Chapter 149: Chapter 121: Consciousness Transmigration

Chen Qi silently replayed the recent events in his mind. It had all happened in a flash, almost entirely on the level of Consciousness.

No wonder Hammond had been so brazen. If he had truly wanted to die, Chen Qi couldn’t have stopped him.

His death was a rebirth. Since Chen Qi couldn’t stop him from dying, he certainly couldn’t stop him from living on.

From the moment Hammond successfully transformed into a Spirit, the tables had turned.

As soon as he confirmed Hammond’s identity as a "Scholar," Chen Qi had braced himself for the worst. Still, he never imagined things would escalate to this degree.

All one could say was that human Wisdom and madness could truly create unbelievable miracles.

’The old saying about the unique logic of the insane is surprisingly apt.’

...

"Hahaha, I actually did it!"

"Is this what it feels like to be a Divine Spirit? I’ve finally shed my disgraceful human form."

An orb of ethereal blue light emerged from Hammond’s head. This was Hammond now.

Hammond, of course, could no longer speak. Instead, it transmitted information by disturbing the surrounding electromagnetic field.

Strangely, the surrounding magnetic field remained neutral toward it, showing no signs of trying to Assimilate or Devour it.

This was likely an ability possessed by a Spirit, or perhaps one of its inherent traits.

Chen Qi was rather disappointed by this, as it meant there was nothing left to restrain Hammond’s movements.

"Heh, you’re an interesting one. Quite clever."

"I’m sure that right eye of yours can see me. Why not take a shot?"

"I’m quite curious, what exactly is your Superpower?"

Hammond zipped around Chen Qi gleefully, a clear provocation.

Yet Chen Qi remained unmoved, making no attempt to attack.

Having experienced several major battles, Chen Qi knew that a pointless attack would only expose his own abilities and weaknesses.

The main reason Chen Qi didn’t attack Hammond was its incredible speed.

Moreover, a field-based lifeform isn’t bound by physical shape or size.

The ethereal blue lightning that Hammond currently appeared as was merely a facade; with a single thought, it could dissolve into a mere ripple.

Though it was currently a Life Magnet Field, it could transform into a Matter Field in the next instant.

There was simply no way for Chen Qi to get a lock on it.

And as for relying on his Spiritual Eye, that would be an even bigger mistake.

Because the Spiritual Eye was dependent on his eyeballs, it was limited by his field of vision.

At least, that was true for Chen Qi’s current Spiritual Eye; after all, he had only cultivated its Low-level form.

The field-based lifeforms Chen Qi had targeted before were all static. A Spirit like the current Hammond was simply beyond the capabilities of his Spiritual Eye to lock onto.

The bastard had clearly figured this out, which was why he was being so provocative. His goal was to bait Chen Qi into revealing his Superpower.

’That bastard knows way too much about players.’

Hammond had been outrageously arrogant when he was alive, but he had become much more cautious in death.

...

"Tsk, tsk. How boring. You figured it out again."

"To maintain my structural integrity, I can’t reach the speed of light, but I’m still moving far beyond the limits of your reaction time."

"Honestly, if you hadn’t gone through an Awakening and gained Spirituality, you wouldn’t even be worthy of my caution."

"You probably think I can’t do anything to you now, don’t you? After all, I’ve just transformed into a Spirit and haven’t acquired any Spiritual Energy yet."

Hammond’s words startled Chen Qi. That was, in fact, exactly what he’d been thinking.

A Spirit without Spiritual Energy was just a slightly larger magnetic field-based lifeform.

And that was something Chen Qi truly didn’t fear.

It was no exaggeration to say that if Hammond dared to charge at him now, Chen Qi could use his Spirituality to wipe him from existence.

So, even facing Hammond as a Spirit, Chen Qi felt he had the upper hand.

The instant Hammond died, Chen Qi had already coated his entire body in his Spirituality.

Their silent battle of probing and defending had started long ago.

But Hammond’s last words showed that he, too, had an ace up his sleeve.

This inevitably reminded Chen Qi of the legends surrounding the death of a "Scholar."

’So what exactly did the legends mean by "terror"?’
