I Grind to Martial Saint
Chapter 326 - 271: Weird, Part 2
"Ding Zihu, didn’t you say this Sharp Blade Evil makes it easy for corpses to reanimate?"
"Now there are thousands of mummified corpses that have been here for who knows how long, and not a single one has reanimated."
Han Yuan asked, puzzled.
"That’s what I can’t figure out either."
"I’m afraid there must be something special about this tomb chamber."
Ding Zihu said gravely.
Given the nature of a Sharp Blade Evil formation, this chamber should be filled with an extremely dense Evil Qi.
But ever since he came in, it has only felt a bit cold and dilapidated, not much different from an ordinary tomb.
This didn’t fit the characteristics of a Sharp Blade Evil at all.
"Let’s go deeper and have a look."
Hearing Ding Zihu’s words, Han Yuan didn’t dwell on the matter.
’If there really is something strange going on, we’ll find out soon enough.’
After passing through that chamber, they entered a spacious, empty tomb.
There were no mummified corpses in this chamber, only a single, cold Iron Coffin placed in the center.
"This should be the main burial chamber."
Ding Zihu murmured.
"We’ve reached the main burial chamber this easily?"
Han Yuan was taken aback.
This was very different from what he had imagined.
"In theory, yes."
"But I agree... this feels far too easy."
Ding Zihu said softly.
He channeled his energy, making the ball of Spiritual Light shine brighter.
Suddenly, Ding Zihu exclaimed, "Han Yuan, don’t move!"
Hearing Ding Zihu, Han Yuan stopped in his tracks.
"There’s something strange on the floor."
Ding Zihu said gravely.
Han Yuan looked down and finally noticed many strange, black patterns etched into the floor.
Piles of bones were also stacked in some of the corners.
He just couldn’t tell if they were human or animal bones.
"I think I have an idea of what’s going on here."
Ding Zihu mused.
"Is it related to this Array Pattern on the floor?"
Han Yuan couldn’t help but ask.
"Yes... I can’t decipher this Array Pattern... but if I’m not mistaken..."
"This should be an Array designed to gather Evil Qi."
"It’s concentrating all the Evil Qi from the Sharp Blade Evil into this main burial chamber."
"What an ambitious undertaking."
Ding Zihu exclaimed in amazement.
"So you’re saying all this Evil Qi has been absorbed by that coffin?"
Han Yuan asked.
"Most likely... which means the corpse inside... has long been cultivated into a Corpse King."
"I doubt even you would be its match."
Ding Zihu said seriously.
It wasn’t that he underestimated Han Yuan’s strength.
Having gathered Evil Qi for so many years through the Sharp Blade Evil, this Corpse King’s power would be no less than that of an Innate Grandmaster.
"So fierce... But I don’t sense any Evil Qi here."
Han Yuan narrowed his eyes.
He knew Ding Zihu was warning him not to be careless.
"It’s hard to say... The Evil Qi might be contained within it."
"You can’t judge a Corpse King by normal standards."
Ding Zihu cautioned.
"Let’s take a look first..."
"If there really is a Corpse King in there... it’s not going to let two living, breathing people like us get away."
Han Yuan said with a smile.
Ding Zihu knew Han Yuan had a point. These zombies and Evil Corpses were especially sensitive to the Essence Blood of humans.
This was especially true for Han Yuan, whose life force was as vigorous as a roaring furnace.
To a zombie, he was an unparalleled temptation.
Han Yuan told Ding Zihu to stay where he was, and the Orange Cat as well.
Circulating his Great Demon Gang Essence, he walked alone toward the Iron Coffin in the depths of the chamber.
Metal carried an aura of death.
The tomb’s occupant must have used iron for the coffin to absorb more Evil Qi.
As Han Yuan cautiously drew closer, the Iron Coffin remained perfectly still.
He decided to just get it over with, striking the coffin lid forcefully with his palm.
BANG!
The coffin lid flew off from the force of the blow.
Han Yuan was stunned to find...
...the Iron Coffin was completely empty.
He had expected to find a Corpse King lying inside, just as Ding Zihu had predicted.
But now, it seemed he had been overthinking things.
’What’s going on...’
Han Yuan gestured to Ding Zihu, who was waiting at the chamber’s entrance.
Seeing the signal, Ding Zihu quickly came over with the Orange Cat.
He too frowned upon seeing the empty Iron Coffin.
"The Corpse King... where did it go?"
Ding Zihu was completely baffled.
"I don’t know... It’s probably not in the tomb anymore."
Han Yuan said.
So that was why they hadn’t encountered any danger on their way here.
The main attraction had already left the tomb.
"Even though a Corpse King is powerful... its mind is muddled. It shouldn’t be able to leave on its own."
"Strange... This is too strange."
Ding Zihu couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation in this tomb.
Judging from the tomb’s scale and the large number of guards buried alive...
...its owner must have been a person of very high status.
But now the body had vanished into thin air.
"Let’s see if there are any other clues in this chamber first."
Han Yuan said quietly.
"Right... We might be able to find some information about the tomb’s owner."
Ding Zihu nodded.
Usually, figures of this stature liked to have their life stories carved into the tomb walls.
Yet after he and Han Yuan made a full circuit of the room, they found the walls were completely bare, with no murals or anything of the sort.
There weren’t even any decorative patterns.
They searched the entire chamber, but apart from the Array Pattern on the floor, there were no clues to be found.
"It seems the builders of this tomb intentionally concealed the owner’s identity. There’s no information at all."
Ding Zihu said quietly.
"Yes... They didn’t even leave behind any burial goods."
"This tomb is certainly interesting."
Han Yuan nodded.
Even so, Han Yuan had no intention of wasting any more time here.
After all, more important things awaited him.
They left the mysterious main burial chamber, intending to return to the surface.
But when they left the main burial chamber and returned to the room with the sacrificed guards, Han Yuan frowned. "Something’s not right."
Ding Zihu looked at the dense rows of mummified guards and frowned. "What’s not right? Wasn’t it just like this before?"
"Yes... When we came in, the eyes of these mummies were all pointed at us."
"So why are their eyes still pointed at us now that we’re leaving?"
Han Yuan said quietly.
His words instantly made Ding Zihu’s scalp crawl.
He had completely overlooked that detail.
Now, as he looked at the mummified corpses, his expression became extremely wary, even tinged with a hint of terror.
Just then, a figure in a black robe silently appeared in the chamber.
His appearance surprised Han Yuan; he hadn’t sensed another living person here at all.
Han Yuan called out, "Who are you?"
The black-robed man spoke in an extremely grating, hoarse voice. "Who I am is not important. What’s important is that you’ve learned something you shouldn’t have."
"So... please, remain buried here forever."
Han Yuan sneered. "On your own?"
The black-robed man shook his head. "Relying on *them*!"
With a wave of his hand...
The mummified corpses in their iron masks, dead for who knew how many years, suddenly released a powerful, putrid stench of decay. They seemed to awaken, strange noises coming from their mouths.
"Ancient warriors... for our king!"
"Slay all of these outsiders!"
The black-robed man raised his hands high, his words sounding almost like a chant.
Holding spears, the empty eye sockets beneath the mummies’ iron masks began to glow with a crimson light as they suddenly charged at Han Yuan and Ding Zihu.
Ding Zihu was stunned by the sight.
An army of several thousand mummified corpses, charging like soldiers from the underworld—it was a terrifying spectacle.
Han Yuan took a deep breath.
’It’s obvious he has no intention of letting us leave here alive.’
’In that case, I’ll just have to see...’
’...who’s the one that isn’t walking out of here!’
"Kill!"
With a great roar, Han Yuan faced the thousands of mummified guards, hefted his Dragon Sparrow Cloud-Splitting Saber, and charged forward into the fray!
Seeing this, Ding Zihu also found his courage, raising his Eight Trigrams Mirror to shoot out beams of golden light.
Even the Orange Cat took a deep breath and began spitting out one fireball after another!
