I Dumped My Mate—Now Every Beast King Wants Me
Chapter 169: The Cubs Fight
Chapter 169: Chapter 169: The Cubs Fight
After the male weaver left, Lantai ecstatically brought the newly crafted crossbow to find Ophelia.
Ophelia looked at the crossbow, which could fire three arrows simultaneously, her heart surging with excitement. She really hadn’t misjudged him; Lantai was truly a genius in this field.
Lantai walked up to Ophelia with a cheeky grin. "Clan Leader, does this mean I can start studying the loom now?"
Ophelia shot him an exasperated glare. "Starting tomorrow, you can come to the stone house and watch me weave, but you must promise not to touch the loom under any circumstances."
Lantai nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes, yes. I promise I won’t touch it, or else you can chop off my hand."
Over the following days, as Ophelia rushed to produce linen, Lantai stayed by her side, carefully observing the mechanics of the loom. Once he had a general grasp of how it worked, he attempted to build one himself. However, the craftsmanship required for a loom was far more complex than that of the crossbow or other tools. It wasn’t something he could fully comprehend in just a couple of days.
Ever since the one-month celebration, the wives of the neighboring clan leaders had frequently brought their cubs to visit the Fuzu Tribe. The Fu Clan didn’t have any other cubs, so the little Dragon Beasts had been without playmates. Ophelia welcomed these visits, glad that the young ones could interact. Even though the other cubs couldn’t communicate with the little Dragon Beasts, they still had a fantastic time playing together. Of course, it was also likely that the parents had specifically instructed their children to get along well with the young Dragon Beasts.
One day, Hu Ya of the White Tiger Clan bounded into the stone house, scooped Wendy up in his arms, and darted back out. "Ms. Ophelia, I’m taking Wendy out to play! Don’t worry, I’ll protect her!"
Ophelia was in the middle of weaving linen and couldn’t stop him in time. Kohen, the eldest, and Dan’er, the second eldest, quickly chased after them. Watching their retreating figures, Ophelia still felt uneasy. She tossed aside the loom’s shuttle and hurried after them.
By the stream in the Fuzu Tribe.
A seven- or eight-year-old male cub was holding a frail, five- or six-year-old male cub’s head underwater.
GLUG GLUG.
The scrawny cub struggled desperately, but the older boy was too strong for him to break free. Just as the frail cub was about to suffocate, his head was yanked back out of the water. After enduring this torment repeatedly, the frail male had completely lost the strength to resist.
"Wendy, does this look fun?" Hu Ya held Wendy up like he was presenting a treasure, his eyes brimming with excitement. "Do you like it?"
Wendy stared at the scene unfolding before her, her little brows tightly furrowed. Kohen and Dan’er, seeing the group of cubs bullying the frail boy, also wore grim expressions.
"If you don’t like it, Wendy, I’ll have them try something else," Hu Ya said. He then raised his voice and shouted, "Hey guys, change it up for Wendy!"
The male cubs in the distance shouted their acknowledgment.
Lobak, the bullied cub, squinted toward where Hu Ya was standing. He saw a chubby, fair-skinned little female cub nestled in Hu Ya’s arms. She was incredibly pretty, a delicate and exquisite little doll that one couldn’t help but adore at first sight. It was just a pity that she was in cahoots with his tormentors. Still, he figured that getting to see such a beautiful little female cub before he died was enough.
"Brothers, stall them for me. I’m going to get Mother to save him," Wendy said.
Kohen and Dan’er nodded. "Mm-hmm."
Hearing the three little Dragon Beasts babbling away, Hu Ya assumed they were enjoying the show and grinned happily.
Kohen and Dan’er exchanged a glance and trotted over to the stream on their short legs. Dan’er positioned himself protectively in front of Lobak, baring his teeth at the surrounding male and female cubs. Meanwhile, Kohen pressed his head against the male cub who had just been bullying Lobak, releasing his unique dragon pressure.
However, since he had only just turned one month old, his aura was negligible against these older cubs.
"What are you doing?" The male cubs were furious at the sudden interruption of their fun. Being only a few years old, their anger quickly made them forget the strict instructions their families had given them.
"Wendy, what are they doing?" Hu Ya asked, completely bewildered by the actions of the two little Dragon Beasts.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Wendy wriggled her little body and struggled out of his arms. Once on the ground, she pumped her short little legs and sprinted toward home.
Seeing that the male cubs were about to fight Kohen and Dan’er, Hu Ya abandoned Wendy and rushed over to intervene. "Kohen, why are you protecting a piece of trash like Lobak? His father is a Wandering Beast! He deserves to die; he shouldn’t even exist in this world!"
Having inherited the racial memories of a Dragon Beast, Kohen naturally understood what a Wandering Beast was. Hearing the male cub’s words, Kohen turned his head to look at Lobak. Yet, he could sense Lobak’s aura clearly.
"COUGH, COUGH! My father is a Snake Beast, not a Wandering Beast!" Lobak coughed, but he retorted with unusual firmness.
"Isn’t a Snake Beast just a Wandering Beast? He used his looks to seduce the most beautiful young female of the Tiger Clan and spawned a bastard like you! He deserves to die!"
Hearing his father insulted, Lobak’s eyes turned red with fury. Clutching his chest, he wanted to fight the male cub to the death, but his previous ordeal had completely drained him. He didn’t even have the strength to walk. After barely taking two steps, he stumbled and nearly collapsed, only to be caught by Kohen and Dan’er.
Lobak looked at the two little Dragon Beasts with immense gratitude. "Thank you... thank you both."
"Kohen, Dan’er, do you really have to make enemies out of us?" Hu Ya asked.
"Yi-ya, yi-ya!" Kohen babbled. He was telling them that he wouldn’t let them bully anyone.
"Woo-la, woo-la!" Dan’er joined in. He meant, "That’s right! You bad male cubs, we never want to play with you again! Get out of the Fuzu Tribe!"
Although the male cubs couldn’t understand the dragon language, they could tell from the pair’s body language just how thoroughly they were being cursed out. The male cubs were at a hot-blooded and impetuous age; provoked like this, their tempers immediately flared.
"Brothers, since Kohen and Dan’er want to go against us, we won’t be their friends anymore. They are our enemies now!" one of them shouted. "Come on, let’s teach them a lesson!"
The male cubs launched their attack. Being so young, Kohen and Dan’er couldn’t withstand the blows for long and were quickly overpowered. Moreover, remembering their parents’ strict warnings not to expose their superpowers in front of others, they had no choice but to endure the beating.
Seeing the situation escalating, Hu Ya finally remembered his family’s instructions and rushed forward to play peacemaker. "Stop messing around! Everyone, stop it!"
But the riled-up male cubs were beyond listening to reason.
A few of them pinned down Kohen and Dan’er, while the rest turned their attention back to Lobak and resumed their assault. Their strikes were brutal this time, and before long, blood was seeping from the corners of Lobak’s mouth.
Meanwhile, hearing the sounds of a scuffle erupting behind her, Wendy pumped her short legs even faster. When she finally spotted the familiar figure ahead, tears of relief welled up in her eyes.
"Mother! Help! Help!" Wendy wailed, throwing her arms around Ophelia’s legs. "Those people are beating up my brothers! Hurry and save them! There’s also another little male cub they’re beating up. He’s so pitiful!"
Ophelia’s expression shifted drastically at the news. She scooped Wendy up from the ground and sprinted in the direction the little girl pointed!
