I Just Started College, How Could I Become a Part-Time Papa?!
Chapter 205 - 113: Jiang Wanyi’s Mother Has Arrived
Chapter 205: Chapter 113: Jiang Wanyi’s Mother Has Arrived
Unable to have her night feed, Mili cried terribly. Even with Chen Yuan there, it took more than half an hour of coaxing for her sobs to quiet down. She still didn’t sleep soundly, whimpering every few minutes. This went on several times before she finally drifted into a peaceful sleep.
As for Jiang Wanyi next to him, he had no idea when she’d fallen asleep.
Chen Yuan couldn’t help but smile, seeing how soundly Jiang Wanyi was sleeping.
’She was supposed to be helping me with the baby, but for the past two days, she’s fallen asleep before Mili has.’
He quietly took out his phone and snapped a photo of her as a memento.
In the early morning, Chen Yuan, still half-asleep, felt something tugging and pawing at him.
He opened his eyes to see Mili was awake, whimpering softly and babbling...
Jiang Wanyi was fast asleep beside him, her breathing even. She wasn’t wearing a bra, and her breasts rested naturally. Half of one was even peeking out from her sleeve.
Chen Yuan quietly lifted the covers, got out of bed, and carried Mili out to the playpen in the living room.
Some time later, Jiang Wanyi woke up.
Still groggy, she reached for Mili, but the space beside her was empty. She felt nothing.
Her eyes shot open. Chen Yuan and Mili were both gone.
There wasn’t a soul in the room. She was instantly wide awake, a wave of embarrassment washing over her.
’I was supposed to be here to help Chen Yuan, to share the load. But what do I do? I slept until past nine, even later than the baby.’
’This is so humiliating...’
Her hair a tangled mess, she lay under the covers.
Jiang Wanyi wanted to get up, but she was too embarrassed to face them.
’Haven’t I just become a burden, more of a hindrance than a help?’
’How am I supposed to face Chen Yuan now!’
"But... ah..."
She sighed.
’Well, given the situation, I can’t stay in here forever. I can’t just hide in bed all day.’
She smoothed down her hair, took the hair tie from her wrist, and pulled her hair back into a simple ponytail.
After getting out of bed, she gently opened the bedroom door.
She saw Chen Yuan at the dining table, feeding the baby farfalle pasta.
Their eyes met, and Jiang Wanyi was so embarrassed she didn’t know what to do.
"What time did you two get up?"
"About an hour ago," Chen Yuan said with a teasing smile. "Sleep well?"
"Fine... Ugh! You’re so annoying!"
"I didn’t even do anything."
"You say that, but that look on your face is suspicious."
Her cheeks flushing crimson, Jiang Wanyi headed straight for the kitchen, desperate to change the subject.
"You’re not going to class today, are you."
"Nope. I already took the day off."
’Chen Yuan isn’t going to class, and he has to take the baby for her shots this afternoon. That means he’ll basically be at home all morning.’
’That’s a nice thought...’
"What do you want for breakfast?"
Jiang Wanyi opened the refrigerator. "I bought some ready-made savory pastries yesterday. I can heat one up and fry an egg for you. How’s that?"
It was getting late and Chen Yuan was starving. Jiang Wanyi didn’t want to spend too much time on anything complicated; she just wanted to get breakfast on the table quickly.
"Sounds good. Whatever you say."
She didn’t know when it started, but Jiang Wanyi loved hearing Chen Yuan say those three words: "Whatever you say."
’That’s how it should be.’
’When it comes to things at home, I should be the one in charge!’
Jiang Wanyi’s cooking skills were undeniable, so a simple breakfast like this was no challenge at all. In just over ten minutes, the pastry and fried egg were ready.
Along with a glass of milk.
"Huh?"
There were two glasses of milk on the table, but they were slightly different colors.
"Don’t stare," she said. "This is regular cow’s milk. You don’t expect me to drink my own, do you?"
Chen Yuan’s face showed he understood completely.
"Hurry and eat. The weather’s pretty nice today. I haven’t taken her out in a few days, so I want to take her for a walk later."
"Alright."
Once Mili finished her meal, she didn’t need much supervision. As long as Chen Yuan was near and she had a toy, she was perfectly content.
"Slow down. I’m not even halfway through my first one, and you’ve already eaten two. That can’t be good for your digestion."
"You got it."
After breakfast, Chen Yuan watched the baby while Jiang Wanyi washed the dishes. They each had their roles and were busy with their respective tasks.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Shaking the water from her hands, Jiang Wanyi started toward the door. A knock at this hour usually meant a delivery.
"I’ll get it."
Chen Yuan stepped out of the playpen.
Jiang Wanyi glanced down at what she was wearing—last night’s nightdress, which was quite revealing at the chest.
’It’s one thing when it’s just Chen Yuan, but it’s not appropriate to answer the door for a stranger like this. I need to be more careful in the future.’
"Okay."
Jiang Wanyi stayed in the kitchen while Chen Yuan went to get the door.
’Who the heck is that?’
Chen Yuan’s hand was already on the doorknob, but he instinctively glanced through the peephole first. It wasn’t a deliveryman outside, but an elderly woman.
"What is it?" Jiang Wanyi asked.
"There’s an older woman outside."
Jiang Wanyi froze, a wave of panic hitting her.
"It couldn’t be my mom, could it?"
"What? Your mom just shows up unannounced?"
"She probably knew the baby has her shots today, so she came over."
Wiping her hands, she rushed to the door and peered through the peephole.
"It really is my mom!"
"This isn’t the time for that! What about me? What do I do?" Chen Yuan said.
Looking at Chen Yuan, Jiang Wanyi started to panic too.
He was only wearing shorts, looking far too comfortable and at-home. There was no way she could pass him off as one of her students who’d dropped by for a visit.
’And I can’t be seen like this either.’
’Who greets a guest while wearing a slip nightdress!’
"Quick, go hide!"
Jiang Wanyi pushed Chen Yuan toward her bedroom—it was their only option.
"There’s space in my closet! Hurry, get in!"
"Don’t panic. I’ve seen this movie before," Chen Yuan said.
"Hide my shoes, and the photo frame on the TV stand."
"I know, I’ll get them."
"Where are the underwear and socks you washed for me yesterday?"
"In my en-suite bathroom."
"Okay, let’s split up. Hurry."
"Oh, right, got it."
Jiang Wanyi was truly in a panic. Without Chen Yuan giving orders, she wouldn’t have thought of any of this.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
The knocking sounded again, and Jiang Wanyi scrambled to hide all the evidence around the apartment.
Chen Yuan first ducked into the main bathroom to grab his toothbrush and towel.
Then he dashed into the master bedroom’s bathroom.
His underwear was hanging on a rack right next to hers, with his socks beside them.
He snatched them all up, rushed out, and dove into the closet, not forgetting to call out a reminder.
"I’m in!"
Jiang Wanyi’s heart was pounding in her chest as she scanned the apartment for any last trace of Chen Yuan, trying to calm herself. She was so frantic she didn’t even notice Mili babbling in her playpen.
Once she was sure everything was clear, she smoothed her hair and opened the door.
"Mom..."
"What took you so long to open the door?" Liu Fengzhi muttered.
"We’ve been weaning her off the night feeds, so my sleep has been terrible. I must have dozed off while I was playing with her."
Liu Fengzhi knew how hard things were for her daughter, so of course she wouldn’t make a fuss over something so minor. It wasn’t a big deal anyway.
"Sweetheart, come let Grandma hold you."
The moment she saw Mili, Liu Fengzhi beamed. She stepped right into the playpen, picked up the baby, and from that point on, she only had eyes for her granddaughter.
Jiang Wanyi paid her no mind; her own attention was focused entirely on the apartment.
’Over time, Chen Yuan had become like a part of the household. There were traces of him everywhere.’
’They had only done a quick sweep just now, and she was terrified her mom would spot something they had missed.’
Thankfully, Liu Fengzhi’s attention was completely focused on the baby; she wasn’t looking anywhere else.
"Sweetheart, look what Grandma brought for you."
With that, Liu Fengzhi took a little yellow duck out of her bag.
This one was a step up from Mili’s old one; it had a switch that made it sing.
Mili’s attention was instantly captured, and she started gurgling happily.
"What time are the baby’s shots?"
"One o’clock this afternoon," Jiang Wanyi said.
"Mom, you don’t have to come with me. I can go by myself. You should go home and get some rest."
"Go home and rest?"
Liu Fengzhi stared at Jiang Wanyi. "What’s that supposed to mean? Am I not allowed to come over anymore?"
"What are you talking about?" Jiang Wanyi said, exasperated.
"You spent the better part of the last year taking care of her. I just want you to get some proper rest."
"So I can’t even stay here for one night?"
"Of course you can..."
Jiang Wanyi’s confidence wavered. "You can stay as long as you want. All I meant was that I can go by myself, you don’t need to come with..."
"Duoduo..."
Liu Fengzhi looked at Jiang Wanyi, her expression suspicious.
"You know, I’ve noticed something different about you lately."
