I Have a Task Log
Chapter 613 - 612: Decapitation in the Array
Chapter 613: Chapter 612: Decapitation in the Array
Several burly Orcs collapsed to the ground without even a chance to cry out.
In that single moment, the Orc Chief’s Close Guard were all slain, leaving him completely alone in the middle of the battle formation.
At the same time, Kase, who had entered a state of [Frenzy], charged forward.
His Battle Axe sliced through the air in a perfect arc. A white mist swirled around it, shrouding the Axe Blade as it smashed into the Chief’s shoulder.
The barbs on the Axe Blade bit into the Chief’s shoulder like the teeth of a living creature. A bitter chill invaded his body through the wound, and a layer of White Frost condensed over his entire frame.
The Orc Chief was forced to one knee by the force of the downward chop.
His massive body trembled slightly, veins bulging beneath his skin as if he were fighting just to keep himself from collapsing.
Colin first plunged [Burning Blood] into the ground, then drew the more powerful [Dragonbone Giant Sword] from his back, which also boasted a greater attack range.
Simultaneously, he activated his Helmet’s breath attack.
A frigid wind surged out from the channels inside his Helmet, flash-freezing the dying Orc Chief and several Orc Warriors who had turned back, turning them into solid ice sculptures.
A few deep war cries sounded from behind them.
Kase wrenched his Axe from the Orc Chief’s shoulder. The Sharp Axe Blade scraped off several crimson shards of ice from the Chief’s body.
He spun around and swung his Axe fiercely.
The few Orcs charging from behind didn’t dare to face such a large Axe head-on and quickly jumped back to dodge.
It was then that they saw their Chief, who was now an ice sculpture.
Most Orc Tribes in the world adhered to the iron law of survival of the fittest.
The Chief of most tribes was either the strongest Warrior or the most knowledgeable Shaman.
To the Orcs, the death of their Chief at the hands of an enemy meant that the foe was strong enough to wipe out the entire tribe. The blow to their morale was devastating.
Just then, the resounding call of a Horn drifted from the distance.
Colin turned his head to look.
At the top of a low hill, Albert was leading the other Knights in a charge toward them.
The Knights spurred their mounts into a brisk walk, closing in on the flank of the Orc formation.
The fully armed Plate Armor Knights held their Riding Lances aloft. Colorful banners fluttered wildly in the sunlight, as if cheering for their official entry into the battle.
Hearing footsteps, Colin immediately spun around and cut down an approaching Orc with the Giant Sword in his hand.
The blade sliced through half his body without any resistance. The exposed wound began to turn a blackish-green at a visible rate, but the Orc was dead before the poison could even take effect.
Immediately after, two more Orcs charged forward.
Colin thrust his sword, piercing the throat of one of the Orcs.
The other Orc was struck down by Kase’s Giant Axe. The Half-Orc strode forward, brandishing his Battle Axe to block the other enemies who were rushing in.
Using the time his companion bought him, Colin swung his blade.
Magic formed rapidly. A bolt of lightning roared from the tip of his sword and, with a CRACKLE, tore through the Orcs’ line.
A dozen Orcs, charred black by the electricity, collapsed to the ground, white smoke still rising from their singed hair.
Now, most of the Orcs were too terrified to attack the pair who had broken their line. The few who were still brave enough were simply no match for the two of them.
Under the effect of [Haste], Colin’s Speed was far beyond what this group of Orcs could handle. And beside him was Kase, who could completely overwhelm them.
The two of them had forcibly carved out a no-man’s-land in the middle of the Orc battle formation.
Seeing this, Colin decided against using [Any Door] to Teleport out. In any case, these Orcs couldn’t do anything to them.
"Luke!" "Luke!"
A few shouts from the Orcs could be heard nearby.
Although Orcs were belligerent, they weren’t fools who would rush to a senseless death.
They couldn’t deal with the two opponents before them, and dozens of heavy cavalry on tall Warhorses were approaching from behind.
For them, the annihilation of their entire tribe was absolutely unacceptable. It was clear that their tribe could not handle the current situation.
At that moment, the sound of hooves stamping on the grass reached their ears.
The Knights led by Albert began to urge their horses into a trot.
After hearing the shouts, all but a few hot-headed Orcs began to retreat toward a small forest in the distance. However, for at least a few hundred meters, there was nothing to provide them with any cover.
For them, this was absolutely cruel and terrible news.
But just then, one after another, mounted Scouts charged out of the forest behind the Orcs.
These twenty Scouts were the Knights’ followers that Albert had sent out to reconnoiter.
Wielding Scimitars and Short Bows, they swiftly charged toward the edge of the Orc formation.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...
The sound of distant hoofbeats reached their ears.
Once the distance closed, the Knights spurred their mounts into a full gallop. They lowered their Riding Lances and formed a wedge, like a Sharp Dagger stabbing toward the Orcs’ formation.
Even if every Orc was a hulking brute, they were still too fragile in the face of well-bred Warhorses.
Their loose formation was utterly incapable of stopping the Knights’ charge.
The orderly retreat instantly devolved into a chaotic rout. The Orcs scattered like rats before the Riding Lances, not daring to stop and face their charging opponents.
The dust kicked up by hooves mixed with the splinters of shattered Riding Lances.
The pained screams of the Orcs mingled with the battle cries of the Knights.
From his position in the midst of the battle, it was hard for Colin to see what was happening around him, and he couldn’t hear any useful information either.
He and Kase stood beside the Orc Chief’s corpse, cutting down any Orc that dared to approach. Amidst the tide of retreating Orcs, the two of them were like an unshakeable reef, unmoved by the crashing waves.
An unknown amount of time passed before their surroundings gradually quieted down.
The cries of battle faded into the distance, and the kicked-up dust slowly settled.
After confirming there were no enemies nearby, Colin finally stood still and caught his breath.
He looked around. The Recruits and Knights who still had strength were chasing down the fleeing Orcs. Only a few exhausted soldiers remained around him and Kase.
Colin glanced at Kase standing beside him and suddenly remembered his companion’s issue with Teleportation.
He clapped him on the shoulder and said, "You didn’t pass out. Nice work, Kase."
"Don’t..."
Kase mumbled a few words, then suddenly bent over and vomited all over the ground, leaving a somewhat bewildered Colin standing beside him.
"Colin, Kase, you did an excellent job." Riding his horse, Albert lifted his visor and handed his blood-stained Riding Lance to one of his followers nearby.
Colin pulled off his own visor and, after catching his breath for a few moments, said, "I can only say that this Orc Chief wasn’t a particularly tough opponent."
