Chapter 4197: Chapter 4185: Someone Makes Things Easier

This kind of line, in Lin Yi’s view, was completely useless.

Especially since Lin Yi was way too familiar with this kind of talk.

People who’d tried to act tough in front of him before, when they left, would always say something along these lines.

But in reality, it was just venting, totally meaningless.

"Don’t say that yet, let me go look for it first."

The security manager, Liu Nan, sat down in front of the computer and started looking for the video from that day.

Clearly he knew what had happened that day, and directly pulled up the footage from the nightclub entrance.

"Here, this is the guy." Liu Nan pointed at the surveillance footage on the screen.

The image was a bit blurry. You could only see someone arguing with Wang Wenli; as for what the guy looked like, you couldn’t make it out at all.

"Anything else?" Lin Yi asked.

"Let me check outside. After the argument they left, we should have footage of them leaving."

"Okay."

Liu Nan operated the computer skillfully and dragged the progress bar forward a bit.

They saw six people walking out of the bar, three men and three women.

The one leading the group got into a Ferraris SF90, pulled his female companion in with him, and drove off.

"It’s this guy driving the Ferraris." Liu Nan pointed at the screen.

Lin Yi jotted down the license plate number and sent it to Xiao Bing; they’d be able to find out the owner soon.

After getting the info he wanted, Lin Yi and Wang Shuting looked at Liu Nan.

"What was your relationship with Wang Wenli like? Did you know much about her normally?"

"Wenli was pretty nice, she was polite to everyone. We’ve even had meals together, she was a really decent person."

"What about her personality?"

"Her personality was good too, typical northern girl, doesn’t go looking for trouble but isn’t afraid of it either, pretty gutsy, very outgoing."

"So basically, aside from that guy in the Ferraris, she didn’t have conflicts with other people, right?" Lin Yi asked.

"That’s what we know. As for her private life, we don’t really know much."

After that, Wang Shuting asked a few more questions, then left with Lin Yi.

Once they stepped outside, Lin Yi checked the time. "It’s noon, want to grab lunch together?"

"Sure."

Wang Shuting didn’t play coy. She wanted to talk more with Lin Yi about the case anyway—her mentor had assigned this case to her, she had to crack it as soon as possible.

"From what we’ve seen so far, these colleagues didn’t give us much. We might need to start with her family."

"Not necessarily. I think there’s something off about Wang Dongliang."

Lin Yi said:

"His first reaction when he heard about Wang Wenli’s death was really strange."

"Strange?"

"Do you remember what Liu Nan and the other guy looked like when they found out?"

Wang Shuting replayed the scene in her head. "Normally speaking, their reactions were fine."

"Right, which is exactly why I’m saying Wang Dongliang’s reaction wasn’t normal."

"You don’t think he’s the killer, do you?"

"He probably isn’t, but he likely knows more inside info. I think you should focus on him."

Wang Shuting didn’t say anything, thinking back on Wang Dongliang’s state.

Her attention had been on the surveillance footage, and she’d overlooked Wang Dongliang; his behavior really was a little too calm.

Wang Shuting looked at Lin Yi with a smile.

"I keep feeling like you’ve had some kind of training in this. Your investigative instincts are ridiculously sharp."

"Just a hobbyist, really, not as amazing as you think." Lin Yi said with a grin:

"Did you track down the suspects from the surveillance?"

"We’ve already compiled all their info. After they left Fenglin International, they drove off. Footage from the toll station shows they most likely went north. We’re in touch with the local police to arrest them; we should have results soon."

"In that case, their counter-surveillance skills aren’t as good as we imagined."

"That still depends on how things play out. We’ll see how our luck holds."

Riiiing—

Just then, Lin Yi’s phone rang. It was a call from Xiao Bing.

"Lin Bro, I found him. The guy’s name is Xu Ning. His family runs a paint business. In Zhong Hai, he’s a pretty well-known rich second generation. Aside from that, nothing particularly special about him."

"Got it."

"Want me to dig deeper?"

"Not for now. If something comes up, I’ll call you."

"Okay, okay."

After hanging up on Xiao Bing, Lin Yi dialed Liang Jinming.

"Bro."

"In Zhong Hai’s circle, do you know a guy called Xu Ning? Family does paint business, drives an SF90."

"What’s up with Old Xu? Did he piss you off?"

"Not really. He’s tied up with a case, I want to meet him. Think you can help me get in touch?"

"No problem, easy. Pick a place, we’ll come find you in a bit."

"There’s a café at your building’s entrance. Let’s meet there. I’ll head over to your place, you call him now."

"Okay, I’ll call him right now."

After hanging up, Lin Yi looked at Wang Shuting.

"Found the guy. We’ll meet him later and talk."

Wang Shuting stared at Lin Yi, stunned for a good while.

"You found him that fast?"

"Just lucky. My friend happens to know him." Lin Yi said:

"But I don’t think we’ll necessarily get much out of him. These rich people do have money, but they’re usually not stupid. They don’t go around hiring killers with cash, and most of them don’t have the guts for that anyway."

"I feel the same. But the case is stuck here, so we have to talk to him first. As for Wang Dongliang, I’ll have someone bring him in right away and dig into him properly."

"Yeah."

This kind of thing should be done sooner rather than later—moving fast avoids trouble down the line.

Before long, after the two finished eating, Lin Yi drove to Tangchen First Class, with Wang Shuting following behind.

When she saw Lin Yi park right in front of Tangchen First Class, Wang Shuting was shocked.

"Your friend lives here?"

"Come on, who doesn’t know a few rich friends these days."

"The thing is, being able to live here means you’re not just ’a bit’ rich." Wang Shuting teased with a smile.

Lin Yi smiled, and led Wang Shuting to the café at the entrance.

As soon as they walked in, they saw Liang Jinming, who waved at Lin Yi.

"Bro, we’re over here."

They walked over, and Lin Yi saw Xu Ning sitting next to him.

After seeing Lin Yi, Xu Ning stood up politely, looking very stiff and nervous.

"Lin Bro, you’re here."

Lin Yi nodded. "I’ll get straight to the point. I came to you to ask about Wang Wenli."

"Lin Bro, I swear it wasn’t me. We just got into an argument that day, I wouldn’t go as far as doing something like that over some chick." Xu Ning blurted out in a panic.
