I Collect Skill Fragments in the Demon World
Chapter 1164 792: Farewell to Bai Cang
The soldiers never hid the disdain in their voices, nor the air of superiority.
Chen Ping's face twisted and struggled upon hearing this, his fists clenched tightly within his sleeves; the opponent was threatening the very existence of the Dragon Tiger Escort Agency.
As the situation became increasingly dire, suddenly a voice came from afar: "Why must the general be so aggressive? Why not give this old man some face and let the matter rest?"
A carriage approached, and Zhou Qiucheng drew back the curtain to peer out.
"Who are you to meddle in my affairs?" the general asked, glancing at Zhou Qiucheng.
"I am Zhou Qiucheng," Zhou Qiucheng replied unhurriedly.
Though he had lost his cultivation, he remained a noble of the Great Victory Dynasty, with disciples and former officials spread throughout the world.
"You are Mr. Zhou Qiucheng?" The general's face changed dramatically upon hearing this, hastily dismounted, a trace of restraint in his voice.
Zhou Qiucheng was famous throughout the world; even if he failed to discuss the Dao, his status plummeted, he was not someone to provoke lightly.
Zhou Qiucheng smiled upon hearing the words: "Could the general give this old man some small face?"
The general hurriedly replied with utter humility: "Since you have spoken, of course, I dare not refute your request."
The general did not question Zhou Qiucheng's identity; one's demeanor cannot be faked, and if a pretense were exposed, all these commoners would be doomed.
Noble dignity must not be trampled!
In this world, many pretend to be wealthy, but none have ever pretended to be noble successfully.
Moreover, he would not believe so easily; he would report to the princess and await instructions. When two nobles meet, authenticity is quickly determined.
The soldier addressed Chen Ping:
"You, kneel by the roadside and await the passage of the noble."
Chen Ping, helpless, could only kneel by the roadside, awaiting the carriage of the noble to pass.
In Great Victory Dynasty, the hierarchy was clear; they were merely commoners. Provoking a noble could only lead to pacifying rather than complicating matters.
Seeing people kneeling all around, the general nodded in satisfaction, yet the next moment, his gaze passed Zhou Qiucheng and fell upon Zhang Chen.
All the surrounding commoners kneeled simultaneously, naturally exposing Zhang Chen's figure.
However, the general was no fool; anyone standing without kneeling in such circumstances must be unusual. Though Zhang Chen wore coarse linen, he had an indescribable Immortal Dao demeanor. The general, with discerning eyes, dared not question him, to avoid landing himself a major trouble, but instead returned to report to the convoy; he was not without intelligence.
The convoy from Prince Pingbian's Mansion in the Northern Land continued onward, and the general approached the carriage where Bai Cang was located, respectfully saluted: "Master, a person ahead claims to be Zhou Qiucheng of Chongzheng Academy, do you wish to meet him?"
"Zhou Qiucheng? This rascal survived in Chen Sanliang's hands? What a rare occurrence." Bai Cang pulled back the curtain, glanced ahead and indeed saw Zhou Qiucheng, then his gaze shifted to Zhang Chen beside Zhou Qiucheng, and his eyes brightened. He instructed the general: "Indeed it is Zhou Qiucheng. Invite Zhou Qiucheng and the gentleman standing beside him here."
At this point, Bai Cang added: "Remember, show respect to that gentleman, and don't have any negligence."
The general's pupils contracted upon hearing, silently thinking: "Definitely not simple."
Zhang Chen glanced at the kneeling Chen Ping, not knowing what to say, in this strictly hierarchical nation, a humble background was an original sin.
Watching Chen Ping, Zhang Chen saw his forehead touch the ground, yet the veins in his neck bulged.
Just as Zhang Chen was about to utter some comforting words, the general returned, approached Zhou Qiucheng: "Old master, my lord invites you over for a conversation."
He then turned to Zhang Chen with utmost respect, bowing and gesturing: "And this gentleman, my lord invites you as well."
Zhang Chen pointed to Chen Ping on the ground: "Let them stand up."
Upon hearing, the general quickly said to Chen Ping: "The noble has spoken, get up quickly."
Then he made a gesture of 'please' towards Zhou Qiucheng and Zhang Chen before Zhou Qiucheng stepped forward, Zhang Chen had no choice but to follow along.
As the trio walked away, Zhou Qiucheng looked at Zhang Chen and spoke instructively: "This is the operating rule of this world; no one can break it. This world has strict hierarchy, and titles decide everything; this was the iron law set by the Great Victory Dynasty's progenitor, operated for thousands of years, and cannot be overthrown."
Zhang Chen remained silent, not rebutting Zhou Qiucheng's words, pondering something unknown.
Upon reaching Bai Cang's carriage, they saw it was a large one, a hundred and twenty square feet, like a mobile house. The horses drawing the carriage were not ordinary ones, but seasoned demon horses.
"Greetings, Madam." Zhou Qiucheng raised his hand in salute towards the carriage.
"Mr. Zhou, no need for formalities. I have long heard of your renowned name and always wanted to seek knowledge from you. It is truly a great honor to meet you today. Please, both of you, get on the carriage!" Bai Cang said.
Zhang Chen watched Bai Cang, possessing Zhang Xiaolan's body, act with a tender and alluring manner, feeling strangely unsettled.
Yet, under the attendants' service, he boarded the carriage, noticing that the interior was extremely lavish, with twelve maidservants and various antique calligraphy and paintings, landscape folding screens; truly an extreme level of luxury.
After Bai Cang invited the two to sit down, he disregarded Zhang Chen and began discussing knowledge with Zhou Qiucheng.
Zhang Chen sat beside them sipping tea, listening to their discussion, while observing Bai Cang's serious demeanor. He could not help but wonder, does Bai Cang truly like human knowledge so much?
The two discussed for a full three hours before Zhou Qiucheng showed fatigue, and Bai Cang instructed to have him sent back.
Before leaving, Zhou Qiucheng glanced at Zhang Chen, not worried about his safety, knowing that Zhang Chen's displayed divine power at Chongzheng Academy and his measures were unmatched.
Even at his peak, Zhou Qiucheng did not consider himself capable of defeating Zhang Chen.
Therefore, he was quite assured about Zhang Chen.
After Zhou Qiucheng departed, only Zhang Chen and Bai Cang remained sitting inside the carriage, even the maidservants were sent to the next room.
Zhang Chen continued sipping his tea leisurely while Bai Cang assessed him closely. After a long while, Bai Cang finally spoke, "In just a few short years, I can't discern your level, your depth of power already surpasses mine, it is truly astonishing."
"Your cultivation progress isn't bad either, surely you have reached the Ninth Tier." Zhang Chen said with a smile.
He could sense the bloodline power, feeling that Bai Cang's bloodline power had already refined to an incredible degree.
Bai Cang's expression changed, as his own details had always been tightly concealed. Numerous experts passed through Prince Pingbian's Mansion, yet no one could see through his details. But Zhang Chen unexpectedly saw through his root foot in one glance, how could he not be startled?
"I have already condensed seven tails. In terms of strength, it should be equivalent to Ninth Tier. Yet unlike the Human Race, the Fox Race's limit is Nine Positions. Once I condense the eighth tail, I can rival the Tenth and Eleventh Tier experts; once I gather the ninth tail, I can compete with Twelfth Tier beings. I just hope that, after reaching the Great Victory Royal Court, I can absorb the dynasty's aura and thus enter the Nine Positions." Bai Cang sighed deeply, his voice full of lament.
Zhang Chen assessed Bai Cang's figure, Zhang Xiaolan was already attractive, and with the Charming Skill of the Fox Race, Zhang Chen felt this Fox Spirit could indeed succeed; but he didn't think Bai Cang could fool the old masters of the Imperial Palace, for the Chai Family had dominated the world for tens of thousands of years, monopolizing the world's aura unknown how much has been accumulated, with countless means; it's difficult for Bai Cang to deceive the world.
"How certain are you?" Zhang Chen asked.
"I originally had only fifty percent certainty, but with the talisman you gave me, I have seventy percent certainty." Bai Cang replied.
"Seventy percent certainty is still low; if recognized by the Great Victory Royal Court, you'll undoubtedly die." Zhang Chen said.
"I have no other choice." Bai Cang said softly.
Hearing this, Zhang Chen paused in silence for a while before speaking, "Prince Pingbian aims to leverage Northern Land's territory to intimidate the Great Victory Royal Court to kill me, what do you think?"
"Your situation isn't good," Bai Cang said bluntly.
"Therefore, you must help me, do your utmost to assist me." Zhang Chen said.
Bai Cang shook his head, "I want to influence the Human King's Dragon Qi and affect his mind—it's a gradual task, not achievable overnight; by the time I succeed, you may well be nothing but bones."
"I have a secret technique capable of completely masking any anomalies on you, making you appear to everyone as truly human, no longer fearing suppression by the Great Victory Royal Court's secret techniques, nor fearing its Dragon Qi…" Zhang Chen looked at Bai Cang, offering his bargaining chip.
His Reincarnation Seal could solve all of the other's problems.
Upon hearing Zhang Chen's words, Bai Cang's pupils shrank, "Is it true?"
"You should have learned through Fox Immortal Nannan about me; I never lie," Zhang Chen drank his tea, leisurely replied.
"If you can help me cover it up, I agree! I will definitely use all measures to assist you in maneuvering." Bai Cang swear solemnly to Zhang Chen.
He didn't promise to certainly assist Zhang Chen to escape crises and resolve all troubles, but precisely because of this, his oath appeared exceedingly sincere.
"Deal!" Zhang Chen acknowledged Bai Cang's oath.
"What means do you have to assist me?" Bai Cang asked, filled with curiosity.
"I have a secret technique called: Reincarnation Seal, which can utilize its power to cover up your soul and deceive everyone. Even the supreme secret techniques of the Great Victory Royal Court cannot discern it." Zhang Chen replied.
Simultaneously, the Reincarnation Seal was his planted backdoor; those marked by it were vulnerable to his command to be drawn into reincarnation.
