I Carry a Game World With Me

Chapter 113 - 112: Is This a Dream?

Chapter 113: Chapter 112: Is This a Dream?

The faceplate on Lu Feng’s mecha retracted, and he looked over at Lin Jiao and her group. "Is everyone all right?"

"Boss, we still need a moment to recover," Lin Jiao said, breathing a sigh of relief now that their enemies were dead.

The people from Qingfeng Base didn’t have Lu Feng’s physique, so it took them a while to recover. Once they did, they scrambled to retrieve their weapons.

Lin Jiao, Chen Tao, and Chen Hao retrieved their laser rifles as well.

"Secure the area and confiscate all their weapons," Lin Jiao immediately commanded. Though the Boss had wiped them out, they’d left behind a good deal of weaponry.

After giving the order, she immediately led a team to the tank. She had someone crawl inside, and a moment later, a man was dragged out.

The man was still weak and hadn’t recovered from the effects of the Vibration Bomb, as were the few others who had been around the tank.

Of course, they were all promptly fitted with electronic shackles.

A short while later, a team member ran over. "Boss, we found a holographic tablet and a controller in their vehicle!"

Lu Feng examined them and realized it was the controller for the electronic shackles. It was connected to the holographic tablet, which displayed a list of all the survivors currently bound by them.

There were quite a few of them—over 200 in total.

In other words, the Sister and Brother Thieves’ Gang was holding more than 200 survivors captive, all of them restrained by electronic shackles.

At this thought, Lu Feng immediately ordered Lin Jiao, "Scout the area. The people on this list are still alive, which means the gang might be holding more survivors nearby."

Lin Jiao, who trusted her boss implicitly, immediately led a team to inspect the enemy’s Vibration Bomb tank.

Tanks of this type were equipped with auxiliary systems. If the data hadn’t been intentionally wiped, its system would still contain a record of its recent route.

A quick search might turn up a lead.

Sure enough, Lin Jiao returned a short time later. "Boss, we’ve got something. The tank’s route log shows it stopped for a while at a small plaza not far from here. They were probably regrouping there!"

"Let’s go," Lu Feng said, immediately breaking into a run in his mecha.

While the mecha couldn’t make him fly like Iron Man, it didn’t impede his ability to run and walk at all, thanks to its special internal mechanical frame and power system.

Lin Jiao saw this and immediately led her team in pursuit.

In a small plaza, a squad from the Sister and Brother Thieves’ Gang stood guard, weapons in hand, watching a group of survivors huddled on the ground.

The survivors already knew who this gang was and what awaited them. They were going to be sold as slaves.

But with electronic shackles locked around their necks, they were utterly powerless to resist.

Because of the shackles, the gang members paid the survivors little mind. If anyone dared to cause trouble, the controller in their leader’s hand could activate the shackles and kill them instantly.

"Well now, this one’s a cutie!" one of the gang members said, his eyes locking onto a young girl among the survivors. He grinned and started walking toward her, causing the color to drain from her face.

But just then, a heavy metallic sound rang out, followed by the thunder of approaching footsteps.

The man stopped, a look of pleasant surprise on his face. "Is that the boss and the others, back already?"

But when he turned his head, he saw a figure completely encased in a mecha, followed by a group of unfamiliar people.

"Shit, it’s enemies—" The man’s cry of alarm was cut short. The words had barely left his lips when a laser beam struck him, and he slowly crumpled to the ground.

The other members of the Sister and Brother Thieves’ Gang were stunned by this turn of events.

They instinctively raised their weapons, but a volley of laser blasts and gunfire erupted, and they all fell to the ground.

The survivors, terrified, had all thrown themselves to the ground. They only dared to raise their heads after the gunfire ceased, staring at the group that had suddenly appeared.

They couldn’t help but feel a surge of anxiety.

Everyone understood what this scene meant: the ones who controlled their fate had changed. But whether this was a good thing or a bad thing, none of them knew.

Lu Feng looked over at the survivors, the control device still in his hand.

The survivors immediately recognized it. It was the controller that the she-devil of a leader had used to control them.

The survivors surrounding him looked at Lu Feng, their eyes filled with undeniable fear.

In other words, the master of their fates was now this man in the mecha suit.

"I imagine you all understand the situation now," Lu Feng said to the survivors, before turning to Lin Jiao. "Take them all back to the base. We happen to be short-handed for construction."

"Yes, Boss!" Lin Jiao nodded. She waved to the Qingfeng Base team, who advanced with their weapons and began shouting at the survivors.

"All of you, get up! You’re coming with us!"

"Hurry up! Don’t dawdle!"

The survivors didn’t dare hesitate, meekly following the people from Qingfeng Base out of the small plaza.

Since the Sister and Brother Thieves’ Gang’s hover truck was still there, they could use it to transport all the survivors.

A short time later, the group was headed back to Qingfeng Base. As they approached the base’s perimeter, they were spotted by a Hidden Guard.

Xu Bin and Guo Zhen, who had remained at the base, had already received word and were waiting at the gate with a reception party.

As soon as Lu Feng’s group arrived, the main gate swung open, and the two hover trucks drove into Zhuangyuan District.

Naturally, the arrival of over 200 new survivors drew the attention of the base’s residents.

After getting out of the vehicle, Lin Jiao went straight to Guo Zhen and gave her orders. "Get these people familiarized with the base, then find roles for them. The ones who are fit for combat will be assigned to a combat team."

"Understood, Conductor Lin." Guo Zhen nodded. He walked over to the survivors and barked, "All of you, with me!"

The survivors watched Guo Zhen with trepidation. His fat frame might have been ugly, but it was undeniably intimidating.

The survivors all meekly followed Guo Zhen into the air-raid shelter.

Inside, they saw many other survivors who, just like them, wore electronic shackles.

To their astonishment, however, these other survivors were all working hard. They showed no trace of fear or dissatisfaction; in fact, they were all working with great vigor.

’This is all wrong!’

’We’re all slaves. No slave should have this much passion for work.’

Just then, a bell rang, its sound echoing throughout the air-raid shelter.

It was the end-of-work bell. It also signaled that it was time to eat, which was the happiest moment of the day for the survivors.

Seeing this, Guo Zhen smiled at the 200-plus new survivors. "You’re all in luck. You arrived at the base just in time for dinner."

As he spoke, he raised a walkie-talkie to his mouth. "Add enough for two hundred more people to this meal."

The new survivors were stunned. ’Extra for two hundred people... is that for us?’

’How could that be possible?’

In this post-apocalyptic world, no one was this kind to slaves. You were lucky if you got a scrap of food after a day of starvation. The gang that captured them had only given them the bare minimum to keep them alive each day.

But then, barrel after barrel of glistening, jade-like white rice was brought out. Seeing the other survivors happily lining up, each filling their bowl to the brim, the newcomers were left completely dumbfounded.

Especially when Guo Zhen waved them over, telling them to grab their own bowls and get in line.

’This can’t be happening.’

’Are we dreaming?’
