I Just Started College, How Could I Become a Part-Time Papa?!
Chapter 105 - 77: Jiang Wanyi’s Life Motto
Chapter 105: Chapter 77: Jiang Wanyi’s Life Motto
Chen Yuan hadn’t expected Jiang Wanyi to say that.
But his phone had been buzzing with messages all morning, so it made sense she would think that.
"No, it’s just a female classmate," Chen Yuan explained casually, not thinking much of it.
"You should still get a girlfriend if you want one. Otherwise, what’s the point of college?" Jiang Wanyi said seriously.
"You’re more forward-thinking about this than I am."
"It’s perfectly normal. It’s part of the life experience, but it can’t get in the way of your studies," Jiang Wanyi said earnestly.
"Whether you’re a guy or a girl, making yourself a better person is the top priority. Everything else is secondary. You can’t let dating derail what’s truly important."
"My family says the same thing. They remind me every time I call."
"No, no, no, my thinking is different from your parents’," Jiang Wanyi said after a moment’s thought.
"What I mean is, don’t let dating affect your own state of being. When you become a better person, you’ll naturally attract even better people. The focus is different."
Chen Yuan thought about it. She did have a point.
"I suddenly have a question for you."
They chatted as they ate. Jiang Wanyi’s interest was piqued, and she looked at Chen Yuan with a smile.
"What do you want to ask? I’ll tell you anything and everything."
"It’s a very cliché question, but do you think money is important?"
Everyone had a different take on this question. Chen Yuan had his own ideas, but he also wanted to know how Jiang Wanyi saw it.
"Of course it’s important. Extremely important."
Jiang Wanyi gave a firm answer, not at all ambiguous.
"The next question is even more cliché. What’s more important, money or love?"
Jiang Wanyi didn’t even have to think about it and answered directly.
"That’s not a question with a direct answer. When your basic material needs are met, money is no longer the most important thing. Of course, everyone has a different standard for their basic needs, so it depends on the person. In fact..."
Jiang Wanyi paused. "There’s no single answer to that question; it varies from person to person. But, I can give you a piece of advice."
"Go on."
"Don’t have too much desire. When your desires are too great, you can’t be happy. That’s the logic behind the old saying, ’Contentment brings happiness.’ You should pursue the joy that wealth brings, not just wealth for its own sake."
Jiang Wanyi seemed moved, speaking softly.
"Study well, work hard, get a better position, earn more money... I use that money to buy clothes and toys for my child, to buy you nice things to eat, to make the food you love. That makes me very happy. I enjoy the process, and I hope you can be like that too."
Looking at Chen Yuan seriously, Jiang Wanyi said, "Don’t get too fixated on pursuing any one thing. Life is never perfect. A little satisfaction is better than perfection."
A little satisfaction is better than perfection...
Chen Yuan was deeply moved. Jiang Wanyi’s tranquil and open-minded perspective had truly taught him a lesson.
"Listening to you is more enlightening than a hundred years of study."
"Don’t be silly. I’m just rambling. I hope you don’t find me long-winded."
"Words to live by."
"You’re just a sweet-talker," Jiang Wanyi said with a laugh.
"But really, it’s fine for you to date. You don’t have to worry about me. You’ve helped me through this transition for so long, I can just about manage her on my own now."
"If you say that, I might just not come next week. Let’s see how you handle putting her to sleep all the time."
"You really wouldn’t come?"
Jiang Wanyi deflated like a popped balloon.
"I’ve only been able to hold on because you help out for two days, letting me get a good night’s sleep on the weekend. Otherwise, I really couldn’t do it. But..."
Jiang Wanyi paused, her expression turning serious. "If you really do get a girlfriend, you can’t keep coming over here. That’s a matter of principle."
’Getting a girlfriend isn’t nearly as interesting as babysitting and completing missions.’
"I’m talking to you. Did you hear me?" Jiang Wanyi chided.
"Wait! This is getting confusing."
Chen Yuan cut Jiang Wanyi off. "I get what you’re saying, but the way you’re talking makes it sound like I actually have a girlfriend. There’s nothing going on."
"I’m just reminding you. I’m worried you’ll get distracted later. Nothing is more important than your own affairs."
"Words to live by, plus one."
"Just eat your food, you’re annoying."
Chen Yuan picked up his seafood congee and took a big mouthful.
Just then, his phone buzzed again. It was another message from Fang Youning.
Fang Youning: "I need you for something. [Crying.jpg]"
Following the message was a location pin: Hongjin No.1.
He opened his map and took a look. It wasn’t far from Jiang Wanyi’s place, about ten kilometers away and a direct subway ride.
Chen Yuan: "I’ll be there in a bit."
Fang Youning: "Thank you."
After replying, Chen Yuan finished his breakfast.
"Something’s come up. I have to go."
"Go on your date, then," Jiang Wanyi said with a smile, as if she had expected this all along.
Chen Yuan blinked. ’Why does that sound a little... jealous?’
"No, I have to explain. She’s really not my girlfriend! Just a classmate!"
Seeing how serious Chen Yuan looked, Jiang Wanyi realized she might have truly misunderstood.
"I know, I know. Go on."
"Okay."
After nuzzling Mili’s cheek, Chen Yuan left.
The house grew quiet. Jiang Wanyi’s attention returned to Mili, but her mind was elsewhere.
’What’s gotten into me?’
’Why am I starting to care about him getting a girlfriend?’
’He’s young, isn’t that perfectly normal?’
"That silly kid."
Jiang Wanyi started to laugh. He had even explained himself to her so righteously.
’Is he afraid I’d misunderstand?’
*Hmph!*
A smile bloomed on her face, the corners of her lips turning up. It was hard to say if she was just infected by Mili’s cheerfulness, or if it was because of something else...
...
After leaving the residential complex, he walked a few minutes to the subway station. About half an hour later, he arrived at the complex where Fang Youning’s sister lived.
