I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 179: Demigods attack the Dream City
Zora activated the City Merger Token, and ancient runes appeared from the Void, covering the Dream City.
?Their group was high up in the sky.
Night was using the Wind of Desolation to fly, while Sara did the same.
?Meanwhile, Arthur looked like he was using some kind of flying skill, while Zora was floating like she didn’t weigh a thing.
?Night, Sara, Zora and Arthur prepared themselves seeing it.
?Then, just as Zora had been worried about, their only Demigod, Zora, had disappeared somewhere as soon as the city was covered in runes.
?Seeing her disappear Night, Sara, and Arthur looked around and couldn’t find or sense her anywhere.
?Arthur said, "She must be in a similar space to where we go during the Awakening Ceremony."
?Night taunted, "She is with the ’Fair System,’ huh?"
During his Awakening Ceremony, a white ball that looked like the representation of the System had claimed it was fair when he had asked it.
?Night wanted to ask where its fairness went now that he was blocked by it like a damn virus.
?For the first seven years of his life, he had been blocked from the System by that organization, and just when he finally got the System and experienced its convenience, it abandoned him like he was some kind of plague.
?It even had the gall to taunt him when he became a City Ruler.
?Night snorted in annoyance, unwilling to think about the pest known as the System.
?’My Dream System is better. It can even give me EXP Crystals.’ Night felt better when he thought of this.
?’Maybe I can sell these EXP Crystals on the System Shop through someone and break the market?’ he thought with an evil gleam in his eyes.
?The City Merger made everyone in the city stop and look up. They all felt like something major was going to happen, and this time the impact would be much greater than when the Desert City citizens had teleported to their city out of nowhere.
?Rogan, Jeffy, and Teffy looked up at the sky from the Conqueror Guild.
?Teffy said, "I see Night and two others in the sky. There was one more, but she disappeared just before the runes covered the city."
?Jeffy asked, "So, do we go to them?"
?Teffy scoffed, "And what, get killed? The sword guy should be Arthur. He looks on edge right now. What if his sword slipped accidentally and cut us in half if we showed up unannounced?"
?Rogan said, "He wouldn’t do that. He is a good kid. Without him, we wouldn’t be living in the cities, but out in the wilds at the mercy of the monsters."
?Jeffy and Teffy didn’t say anything. It was rare for Rogan to praise someone, and Arthur was one of the rare few who held a favorable impression in his eyes.
?Rogan then squinted his eyes and asked, "What is that ominous mist around that boy and the witch? Doesn’t it feel similar to our boy Night?"
?Teffy replied, "Yes, it’s him." He didn’t want to say it out loud to the old man, but it seemed the guy had only been toying with them when he claimed his eyesight was poor.
?’No wonder! It must be an act to make the poor monkey do the accounts... The little thing must still be thinking that this old coot’s eyes have become blurry and was working extra hard.’
?The brown monkey beside them looked up at Teffy and tilted its head in question when it saw Teffy looking at it with pity...
?Just when he was about to tell the monkey the truth, they heard loud roars and screeches.
?The sky, which previously only held three people, had now changed. At the edge of their vision, they could see hordes of monsters that looked like black dots.
?And they seemed to be heading straight toward the city.
?Teffy and Jeffy felt their nerves tense up when they realized each dot gave off a Demigod aura, and these dots appeared to be rapidly closing in on their city.
?In no time, they could see the clear outlines of the monsters as they drew dangerously close to the city.
?Rogan ordered, "Go help them. I think they are after the City Core, and these monsters look strong. And this time, don’t run away and leave the boy behind like startled chickens when the situation gets tough."
?Jeffy defended himself, "It was him who kicked us out! I was ready to go all out to kill them all!"
?Rogan glared at him, the disappointment in his eyes obvious.
?Teffy chimed in, "He is not lying, we really were kicked out, though he didn’t use his legs."
?Rogan turned to him, his gaze full of suspicion.
?Teffy raised his hands and defended himself, "We are not footballs! Why would he kick us?
Then he shrugged and said "We were sent back amicably."
?Hearing this Jeffy’s lips twitched, while Rogan sighed.
Rogan, "Just go defend the city. I doubt we have any human Demigods left in the city after the lass disappeared, so I ask you guys to push yourselves, kill a bunch of them, and become Demigods."
?Jeffy and Teffy looked at each other, clearly unwilling. They had their own set of troubles; otherwise, they would have become Demigods a long time ago.
?But now, it didn’t look like they could stall anymore. If they didn’t do something, the city would probably fall and a lot of innocents would die.
?Sighing, Jeffy and Teffy’s bodies blurred, and like a mirage, they merged into one and disappeared.
?...
?In the sky, monsters came in massive hordes. Among them, not a single Mortal Realm monster could be seen.
?Arthur, who had been initially confident, felt his palms get sweaty just looking at their numbers.
?He could see at least hundreds of Demigod monsters, and when he looked further back, even more monsters seemed to be closing in on them.
?Arthur said, "I think we failed to plan this properly." His voice sounded strained.
?Night, covered in Nightmare Mist, said, "I already expected something like this."
?Arthur turned back and looked at him in shock. "And yet you agreed? no...wait... why didn’t you warn as?"
?Sara replied instead, "It’s not like the situation would get any better by stalling. As time passes, more and more dungeons will break until no monsters below the Demigod Realm remain on the planet."
?Night agreed, "Yes. and for some reason, it seems our planet has too many dungeons, or rather, too few people who can clear these dungeons. If I didn’t know that in Hell the Devils clear dungeons the moment they appear, I would have thought this world had already been claimed by the Apocalypse."
?Arthur wanted to say many things, but in the end, he could only say two words: "Humans failed...."
?By then, the monsters had already reached the borders of the Dream City.
?Night asked, "How does EXP sharing work? If we fight together, will we share EXP?" He knew how EXP sharing worked among Devils, and he wanted to see if it was the same for humans.
?Arthur nodded. "Yes, it depends on the contribution. Why do you ask?"
?Night said, "Nothing. Let’s kill as many as possible so that you can break through to the Demigod Realm first."
?Arthur nodded. "That’s the plan."
?Just then, Jeffy appeared beside them. He appeared so fast that Night only noticed him when he was right next to them. His Nighmare Domain failed to detect him since Jeffy petty my appreared bypassing it unknowingly.
?Jeffy grinned. "Yo!!!"
?Night blinked. "I didn’t think you were this brave."
?Jeffy puffed out his chest. "I was always brave!"
?Sara smirked. "Rogan must have kicked him out of the house."
?Night and Arthur chuckled at that.
?Arthur said, "I thought you left after Zora refused to let you guard the city."
?Jeffy scoffed, "No, we settled here. And it’s her loss for not choosing us to guard the city."
?Arthur coughed. "Cough, she was worried you might bring bad luck like you did to the Desert City..."
?Jeffy shot back, "Me, bad luck? Wasn’t it you who fought that crazy witch in the city....? If I had to guess, it all started the moment you sneaked into the city using that divine skill..."
?But he couldn’t finish the sentence because a Demigod monster had already reached them.
?The monster was the size of a bus. It looked like a rat, but it had grey skin with spikes all over its body and two bat-like wings. It’s eyes filled with greed had locked onto them.
?When it reached them, its mouth widened so much that its jaw was now twice the size of its body.
?Screeeeee!
?It started with an Area of Effect sonic attack, targeting all of them at once.
?Just before the attack hit them, Arthur defended first by swinging his sword. His hand moved like a blurr even in the Nightmare Domain as a streak of sliver light left his sword.
Somehow, his it cut right through the sound and weakened the attack so much that what reached the others barely felt like a teenage girl’s scream.
The rat paused in suprise not expecting it’s attack to be defended by mortal realm awakeners.
?Then, five black roots that were as thick as his hand, shot out from Night’s body and moved with an unnatural speed to bind the rat.
It happened so fast that the monster failed to dodge it one root around its neck, two around its wings, and the last two around its legs.
?The rat was caught completely off guard. It had just retracted its mouth back to normal, only to be held up in the air like a flag.
?It tried to break free, but a hammer, a sword, a huge fireball covered in Nightmare Mist, and a blackish-purple beam hit it at the exact same time.
?Though the attacks were made by Mortal Realm Awakeners, the damage they did was no less than that of a Demigod.
?The hammer turned almost half of its body into a broken mess, the sword cut apart the remaining half, and the fireball and beam finished it off for good.
?Its body was destroyed beyond recognition, yet the black roots that had held it didn’t have a single scratch or burn mark on them.
?The remaining parts of the body rapidly dissolved and were absorbed into the roots, just like a plant absorbing water and nutrients from the soil.
?Jeffy looked at Night, who was retracting the black roots, and asked, "Why do those roots feel way more dangerous than the horde?"
?It was not just him; the powerhouses in the city and the other group with Night’s clone watching from outside the city felt the same way.
