director Zhong, perfect timing. I was just about to hop in the shower; I would’ve missed your call in another minute."
Zhong Lei chuckled. "Then my timing really is good. I’m calling mainly to thank you for the arrangements you made for Miaoying. By appointing her as manager of the secretarial office, I assume you’ve noticed her personality quirks."
Zhang Lin laughed. "Director Zhong, it’s no big deal. You didn’t have to call me specially for this!"
"I owe you one, President Zhang," Zhong Lei insisted, then added a request. "But I’d still like to trouble you to, when appropriate, give her some tasks that involve interacting with people. Let her have a chance to slowly work on it."
"Don’t worry, Director Zhong," Zhang Lin readily agreed with a smile.
Although he’d only known her for half a day, he could already tell that Zhong Miaoying was a good person. Still, it wasn’t surprising that Director Zhong would make this call. After all, a parent’s heart is always full of concern for their child.
