Chapter 151: Chapter 144: An Endless Stream of Experience! Attracting Envy
A smile appeared on Lu Feng’s face as he watched the constant stream of experience notifications in his mind.
With this trap, he could continuously gain experience even when he wasn’t personally here.
Soon, a thick layer of body parts slid down and piled up at the bottom of the ramp. The quantity quickly grew to be too much.
Cleaning up the body parts, however, was a problem.
If the number of bodies got too high, they would clog the trap.
He turned to Lin Jiao and asked, "Lin Jiao, how are the bodies usually disposed of?"
Lin Jiao immediately explained, "There are three methods. If they’re far from the living areas, we just dump them and let them rot. Some Mutant Beasts will come and feed on them. If they’re close to the living areas, we either bury them or use them to fuel the incinerators."
"Not every base has an abundant energy supply. For a base to survive in the post-apocalyptic world, incineration is another source of power. After all, pre-apocalypse technology exists that can generate energy from burning zombies while also destroying the zombie virus."
"However, under normal circumstances, the cost of specifically killing zombies and transporting them back for incineration is too high. Between the personnel losses, transportation costs, and the expenditure on guns and ammunition, it’s just not worth it."
"But now that the Boss has created this mechanical trap, it’s a different story. We just need to get one of those incineration power facilities running at Red Leaf Base."
"The energy generated from burning the zombies can be stored in energy storage units and then used to power factories, supply electricity to the base... things like that."
Lu Feng understood. ’They’re basically burning zombies for firewood.’
In the real world, corpses are normally very difficult to incinerate. It requires extremely high temperatures; otherwise, the energy consumed to burn a body would exceed the energy it produces.
But things are different in this post-apocalyptic world. They have more advanced technology. Besides, you don’t have to burn the zombies one by one; you can incinerate many at once.
It was like the real-world principle of small profits and high volume.
If you sell just one of something, the profit margin is so thin you might lose money after factoring in labor, utilities, and other costs.
But if you sell ten thousand, or a hundred thousand, it’s a different story. You could make a hefty profit.
Burning zombie corpses was the same, as long as you had enough of them.
With this in mind, Lu Feng asked, "Is there anywhere we can find one of these incineration power facilities?"
Before Lin Jiao could answer, a survivor who was originally from Red Leaf Base reported, "Mr. Lu, Red Leaf Base has facilities just like that. Several of them, in fact. That’s how Red Leaf Base used to get all its power."
Lu Feng smiled when he heard that. ’What a perfect coincidence.’
Lin Jiao immediately said to the man, "Take me to see them!"
"Yes, Conductor Lin," the man said with a nod, and then led Lin Jiao toward a location within Red Leaf Base.
A short while later, Lin Jiao returned with a team, driving a special type of garbage truck.
There were three in total.
As soon as she stepped out of the vehicle, she ordered, "Hurry up and grab your tools! Load these zombie parts into the trucks."
Hearing the command, the people nearby rushed to grab tools and began loading the zombie remains into the garbage trucks.
As zombies were continuously being shredded, one of the filled garbage trucks was driven into Red Leaf Base.
And so, the zombie-shredding trap created a perfect, self-sustaining cycle.
The zombies around Red Leaf Base would soon be completely cleared out.
’When that time comes, I’ll have to think about how to attract more zombies. I need to keep this easy stream of experience points flowing for as long as possible.’
Thinking this, Lu Feng instructed Lin Jiao, "Once the zombies around Red Leaf Base are nearly cleared out, remember to go to the surrounding areas and lure more over. At the very least, let’s clear out all the zombies around our Qingfeng Base. It’ll give us a much larger safe zone to live in."
"Yes, Boss!" Lin Jiao nodded. As long as they had a way to dispose of the zombies, attracting them wasn’t hard. All they had to do was make some noise, and they could easily draw in an entire zombie horde.
As they were speaking, a nearby survivor shouted, "Boss, Conductor Lin, we’ve got mutant zombies!"
Lu Feng looked in the direction the man was pointing and saw two bloated zombies charging in.
This made him frown. ’This mechanical trap is extremely effective against regular zombies, but it’ll probably have trouble with mutants. After all, mutant zombies are smarter; they might figure out a way to destroy it.’
’Especially these bloated ones. They’re much stronger. If one of them picks up something heavy and smashes it against the mechanism, it could be destroyed.’
At this thought, Lu Feng willed the steel blade from his inventory space into his hand and charged straight for the two bloated zombies.
The regular zombies noticed him, and a dense flurry of hands slapped at his body.
But protected by his energy barrier, the zombies couldn’t harm him in the slightest. He calmly strode through them, arriving in front of the two bloated zombies.
The two bloated zombies saw him and attacked instinctively, but in the next instant, they lost sight of him. With his enhanced speed, the lumbering zombies couldn’t keep up at all.
After leveling up twice in a row, his speed was clearly much faster.
He appeared behind one of the bloated zombies and, with a single slash, lopped its head clean off.
