Chapter 75: Chapter 74: Beastman?

"Wen Miaomiao, I don’t get it. What does any of this have to do with you!" Huo Jiao acted like she was Lin Zhenxiang’s personal guardian.

"This has nothing to do with you either, but you’re still tripping over yourself to stick up for her! If you can stand up for someone, what makes you think I can’t?" Wen Miaomiao’s comeback left the other girl speechless.

Lin Zhenxiang gently tugged on Huo Jiao, then stepped forward to face Wen Miaomiao. Her choked voice was thick with aggrievement:

"It’s true that my family’s restaurant received a shipment of diseased fish, but not all the fish in that shipment were infected with the plague.

We carefully select all our ingredients before cooking. The fish that was served might not have been one of the diseased ones.

The person who got sick might have just been careless and accidentally eaten the fish’s gallbladder..."

"You’re still trying to shift the blame, even now!" Wen Miaomiao cut her off, furious. "Fine! Let’s say the customer did eat the gallbladder by mistake. Isn’t that still your restaurant’s fault for not preparing the ingredients properly?!"

Lin Zhenxiang bit her lip and lowered her gaze. Tears of indignation welled up in her reddened eyes.

Huo Jiao got angry, too. She no longer cared about Wen Miaomiao’s status as the young lady of the Wen family and sneered loudly, "That pair of trash from the Lower Star District deserve an apology from our Zhenxiang!? So many people eat at the restaurant, so why are they the only ones making a fuss? How come you don’t see any other customers complaining about stomachaches!?"

"What do you mean, no one else!?" Wen Miaomiao’s voice rose, too. "As soon as this story broke, tons of people came forward saying they got sick with vomiting and diarrhea after eating at her family’s restaurant! And what happened? All those people were mysteriously silenced and had their accounts banned!"

"And another thing!" Wen Miaomiao’s haughty gaze fell on Lin Zhenxiang, sharp as a thorn. "My benefactor is not some piece of trash from the Lower Star District! She is noble by birth! Unlike this so-called Miss Lin! If I recall correctly, before Miss Lin became the precious daughter of the Lin Family, she was also just a commoner from the Lower Star District! Who knows what tricks her mother pulled to marry her way into a wealthy family!

I’m even starting to suspect that her and her mother had something to do with my benefactor’s disappearance when she was seven!"

Wen Miaomiao’s words caused an uproar.

Some of the students started looking at Lin Zhenxiang differently.

Lin Zhenxiang’s face slowly turned ashen. She bowed her head, lowering her eyes to hide the malevolence within them. Her fists were clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms, the pain a desperate attempt to control her rage and other, unidentifiable emotions.

A boy from Class One, Edgar, popped up to play the hero saving the damsel in distress.

"Wen Miaomiao, what are you doing here? You already transferred out, so why are you back? Do you really think you can just waltz in and out of Class One whenever you feel like it?!

Coming here to bully people just because you’re the young lady of the Wen family... you really think there’s no one in Class One to stop you, huh?!"

"Edgar!" Wen Miaomiao’s eyes were full of warning. "If you don’t want another beating, you’d better shut your mouth!"

Edgar was rather wary of You Dan, her childhood friend. The spot where You Dan had punched him yesterday was still swollen.

Lin Zhenxiang, playing the victim, swallowed her indignation and said softly, "Edgar, just leave it... Wen Miaomiao and You Dan are very close. If You Dan finds out you’re picking on her, he won’t let you get away with it."

"Afraid of him!?" Edgar stuck out his chin and declared, "That bastard You Dan only knows how to throw his weight around! Wen Miaomiao, you two really are two peas in a pod! Even transferred classes together!"

"Even if You Dan didn’t have his noble status to back him up, you’d still be no match for him, Edgar!" Wen Miaomiao stated firmly.

Edgar was instantly humiliated.

His humiliation turned to fury. "Wen Miaomiao, I’ll give you five seconds to get the hell out of here! Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next!"

"One, two, three, four, five!" Wen Miaomiao counted for him. When the five seconds were up, she remained right where she was, looking at the boy opposite her with a defiant smirk. "Well? I’d like to see what you’re gonna do about it."

Edgar flew into a rage. With his features twisted in a snarl, he clenched his fist and swung at Wen Miaomiao’s left cheek.

Wen Miaomiao’s expression faltered in panic. She hadn’t expected the son of a bitch would actually hit her.

The fist flew toward her.

Her mind went blank, and she squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the impact.

Just then, the collar of her shirt was yanked from behind, pulling her back two steps.

Edgar’s punch met nothing but air, and he stumbled, losing his balance.

"Hitting a girl?"

A cool, detached voice sounded from behind her.

Wen Miaomiao turned to look and her face lit up with joy.

"Benefactor!!"

The words had barely left her lips when a figure rushed past, slamming a knee into Edgar and knocking him to the ground. The assailant followed up with two more punches to his already bruised face.

Piling injury upon injury, the attack left Edgar dizzy and seeing stars. He lay on the ground, unable to get up for a moment, not even getting a clear look at his attacker.

"You Dan!" Wen Miaomiao yelled, pulling him off.

You Dan was straddling Edgar, his eyes bloodshot as if he’d gone berserk. Ignoring Wen Miaomiao’s attempt to stop him, he raised his fist to strike Edgar again, but his arm was caught mid-swing.

His arm was held fast. Astonished, his gaze traveled from the hand gripping his wrist up to its owner’s face.

"A Beastman?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

Shu Yao: "..."

’Beastman my ass!’

Shu Yao said coolly, "Teacher Wei said you and Wen Miaomiao are the top students in Class Six now. He told me to find you two and have you mark the key points for me."

"..." You Dan pressed his pale lips together. After Shu Yao let go of his wrist, he got up, gave Edgar one last kick, and reluctantly dragged Wen Miaomiao out of the Class One classroom. His thoughtful gaze was fixed on the strange woman walking ahead of them.
