Chapter 812: Chapter 17: The Foremost Divine Power—Maudgalyāyana
Extreme northern land, amidst the vast expanse of the North Sea.
This place, following the world’s ascension, has gradually evolved into a Grotto Heaven at the North Sea Sea Eye.
However, it is different from the desolation that most people imagine.
With the concealment of the North Sea Sea Eye, large islands and land masses have gradually formed here.
Although still shrouded in the icy storms of the North Sea, the creatures living here have long since adapted.
The "power of evolution" born after the Pathfinder’s enlightenment is clearly manifested in these clans that reside in harsh environments year after year.
To adapt to the extreme conditions of the North Sea, the creatures here have evolved remarkably distinct ecosystems from typical species.
The Juren are the most evolved among them and the only intelligent species.
Unlike those creatures that first evolved thick fur.
Besides the pair of wings on its back, the Juren is covered entirely with dense scales.
These scales interlock, forming a tightly sealed armor-like layer.
Combined with their specialized fat layer resembling whale oil, they can fully fend off the cold on the exterior and lock in body heat within.
Of course, if typical organisms evolved such structures, it would certainly be courting death.
For once the scales are damaged, they cannot regenerate quickly in a short span of time.
During the period when new scales cover the gaps, Juren cannot resist the extreme North Sea environment, equating to "injured means death."
However, Juren are not only social creatures but also the only flying species in the North Sea besides the Kun Roc.
Juren’s nests are generally built atop cliffs.
This hasn’t changed much even after they have evolved intelligence.
Thus, even if they unfortunately get injured, Juren can retreat into their nests and wait for their wounds to heal.
More importantly, Juren, like all creatures living in extremely cold regions, have extraordinarily unique hibernation abilities.
Through the synergistic operation of internal air sacs and the body circulatory system.
Juren can sustain prolonged breath-holding, slow down metabolism, and freeze themselves for days without dying.
In such circumstances, the entire body of the Juren enters a pseudo-death state, while only the body scales grow naturally.
Once they awaken from the pseudo-death state, the scales on their bodies have naturally regrown.
"I don’t care whether you’re from the past or the future, Juren are my Clan."
Between the silence, the figure of Rain Master Shangyang manifests amidst the storm, overlooking the meditating Juren below.
Even amidst the raging storm, the Juren remains seated atop the mountain peak, with a body as stable as a rock.
"Amitabha!"
Accompanied by a low mutter of the Buddha’s name, the Juren slowly opens his eyes.
Behind him, dazzling golden Buddha Light forms a "卍" symbol rising into the sky, dispersing the fierce storm brought forth by Shangyang’s descent within a few breaths.
"All things have karma, all beings have myriad forms."
"This Juren is the former self of this humble monk, still a disciple of the ’Yu Shu Five Thunder Institute’."
Narrowing his eyes slightly, Shangyang chides with a displeased expression.
"I knew it, it’s you lunatics from the future again..."
"Since you say this Juren is your former self, why even mention the ’Yu Shu Five Thunder Institute’?"
Not allowing the Juren to retort, Shangyang continues speaking.
"In your future, I might be the True God of the Thunder Department, responsible for cloud creation and rain distribution, i.e., demon suppression and elimination."
"But to me, that’s just one of countless future possibilities."
"Appearing before me with such identity, and addressing me as such, is already a form of provocation in my eyes."
Upon hearing this, the Juren fell silent for a moment.
Never had he imagined this legendary just and upright Rain God would be such a troublesome character.
"Amitabha, this humble monk truly has no intention of provoking you."
"This body is the manifest self of the monk in the past, and my descent is in response to its call..."
"In other words, my descent itself is its wish, and a way for this humble monk to fulfill his path."
In this matter, the Juren truly did not lie.
In the future, he made a great vow to liberate all beings, and his actions followed the truth of the karma Dharma.
"Humph, all things have desires..."
"You invite through desire, and such actions aren’t honorable at all."
"In my eyes, the call you speak of is nothing more than ’seeking return with kindness.’
"Making the manifest self with the price of extending one’s life forcibly, this should not match the path you seek, is it?"
Gently gazing at the Juren below, Shangyang was not swayed by the other’s words at all.
"What I seek is the path of all beings, if beings have desires, then I have responses."
"You have prejudices against me, thus everything you see has ’eye obstruction’..."
"In fact, without me, he would already be dead; to me, this is ’liberating beings’."
"I possess not much powerful strength, my ’liberating beings’ has always begun with what is within my capacity."
With the corners of his mouth twitching slightly, Shangyang encountered such almost shameless statements for the first time.
Yet, it’s undeniable that the opponent’s argument is indeed valid.
Just think, if simply becoming a manifest self of a powerful entity could fulfill wishes, most people would hardly refuse.
After all, manifest self differs from avatar, it’s merely a embodiment born from a wish.
The current Juren is both the Juren and the Bodhisattva from the future.
They are not in a "either-or" assimilation relationship, but more like a set of mutual inclusion.
"Your Divine Power is indeed rare."
"At least compared to those Bodhisattvas I’ve encountered before, your approach is much more brilliant."
Walking from the previous era, to Shangyang, there are few secrets in this world unknown to him.
The wind is his will, the rain is his eye...
Shangyang has met many Bodhisattvas, whether they be masters of Buddha Countries in the Celestial Realm or Pathfinders descended from the future to this era.
Yet, no matter what type of Bodhisattva, they differ markedly from this "Bodhisattva" before him.
This difference is not only manifested in vows and Divine Power but also in the philosophy they embrace.
Even Shangyang cannot deny that this "Bodhisattva" indeed carries the concept of liberating beings; the difference lies only in the method he practices.
For some reason, Shangyang suddenly recalled the first Amitabha who voluntarily abandoned Buddha Country and entered the Netherworld to reincarnate.
He was the first Bodhisattva to walk out of the Six Desire Heavens, also the first Bodhisattva to voluntarily enter the cycle of reincarnation.
Afterward, Xu Jia whom he reincarnated into stirred bloody storms for a time.
Until enlightened by Tao Ancestor, following as a "servant" for many years, only then did he gradually vanish from sight.
"What is your name? From whom does your future teaching derive?"
Faintly sensing Shangyang’s tone soften, the Juren solemnly replies.
"This humble monk is Moggallana, an Arhat under Amitabha known as ’Foremost in Divine Power’"
