Chapter 417 - 362: The Open-Air Banquet in Front of the Shop (3)

Chapter 417: Chapter 362: The Open-Air Banquet in Front of the Shop (3)

Li You really wanted to go over and swat it dead.

Flies are one of the most annoying summer pests, and they’re absolutely everywhere.

This pest may only have a lifespan of about a month, but its incredible reproductive ability means their numbers are practically endless.

Flies are holometabolous insects, meaning they undergo complete metamorphosis, but their development is extremely fast. They can grow from an egg to an adult in just one week, two weeks at the most.

Complete metamorphosis is one of two types of insect development.

The other is incomplete metamorphosis.

An insect that goes through only three stages of development—egg, nymph, and adult—is said to undergo incomplete metamorphosis.

In contrast, an insect that goes through four stages—egg, larva, pupa, and adult—undergoes complete metamorphosis.

Among common insects, dragonflies undergo incomplete metamorphosis, lacking a pupal stage.

Butterflies, mosquitoes, and flies, on the other hand, all undergo complete metamorphosis, which includes a pupal stage.

A fly’s reaction speed is incredibly fast, about ten times that of a human. Its flying ability is also formidable. It can launch itself into the air, make unbelievable sharp turns, and instantly change its direction and altitude.

That’s why it’s extremely difficult for an ordinary person to swat a fly with their bare hands.

What you might perceive as a quick movement is nothing more than slow motion to a fly’s compound eyes, which have over 4,000 individual lenses.

Using a tool like a fly swatter greatly increases the success rate.

For Li You, however, the success rate of swatting a fly bare-handed was much higher than for an ordinary person.

After receiving the system’s "Body Strengthening" reward three times, his physical functions, reaction time, and speed had far surpassed those of a normal person.

So, he was now quite interested in testing himself. ’Can I really swat that fly with my bare hands?’

He stood up and approached soundlessly.

Just as he got into position to strike the fly and was about to make his move, the system’s voice echoed in his mind.

"The current scenario meets the conditions for generating a game instance. Game instance generating.

Instance Name: Annoying Flies.

Mission Objective: Eliminate 20 flies.

Mission Completion Reward: 1,000 lbs of Ham (Ingredient, Quality: Superior).

Do you wish to enter the game instance?"

This voice was a wonderful surprise for Li You. He’d been hoping for a game instance to appear, and he never imagined it would be triggered by simply trying to swat a fly.

’Surprises really do appear when you least expect them.’

Ham was one of the key supplementary ingredients for Wensi Tofu. 1,000 pounds of superior-quality ham—it couldn’t get any better than this.

This game instance had come at the perfect time.

However, Li You didn’t choose to enter the game instance right away.

Instead, he lashed out, swatting at the fly.

’This fly may have done me a service by triggering the game instance, but it still has to die.’

Li You was incredibly fast. The fly sensed the danger and immediately executed its launch-and-flee maneuver, but it was too late.

Li You’s palm slammed it onto the table, flattening its body. It was as dead as dead could be.

Li You was very satisfied.

Though he didn’t succeed every single time he tried to swat a fly bare-handed, his success rate was around eighty percent.

’Not bad at all.’

After flicking the dead fly’s corpse off the table, Li You returned to his rocking chair and leaned back against the backrest.

Only then did he choose to enter the game instance.

His vision began to blur.

When his surroundings came back into focus, he found himself in an unfamiliar environment.

Of course, Li You was quite experienced with this by now.

It was supposedly an unfamiliar environment, but it wasn’t really. He was still in front of his shop; his body had just been shrunk countless times, making everything around him look strange.

He put on his gear, ready for battle.

Once he was fully equipped, he checked his stats.

"Qi and Blood: 550

Attack: 16

Defense: 32

Agility: 14."

’Not bad at all. Now, what are the monster’s stats? Will I be able to crush it easily?’

Soon enough, a gigantic fly appeared.

"Monster Name: Fly

Qi and Blood: 50

Attack: 8

Defense: 10

Agility: 15."

’Its Agility is higher than mine. But there’s a pretty big gap between our other stats. I should be able to win this pretty easily.’

Still, he couldn’t afford to be careless.

The mission required killing twenty flies, which meant there was more than just this one. If a whole swarm of them appeared and attacked at once, Li You would be in big trouble.

’Hopefully, these things have some sense of honor and will attack one by one.’

In any case, he had to kill the one in front of him first.

Li You raised his Snake Phosphorus Sword and launched an attack.

However, the fly dodged his first attack completely. He didn’t even scratch it.

’As expected of a monster with higher Agility. It completely dodged my attack.’

’Looks like crushing this thing won’t be as easy as I thought.’

No matter. He’d just try again. ’I refuse to believe it can dodge every single time.’

Li You adjusted his stance, preparing for a second attack. But before he could strike, each of the fly’s six legs suddenly fired an ice arrow straight at him.

’What the hell?!’

’It can shoot ice arrows from its legs?’

’Badass!’

Li You scrambled to dodge. He managed to avoid the arrows, but it ruined his own planned attack.

After all that, he hadn’t even managed to deal a single point of damage to its Qi and Blood.

’Maybe I was a bit too optimistic.’

But the tougher it was, the more exciting it became. ’This is what makes it fun!’

Feeling far more excited than before, Li You charged again.

This time, he finally landed a hit. The fly lost 5 points of Qi and Blood.

’Not bad. Just ten or so more hits and it’ll be dead.’

In the end, Li You successfully killed it.

However, he had also lost 20 points of his own Qi and Blood.

’Good thing my health is high. Otherwise, that could have been a close call.’

Time to kill the other nineteen.

Five flies appeared in his line of sight simultaneously. It looked like they weren’t going to fight fair and were planning to swarm him.

’Of course.’

The five flies fired their ice arrows at the same time—a dense barrage of thirty projectiles covering a huge area.

Li You dodged and parried with his sword.

But several ice arrows still found their mark, and he instantly lost 10 points of Qi and Blood.

’Getting ganged up on is a real pain.’

’A bunch of damn campers.’

But no matter how much of a pain it was, he had to deal with them. Li You pushed his speed to its absolute limit, weaving between the campers and striking out with his sword whenever he had an opening.

Although he was continuously losing Qi and Blood, he managed to inflict damage on the campers as well.

Now it was just a matter of who had more health.

Then, the pleasant surprises started rolling in.

"Item Drop: 500 lbs of Winter Bamboo Shoots (Ingredient, Quality: Superior)."

"Item Drop: 50 Jars of Baijiu (100 lbs per jar)."

"Item Drop: 200 lbs of Chicken Breast (Ingredient, Quality: Superior)."

"Item Drop: 500 lbs of Shiitake Mushrooms (Ingredient, Quality: Superior)."
