Chapter 606: Chapter 605: A Maiden’s Heart

"You’re done packing so quickly?" Colin looked back at her.

"Kase and the others said they didn’t have much to pack, so I have the other [Dimension Bag]." Ale showed him the bag in her hand. "I just need to toss my things inside. It’s no trouble at all."

"Fair enough. I have a lot of little trinkets myself." Colin turned back and began packing them, and Ale came over to the bedside to help.

They were packing away peacefully when Ale suddenly froze.

Colin turned his head and saw that she was holding the handkerchief he had received back in Silverpine Village. The pair of lifelike embroidered birds on it were very eye-catching.

"Is this your handkerchief?" Ale asked.

"Er..." For some reason, Colin felt his voice catch in his throat, unable to get a single word out.

Ale blinked. "Why didn’t you tell me?"

"I bought it myself."

"Why would you lie?"

"Ah? Right, I forgot. You know, I was on a mission in Silverpine Village before. Someone gave it to me back then." Colin scratched his cheek.

"Did a girl give it to you?" Ale quietly folded the handkerchief with great care and put it into the [Dimension Bag].

Colin didn’t dare lie again and just gave a silent nod.

Then he quickly added, "But I didn’t accept. You know, Kase and I were really poor back then. We weren’t even sure where our next meal was coming from."

"I figured as much." Ale nodded.

Colin snuck a glance at her expression.

The Half-Elf had her head down, her gaze lowered.

The expression meant she was a bit dejected.

Seeing this, Colin scratched his head. In the end, he didn’t know what to say and just went back to packing his things.

Ale helped him, and to anyone who didn’t know her, it would have seemed as if the Half-Elf’s mood hadn’t changed at all.

After they finished packing, the group gathered in the square.

Colin handed the packed [Dimension Bag] to Kase and silently watched him place the items on Big Hoof Treasure’s back.

As usual, Big Hoof Treasure gave a protesting look, but Kase completely missed the horse’s meaning and simply finished tying on the luggage himself.

The group brought their luggage to their new lodgings and quickly got everything settled.

It was worth mentioning that the free breakfast provided by the tavern here was much more lavish than at their last apartment. It was basically the equivalent of ordering whatever you wanted from the menu at the tavern on the corner.

During this time, Colin would have some lamb soup and soft White Bread every morning. Each breakfast made him feel as though he had briefly returned to modern life, which was quite comfortable.

Unfortunately, these enjoyable days didn’t last long.

A few days passed, and the day the group had planned to leave soon arrived.

At one point, Colin made a special trip to Edwin’s office. He asked him to look after Bob and Old Black Heart, lest the two non-combatants get caught up in the gang wars.

Only after the Paladin promised him personally did Colin feel completely at ease.

In any case, those gangs shouldn’t be able to stir up any real trouble right under Edwin’s nose.

That morning, Colin got up, donned his Armor, and after making all his preparations, slung on his backpack and walked out the door.

Ale, who lived across the hall, opened her door as she always did and fell into step behind him naturally.

She was wearing a [Dragon Patterned Robe] decorated with Dragon Scales and holding a [Bear Heart Staff].

However, the Half-Elf’s delicate features made this equipment look more like fashionable clothing than combat gear.

Colin’s sharp eyes noticed that the tips of a few of her fingers were slightly red. "What happened to your fingers?" he asked.

"Um... I accidentally burned them during breakfast." Ale lowered her head and quickly hid her hands behind her back.

’What kind of Flame could burn a Dragon Vein Mage with Golden Dragon blood?’

’She must have hurt herself by accident,’ Colin thought. ’The girl has Dragon Scale protection, after all. I wonder what kind of "accident" that could be.’

Since she clearly didn’t want to talk about it, Colin didn’t press the issue.

The two went downstairs and met up with the others. Leading Big Hoof Treasure, they headed along the main road toward the North District of Thousand Masts City.

The first thing one noticed upon entering the North District was the quiet.

Even though the main roads of the North District were still lined with shops and taverns, there was no sound of hawking or brawling. Nor were there any drunks passed out by the roadside or loitering gang members.

Every so often, one could see a guard post manned by the City Guard. That was probably why the North District was free of troublemakers.

Just as Colin was thinking this, the City Guard emerged from the booth and strode toward them. "You’re not locals, are you?" he asked as he approached.

"You’d be sorely mistaken to think that." Before Colin could speak, Dorn stepped forward, holding out his hand to display his Seal Ring.

"My apologies, sir. Please, carry on." The Guard gave it a single glance before speaking, then quickly turned and returned to his post.

The group resumed their walk along the main road toward their destination.

"He didn’t even suspect our rings were fake. We’ll have our Dragon Slayer Warrior give him a scare later on," Dorn said smugly, rubbing the Seal Ring in his hand.

"I figure the ring probably has some kind of identification Magic on it, though no one’s ever mentioned it to me," Colin replied offhandedly.

The group chatted as they walked, and soon they arrived at the gate of the Weston Clan’s estate.

This estate looked far more magnificent than the Levin Clan estate that had been attacked by the Viper Association.

In addition to the main building, there was a slightly shorter stone house on the grounds. That smaller house alone was nearly the size of the Levin Clan’s main hall.

It had a full set of facilities, including stables. Colin could even see a glass greenhouse on the roof of the main building, and he could faintly make out blooming flowers and small birds flitting about inside.

"A house like this must cost a fortune!" Orelia exclaimed, standing at the gate.

Dorn crossed his arms. "Well, we’ll certainly never be able to afford it."

"Is it really that amazing? This house seems pretty Ordinary to me," Ale said, puzzled.

"You..." Dorn paused. "You know, you might actually be qualified to say that."

Just as Colin was about to call out at the gate, the Weston Clan’s butler came out from the inner courtyard with several servants.

As the servants opened the estate’s iron-barred gate, the butler addressed the group outside. "You have made good time, esteemed gentlemen."
