Chapter 91 - 73: Inverted Mountain
Chapter 91: Chapter 73: Inverted Mountain
The next morning, Chen Yuan was woken by the sound of Mili’s crying.
He had just picked up the child when he heard footsteps outside, their timing almost instantaneous.
Chen Yuan suspected Jiang Wanyi was equipped with an electromagnetic catapult.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
"The door’s unlocked."
Chen Yuan sat up in bed, shirtless, the blanket covering his lower body.
Given their current relationship, seeing each other like this wasn’t a big deal anymore. In fact, it was gradually becoming normal.
They both seemed to have settled into a comfortable dynamic; he no longer had to be overly formal when she washed his clothes, underwear, and shoes for him.
Once Chen Yuan picked her up, Mili’s crying subsided significantly. He gently patted her back and hummed a nursery rhyme.
Jiang Wanyi came in wearing nothing but a large, oversized T-shirt, pulling off the classic ’no-pants’ look. There was also a large wet patch on her chest.
"What’s with the..."
"My milk came in. I didn’t dare express any, so I’ve just been enduring it. Quick, give me the child."
"So you were already awake."
"Of course I was."
Jiang Wanyi leaned over to take the child, and her ample chest hung low.
’Fellow cultivators, I have seen Inverted Mountain!’
After Jiang Wanyi left, Chen Yuan was in no hurry to get up.
His phone was blowing up with messages, most of them from the External Relations Department.
He Xiaoxi: "It went viral! Our account is going viral! @Chen Yuan!"
He Xiaoxi: "We’ve gained over 3,000 followers since last night, and the number is still climbing!"
Li Yong’an: "Give it a few more days, and I bet we’ll break ten thousand followers."
Huang Shengyuan: "Once we pass ten thousand, we’ll be able to start monetizing!"
Li Haoci: "Everyone, chant with me: Brother Yuan is a god!"
After that, Jiang Shuyi and Jin Yechao chimed in too. Everyone was dreaming about the bright future ahead. The External Relations Department’s golden era was about to begin; the underdogs were finally having their day.
He opened TikTok and saw that the video of him singing last night had over 200,000 likes and more than 9,000 comments.
Those were great numbers, even for a major streamer.
Fang Youning’s video, however, hadn’t done nearly as well, though it still garnered over 1,000 comments.
At this rate, they really weren’t far from monetizing the account.
He exchanged a few messages with the External Relations Department group and then got ready to start his day.
He grabbed his clothes and changed into the new underwear Jiang Wanyi had bought him. Following the principle of "you get what you pay for," they were certainly pricier than the ones Comrade Li had bought.
After he was dressed and had washed up, Jiang Wanyi handed the child back to Chen Yuan.
She hadn’t washed up yet; knowing Chen Yuan was going to driving practice today, she had hurried to the kitchen to cook.
Breakfast was very Chinese-style: sea cucumber congee, mantou slices pan-fried in an egg coating, and some fried bacon and ham.
"I’ll watch the child, you go eat," Jiang Wanyi said as she walked over, gathering her hair and tying it into a bun. She handled every detail with homely competence.
"Let’s eat together. If I leave, you won’t be able to eat."
Chen Yuan placed Mili in her small stroller. He had a high affinity with her; as long as he was there to soothe her, she would stay quiet in her stroller. Finishing a meal wouldn’t be a problem.
The same couldn’t be said if it were Jiang Wanyi.
"You really know her so well."
She sat down in the chair beside them, looking at Mili with a mixture of love and exasperation.
"When you’re not around, she’s like a wild horse that’s broken its reins. She’s never this well-behaved."
Chen Yuan chuckled. "Takes after me. My mom said I was the same way when I was little."
"And you have the nerve to say it," Jiang Wanyi chided. "You’re not exactly well-behaved now, either."
"I’m a perfect gentleman in front of you. So proper it’s almost perverse."
"Hmph. You’re just full of yourself."
’His hands and feet did behave themselves, to be fair. His eyes, on the other hand, were another story.’
’Still, the little rascal was surprisingly thoughtful. He might seem rough around the edges, but he considered everything.’
’If he left and she were on her own, she really would have a hard time finishing her meal.’
The two of them sat at the dining table. Chen Yuan kept his focus on the child, but he also spoke to Jiang Wanyi.
"I’ve got my eye on the child. You eat first."
"Thank you, then."
Blessed with his 100% affinity stat, Chen Yuan kept Mili settled peacefully in her stroller. She wasn’t perfectly behaved, but as soon as Chen Yuan’s expression turned serious, she would become much more obedient.
"Try the sea cucumber in the congee. It soaked for a little under 24 hours, so I’m worried it might be tough."
"It’s a little, but it’s not a big deal. It’s nice and chewy, actually. The texture is pretty good."
"I soaked a few more yesterday. I’ll make them for you tomorrow morning; they should be perfect by then."
"You should eat more of this. It doesn’t matter whether I have it or not."
"What’s the difference who eats it? Don’t overthink it. Just eat."
"Mm."
Chen Yuan ate while keeping an eye on Mili, and the two of them managed to finish their breakfast in relative peace.
Jiang Wanyi desperately wanted to give Mili a talking-to. The baby was never this obedient for her, her own mother. It was infuriating.
After breakfast, Chen Yuan didn’t rush off. He watched the child for a few more minutes while Jiang Wanyi cleared the table.
"Bye-bye, Mili," Chen Yuan said, waving.
"Baba~~~"
Mili couldn’t talk yet, so it was impossible to tell if she was saying "bye-bye" or "dada."
"Give him a kiss."
Jiang Wanyi held the child and brought Mili close to Chen Yuan.
"Mwah~~~"
After getting a kiss, Mili giggled happily. Chen Yuan said goodbye to Jiang Wanyi and left.
Once he was in the elevator, Chen Yuan suddenly remembered why the box of sea cucumbers had looked so familiar.
A while ago, when he’d been a guest at the Wangs’ home, the gift Uncle Zhang had prepared for Song Jianye included sea cucumbers. The box was identical.
Anything prepared by Uncle Zhang was guaranteed to be top quality.
