Chapter 230: Chapter 125: Uncle, Can You Be My Dad?

In the master bathroom, Fang Youqing filled the tub and placed Zhao Wen Cheng inside.

Even though he was two years old, his bath routine was much the same as Mili’s—he had to be put in to play for a bit first.

Just then, Aunt Liu came in carrying the basin of water Chen Yuan had used to wash his feet. She poured the water into the toilet, then sat down next to Fang Youqing.

"Aunt Liu, you should go get some rest. I can handle his bath."

"It’s fine, I’m not tired," Aunt Liu said.

"What did the doctor say when you went to the hospital? Does he need any medicine?"

"They said the lining of his esophagus was damaged, but it’s not serious. For the next few days, he just needs to eat food that’s easy to digest."

"It’s all thanks to that kid, Xiaoyuan. I was so scared I could have died," Aunt Liu said, still shaken by the memory.

"I still get scared just thinking about it. My legs almost gave out," Fang Youqing said, her voice filled with emotion.

"Thankfully, we had Chen Yuan. He was the one running around, taking care of everything at the hospital. If it had just been the two of us, I hate to think what might have happened."

"How old is he, to be able to navigate a hospital so well? Whenever I go, I’m completely lost. I can’t get anything done without someone to guide me."

"He really can handle it all. All I did was drive; he took care of everything else. He doesn’t act like a kid his age at all," Fang Youqing said.

"You don’t really think about it on a normal day, but when a crisis hits, you realize a household really needs a man," Aunt Liu said with a sigh.

"What can I do? This is my lot in life now. I just hope Xiaoning doesn’t end up like me," Fang Youqing said, sounding resigned to her fate.

"Sigh..."

Aunt Liu sighed. "This can’t go on forever. You two should find a chance to talk it out."

"There’s nothing left to talk about. We could get divorced at any time."

"What?"

Aunt Liu stared at Fang Youqing in shock. "That’s a huge decision. You need to be sure you’ve thought it through."

"I made up my mind a year ago, when that incident happened. He’s out all the time; there’s no way he’s being faithful."

Fang Youqing calmly continued washing her son. But just mentioning the topic made a nameless fire burn in her stomach. ’Her husband couldn’t even compare to Chen Yuan, an outsider.’

"Still... you should really think it over again."

The older generation held very traditional views on marriage. As long as you could make it work, you didn’t get a divorce.

But Fang Youqing’s generation was completely different.

If it worked, it worked. If it didn’t, you’d get a divorce. It wasn’t a big deal.

"There’s nothing left to think about. It makes no difference whether he’s around or not, does it? I’m the one raising our child all by myself," Fang Youqing said.

"When our son was sick in the hospital at one year old, I was so stressed I had canker sores all over my mouth. And what was he doing? Playing video games and chatting with other women. What can I possibly expect from him?"

Aunt Liu wanted to say something else, but on second thought, what he’d done really was too much.

"You’re right. Things are good now with me here helping you look after the child," Aunt Liu said.

"Besides, you’re still young. It would be easy for you to find someone else. It’s just not right to run a household without a man."

"I’m raising a boy, so finding someone new won’t be easy. And even if I did, there’s no guarantee he would treat Chengcheng well. Plus, I just don’t have the heart for it right now. The two of us are doing just fine on our own."

"Sigh, it really is harder to find a partner when you have a son..."

After they finished his bath, they wrapped the boy in a towel and carried him to the master bedroom.

Looking at her son, scenes from the hospital flashed through her mind.

’That kid, Chen Yuan, really is a good person. It would be a wonderful thing if he and Xiaoning ended up together.’

’As for letting the two of them stay the night, Fang Youqing admitted to herself she had her own ulterior motives.’

’It was late. By the time they got back, the school dorms would be locked. And who knew where they would end up staying then?’

’She didn’t mind them dating, but staying out together overnight as freshmen? That was unacceptable.’

"What are you doing? Stop pulling on that!"

Seeing her son tugging at himself for fun, Fang Youqing sternly stopped him. Zhao Wen Cheng just giggled mischievously.

She was at her wit’s end with him, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

’It’s so small. What’s so fun about pulling on it all the time?’

She picked up the baby lotion from her vanity, preparing to apply some on her son.

Zhao Wen Cheng was very well-behaved, sitting perfectly still.

"Son, Mommy has a question for you," Fang Youqing said.

"What question?" Zhao Wen Cheng asked innocently.

"If Mommy and Daddy separated, who would you want to live with?"

Zhao Wen Cheng froze. His little brain seemed to short-circuit; he couldn’t yet comprehend such a complex question.

"Can I only pick one?"

"Yes, only one."

"Can I choose Uncle Chen?"

Wait, what???

Before she asked, Fang Youqing thought she already knew the answer. It was something of a rhetorical question.

’She had raised him single-handedly; of course he would choose her.’

’But for a question with such an obvious answer, he had actually chosen Chen Yuan!’

’How was she, his mother, supposed to feel about that!’

"Why do you want to choose Uncle Chen?"

"Because I like Uncle Chen."

"So you don’t like Mommy?"

"That’s why I wanted to pick two, but you only let me pick one," Zhao Wen Cheng said glumly.

Shifting her position, Fang Youqing asked, "What if you could pick two?"

"I’d pick Mommy and Uncle Chen."

Fang Youqing was quite satisfied with that answer.

"Can you tell Mommy why you like Uncle Chen so much?"

"I don’t know. I just like playing with him."

Zhao Wen Cheng looked at Fang Youqing and asked, "Mommy, can Uncle Chen live with us every day?"

"Of course not. Uncle Chen has to go to school, so he can’t live here every day."

"After Uncle Chen finishes school, can he live with us every day then?"

Fang Youqing burst out laughing at her son’s innocent question.

"He’s not Mommy’s husband. Why would he live with us every day?"

"What’s a husband?"

"It’s another word for daddy."
