Chapter 215: Chapter 117: Bear Him Another Son

"I’m not cold. This is fine."

"So you’ve already forgotten the pain, have you? You just got better, and you already want to go out wearing so little?"

"I..." Jiang Wanyi whined playfully.

"Look at me. If I put on thermal underwear, I’ll look so bloated. I’ll be a total mess."

"Nothing is more important than staying warm. Hurry up and put it on."

"I know, you’re so annoying."

Chen Yuan went out holding the baby, while Jiang Wanyi stayed in the room to change.

When she came out again, she looked completely refreshed and much more put-together. She was also holding the clothes Chen Yuan and little Mili needed to wear.

"This should be okay, right?"

"Pull up your pant leg. Let me see."

"You still don’t trust me?"

Jiang Wanyi pulled up her pant leg. She wasn’t, in fact, bare-legged.

"See? I wore them."

"That’s more like it."

"Hmph. You go get changed too."

"Okay."

He handed the baby to Jiang Wanyi, and Chen Yuan went back to change his clothes.

When he came out, Mili had also been changed. She was listless, lying limply in Jiang Wanyi’s arms.

"Alright, Mama, time to go see the doctor."

As he spoke, Chen Yuan walked over and took the baby into his arms so Jiang Wanyi could have a break.

Jiang Wanyi beamed. For some reason, hearing Chen Yuan call her "Mama" made her incredibly happy.

"I know."

The three of them left, with Jiang Wanyi driving them to the children’s hospital.

The hospital was more crowded than they had expected. Just finding a parking spot took quite a while.

Fortunately, they had plenty of time and weren’t late for the appointment.

After checking in, there were still three people ahead of them. How long they’d have to wait depended on how serious the other children’s conditions were.

"See? How smart was I to have you wear this outfit?" Chen Yuan leaned in and whispered.

"You’re completely stealing the show. All these other moms here... not a single one is prettier than you."

"You’re the only one who thinks so."

Jiang Wanyi was secretly delighted, but she felt a little shy.

"I’m being completely objective. There’s really no competition."

"Mili’s daddy is handsome too. No one here can compare to you, either."

Jiang Wanyi wasn’t lying; she truly believed Chen Yuan’s looks were outstanding.

But she also knew her opinion wasn’t objective.

When she scrolled through her phone, she’d see celebrities and influencers and would unconsciously compare them to Chen Yuan.

But after all the comparing, she still felt Chen Yuan was the best-looking. Everything about him was perfect.

"People who love telling the truth as much as you do are a rare breed. I graciously accept."

"Oh, you’re so vain."

After chatting with Chen Yuan for a bit, Jiang Wanyi’s mood improved, and she wasn’t as anxious as before.

"Mili, hold still. Keep your mask on." Chen Yuan adjusted the mask’s position on her face.

He was afraid she might catch something else.

"Sweetie, let Mommy hold you."

Little Mili didn’t move, just lay on Chen Yuan’s shoulder, completely drained of energy.

"I’m fine. You should rest too."

"Okay."

She nodded helplessly. ’The baby won’t come to me, so I guess this is it for now.’

"Look at that husband over there, and then look at you!"

A complaining voice came from nearby. A young woman holding a child was looking at her own husband with disgust.

"The baby is sick! It’d be one thing if you didn’t help, but you’re just making things worse. I’ve really had it with you."

"You’re the one who’s always taken care of the baby. He’s not attached to me."

"How come other people’s kids know to go to their dads? You can’t even help me share the load."

"Alright, alright! This is a hospital, I don’t want to fight with you. I’ll watch the kid from now on, okay?"

The bickering couple walked away. Jiang Wanyi glanced at Chen Yuan and the baby.

’If he were really my husband, this scene would truly make me proud.’

’But even if he’s not, it still makes me proud.’

’Chen Yuan is just better than other dads.’

"How old is your kid? What’s wrong?"

The speaker, who sat down next to Jiang Wanyi, seemed to have come alone with her child. Her hair was a mess and she looked haggard, a stark contrast to Jiang Wanyi.

"She’s almost ten months old. She got a vaccine yesterday and started running a bit of a fever, so we came to get her checked out."

"Oh, that’s nothing serious. My kid did the same thing after a vaccine before."

Looking at Chen Yuan, the woman said with envy, "I see the baby has been with your husband this whole time. Is he the one who takes care of her at home?"

"Mmm-hmm..."

Jiang Wanyi had gotten used to this kind of situation.

’Besides, no one else knows the truth. When we’re out, Chen Yuan is my husband!’

"There aren’t many men who know how to take care of a baby these days. I’m so envious of you."

Jiang Wanyi just smiled.

’He really is someone to be envious of.’

After a few more sentences of small talk, Jiang Wanyi turned her attention away.

"I think her lips look a little dry. We should give her some water."

Chen Yuan glanced at the queue number. "Let’s wait a bit longer. A little while won’t make a difference. I’m afraid it might affect the blood test results."

Chen Yuan couldn’t remember if it would actually have an effect, but to be on the safe side, the baby would have to hold on a little longer. If it did affect the test, today’s trip would be a waste.

Jiang Wanyi took out another small water bottle. "You have some."

It was also a sippy cup with a straw, one that little Mili had used before. It had been dropped a few times and the paint was chipped, so Jiang Wanyi had gotten her a new one and kept this one as a spare.

She helped Chen Yuan pull down his mask and brought the straw to his lips.

Seeing the large cluster of blisters at the corner of his mouth, her heart ached terribly.

After a while, the patient ahead of them was called in. Chen Yuan carried the baby over, bringing Jiang Wanyi to wait outside.

The wide-leg jumpsuit had a cinched waist, making her full hips seem slender and accentuating her already tall and upright figure.

Song Jianye had worn similar clothes, but the effect was completely different.

Song Jianye looked more youthful; Jiang Wanyi had more charm and sophistication.

"What are you looking at?"

"I was just wondering how you go to the bathroom in pants like these."

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, she shot Chen Yuan a look and whispered:

"You have to take the whole thing off. There’s no secret trick."

"Isn’t that a hassle?"

"It is, but it looks good."

"So, looking good is the number one priority."

"Yes," Jiang Wanyi said with a smile.

’Chen Yuan looks so manly, but he’s actually a bit childish.’

CREAK—

Just then, the exam room door was pushed open, and the previous patient came out.

Chen Yuan pushed the door open and went in. A female doctor was sitting inside.

"What’s wrong with the baby?" the doctor asked in a soft, gentle voice.

"Around one o’clock yesterday afternoon, she got her second dose of the meningococcal vaccine. Everything was normal afterward, but around midnight, she started running a fever. At its highest, it was 39.4. We gave her a fever-reducing suppository. Then she got a fever again around six this morning, so we gave her Tylenol. She’s still a bit warm now, but it’s not as bad," Chen Yuan explained.

"Besides medication and fever-reducing patches, what other methods did you use to bring the fever down? Are there any symptoms of a cough?" the doctor asked as she jotted down notes.

"We gave her a lukewarm bath this morning to cool her down. She has an occasional cough."

"Are her stools formed?"

Chen Yuan thought for a moment. "They’re okay..."

"Here, let me take a look."

The doctor came over to Chen Yuan, used a tongue depressor to check the baby’s throat, and then listened to her chest and back with a stethoscope.

"Everything seems fine. It’s not pneumonia. It’s most likely an adverse reaction to the vaccine," the doctor said.

"Do we need a prescription for any other medicine?" Jiang Wanyi asked.

"No, the medications you’ve been giving her are appropriate for the symptoms. And you even knew to give her a bath to cool her down. Your methods are all correct. Is this your second child? You seem quite experienced."

"No, she’s our first. Her dad takes care of everything..." Jiang Wanyi said.

"I can tell. With a cold sore that big on your lip, it’s obvious you’re the one raising this child." The doctor said with a hint of envy.

"You really found a good husband. Most guys these days do their ’few minutes of work’ and then act like it’s not their problem. A husband like yours is a rare find."

"Yes, yes..." Jiang Wanyi agreed with a smile.

"With such an excellent husband, you should have a son for him. It would be perfect to have one of each."

"I’ll take that as a good omen. We’ll go home and make a son today," Chen Yuan said with a laugh.
