I Married the President
Chapter 574: Why Is a Grown Man So Delicate?
Chapter 574: Chapter 574: Why Is a Grown Man So Delicate?
The car’s engine died, and with it, the air conditioning. Overcome by the heat, Claire Sinclair and Theo Rhodes got out of the car. They preferred standing under the open sun to boiling alive inside.
Landon Winston tried restarting the car, but after several failed attempts, he had no choice but to get out and inspect it.
A few minutes later, Landon Winston walked up to Claire Sinclair. "Young Madam, the car’s broken down. I don’t have the tools to fix it. I’ll call for someone to bring another car over right away."
Claire Sinclair nodded, her eyes scanning the surroundings before finally settling on the main gate of Xenogen Biopharmaceuticals. "The sun is brutal," she said casually. "Let’s go over there and enjoy some AC."
Theo Rhodes said excitedly, "Let’s hurry, Master! I’m about to melt out here."
Claire Sinclair started toward Xenogen Biopharmaceuticals, but she had barely taken a step when she heard several vicious barks.
While making a call for help, Landon Winston stepped in front of Claire Sinclair, shielding her.
Theo Rhodes whispered, "Master, do you think they’ll let us in?"
"Joan Jacobs will definitely use this as a chance to get closer to me. She won’t keep us out."
"And what about Cyrus Marshall? Do you think he’ll show his face?"
Claire Sinclair smiled. "If he showed up, he’d blow his cover. I doubt he will."
"That’s what I figured."
"Hush. When the time comes, make it look convincing."
A moment later, the three of them arrived at the guardhouse for Xenogen Biopharmaceuticals. The previously barking dogs, hidden somewhere on the grounds, suddenly fell silent.
Claire Sinclair looked up at the fierce-looking security guard in the guardhouse and pleaded pitifully, "Sir, my car broke down. Can we just stand here for a little while? It’s out of the sun. We’ll leave as soon as our ride gets here."
The security guard rudely dismissed them. "Nope. Get lost, now!"
The words had barely left his mouth when the landline inside the guardhouse suddenly rang.
The security guard immediately answered the phone... The next second, his expression shifted. He began nodding repeatedly, though there was no telling what the person on the other end of the line was saying.
After hanging up, the security guard’s attitude did a complete 180. He said politely, "Our plant manager says you can rest here. If you’re feeling hot, you can come inside and have a seat."
Claire Sinclair said gratefully, "Thank you so much! I’m fine just standing here. Thank you, sir!"
"Master, it’s still way too hot out here," Theo Rhodes chimed in immediately. "Why don’t we go inside for the air conditioning? I swear I’m going to get heatstroke if we stand here much longer."
Claire Sinclair shot him a glare. "You’re a grown man. Stop being so fragile."
Theo Rhodes looked aggrieved. "I’m not being fragile, Master. I just can’t handle the heat!"
Seeing him drenched in sweat, she worried he might actually get "heatstroke." "Fine, have it your way," she said. "If you get sick, I won’t know how to explain it to your family. Let’s go inside and sit down."
Hearing this, the security guard immediately came out of his guardhouse and personally led the three of them into a cool, clean office.
This office was separate from the factory proper and just a short walk from the guardhouse. It was impossible to get a clear view of the factory grounds from there.
Before leaving, the guard said to the trio, "Our plant manager is on his way. Please wait here for a moment. If the AC isn’t cold enough, feel free to adjust it."
"Alright. Thank you, sir," Claire Sinclair said with a smile.
The security guard exchanged a few more pleasantries, then turned and left.
Claire Sinclair raised her wrist, fiddling with her watch. She was about to activate a hidden feature she had never used before when the watch suddenly vibrated.
Claire’s heart clenched. Her head snapped up as she looked at Landon Winston. "The signal here is being jammed."
