Razen yelled from behind the sealing array, "Who are you!"

But he didn’t receive any response.

The tree roots ignored the corpses of the Earth Spirit Clan members; instead it focused on the corpses from the vampire and werewolf groups.

Its as if it knew where the meat was and which once would taste the best.

Even though the invaders’ strength was overwhelming, the Earth Spirit Clan was also no pushover.

In their favorable environment their might was terrifying as well, so obviously there were casualties among the invaders.

One by one these corpses were dragged underground using the roots from the Nightmare Origin Tree.

Just like how a plant absorbs sunlight, water and nutrients from the soil, it absorbed the mana and the corpses.

The invaders couldn’t see what was happening since their perceptions were blocked behind the sealing array, but it didn’t take a high IQ to guess what was happening, especially since soon after the corpses were dragged down, new leaves sprouted on the tree.

These leaves were colorful, not following any pattern, but the blood red and silver colors were the most prominent ones.

Vance said coldly, echoing everyone’s thoughts, "It is absorbing them and their powers."

Everyone looked pissed.

Blood red and silver color was the trademark color of the Blood Aspect used by the vampires and the Silver Moon Aspect used by the werewolves respectively.

Another vampire said something similar but with a higher pitch, "It looks like some kind of tree that grows by devouring."

They knew, the one thing that was a pain in the ass to deal with were things that grew by devouring. These things, if they got enough prey, would become stronger quickly, and there was a chance that these things could use the abilities of the ones they devoured.

Many were envious of these things and beings. They broken, born with a cheat. It is as if they were favored by existence.

Usually when things or beings like these appeared in the universe, they were immediately killed or captured and turned into slaves. No one wanted to risk leaving things to luck.

These things or beings were commonly called Disasters. An uncontrolled Disaster was, well... a Disaster.

Razen gritted his teeth. "A Disaster and it is not a newborn..."

Any other place he would have been jumping with joy to encounter one, as a successful capture of one would mean he could exchange it for a lot of resources from the clan.

But meeting one on an alien planet, and one whose strength they were unaware of, was not a good thing.

Worse, the shitty tree appeared at the moment they were inside a sealing array and in a place surrounded by corpses.

It was as if it had been waiting for this... which was kind of scary and made them wary.

Razen asked the guy beside him, "Are you sure this planet does not have an Immortal?" He already knew the answer; he just wanted to confirm.

While it might be tough for other races to become Immortal, Disasters didn’t face this issue.

If they had enough prey, that is food, they could become Immortal very quickly.

Normally a Disaster would become Immortal within 10,000 years if they had constant supply of food.

The guy named Jasper knew this but still answered, "Reverend Immortal Mystic Moon did not sense an Immortal. While he said there was a being close to it, he told us not to worry about it since this being is confined to Hell."

Razen asked, "Then how do we explain this tree?"

Jasper said as he saw the leaves on the tree increase as if it had consumed the best tonic in the world, "It must have been born recently, but that space split it did is worrying. It means it proeffecient in Space or worse had a Space Aspect."

"Also were not able to see where its main body is, and dealing with something like this with our strength suppressed to the Mortal Realm is suicidal."

Jasper continued with some fear. "I have encountered a Disaster before and it is safe to expect the worst. The monster we had encountered had an ability to resurrect nine times, and each time it died it grew stronger."

"And the worst thing was it grew stronger as we fought. Each kill it made it stronger instantly, as if it was absorbing the stats of its kills."

Razen had a solemn look. Even he had heard of similar things, but right now he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed about his bad luck. He barked, "Little shits, put some power behind those attacks!"

Then he howled.

His body grew more muscular and his silver eyes shone like the moon as he attacked the array.

While he knew the tree would probably be a difficult opponent, he knew it had an obvious weakness, that is it needed time and corpses to grow... and if it didn’t get it, it was also easy prey.

Looking at their leader, the others also howled and attacked like their lives depended on it.

On the side, the vampires also went all out.

...

Argus looked at the smile on Night’s face and shook his head. He guessed while Night might be strong, the enemies were no pushover either.

What he didn’t know was that the reason Night smiled was not just because of the city he received, but because of what his Nightmare Origin Tree was doing right now.

Ever since his recent evolution, the Nightmare Origin Tree had been playing a more active role.

After all, it was his Main Body to begin with; it was the source of the Nightmare Mist, Nightmare World and Nightmare Domain.

Everything he had revolved around it as a core, and seeing it in action made Night feel like he was finally able to show his true self to the outside world.

As they were standing here, the Nightmare Origin Tree had already secured the stationary City Core and even got its hands on the invaders’ corpses.

And with these corpses came memories. Not just memories of their home world.

These were warriors and experts.

One thing that Night lacked was knowledge on how to fight and use weapons. This was the reason he was tempted to kill the people in Dream City. From their corpses he might have been able to get memories on how to fight.

Alzebeus’s body had fragmented memories and they were not much help other than to provide him with snippets and records.

But these guys came and dropped right into his lap exactly when he needed it.

Night thought of a wise saying: Good deeds are rewarded.

Truly it was a wise choice to spare them; he got something better here and it had not day.

The Nightmare Origin Tree had stopped devouring Alzebeus’s corpse. It realized this as well and even teleported most of the invaders corpses into the Inner World so that it could devour them faster.

The response was immediate. Night felt memories appear in his mind, memories of these fallen warriors. The best part was that all of them were Cultivators and Evolvers.

Suddenly he paused. For the first time Jeffy and Teffy saw a stunned look on his face.

The next thing they saw was him using his blade to slash at space and jump in.

Lucy followed him, but Argus, Jeffy and Teffy didn’t know what to do, and as they hesitated the slit closed by itself.

The wind blew as it carried leaves and soil particles with it. Three figures stood at the base of a mountain.

The three figures, Argus, Jeffy and Teffy stood looking at each other.

Argus’s gaze, which looked like a caring adult when it looked at Night, changed the moment it landed on Jeffy and Teffy.

Suddenly Jeffy and Teffy felt they should have followed their comrade without hesitation.

...

Rango stood up abruptly, which caused his injuries to flare up.

Fuckkkkkkk, he cursed inwardly.

But his attention was focused on the space slit in front of him. His pack mates, aka his wives, also responded the next moment and stood around him.

While they bickered before, they were a tight knit family, and would be willing to die if it meant their husband could live.

Night appeared inside the cave. The first thing he saw was a group of wolves that looked awfully familiar.

Lucy appeared behind him and she was stunned as well when she saw them.

Lucy said unsure, "Well, this is a coincidence... right?"

The wolves looked at them in a daze.

"No shit..."

Even Rango looked like he was in an illusion. He bit his broken tongue to check, but the pain let him know it was real.

Cough.

Some might ask why his tongue was broken. Well let’s just say it had nothing to do with battle...

...

In Nightmare Castle.

Night had already sent his four clones into his Inner World to be summoned by the clone in the Sky Mountain Region in seconds if needed.

Right now he was sitting cross legged, eyes closed but he was not meditating.

He was in fact communicating with the Nightmare Origin Tree.

Communicating with it was harder than he expected, since this time the target of communication was himself.

Him in a different form. And it seems the Nightmare Origin Tree also struggled with the interaction.

But after a few back and forth thoughts he understood what it wanted him to do.

It wanted him to turn Wispr into his Totem Soul.

It said the Devil had an interesting ability and it was better to be used by the Devil itself.

This made Night wonder...

Can it sense what kind of ability a being has without devouring it?
