Chapter 713: Chapter 713: How Could You Treat Your Own Sister-in-law Like That

Claire Sinclair froze for a moment. Although Mrs. Quincy had compared her to her sister when they first met, she had never suggested Claire was the lesser of the two, which surprised her.

Adrian Quincy led her to the bedside. He looked down at his mother’s gaunt face and said in a low voice, "Mother, I’m sorry. You’ve suffered so much."

Mrs. Quincy shot him a disdainful look. "Don’t give me that nonsense. Claire, come here. Sit here and let Mom get a good look at you."

Claire Sinclair hesitated for a moment before sitting on the edge of the bed.

Mrs. Quincy excitedly grabbed her hand, her gaze sweeping up and down over her countless times. She praised her repeatedly, "Not bad, not bad at all. You’re much prettier than that rough sister of yours. Your hands are much more delicate, too. This is how a young lady should be. Don’t be like your sister, always rushing to the front of every situation. A girl needs to be a little delicate to win a man’s affection."

"Oh my, your belly is so big already! How many months along are you? Is Adrian treating you well? If he bullies you, just tell Mom. I’ll stick up for you. The women of the Quincy family have to present a united front. We can’t let them always get the upper hand."

"Hm, but you’re still a little thin. Are you having trouble eating? Adrian, what’s wrong with you? Your wife is pregnant, and you’re this careless? When the baby is born underweight, it’s your wife who will suffer the most. And once the baby starts fussing, Claire will have to suffer right along with it..."

’Who would have thought the real Mrs. Quincy was such a chatterbox.’

Mrs. Quincy did all the talking, only stopping for a drink of water when her throat became dry.

Only then did Claire Sinclair get a chance to speak. "Mom, I’m five months pregnant. The due date is March 18th, so there’s still a while to go."

A kindly smile appeared on Mrs. Quincy’s face. "There are still a few months left. Adrian, you must take good care of Claire. Don’t let anything go wrong, or you’ll have me to answer to."

At the mention of this, Claire Sinclair’s heart ached. It reminded her of her previous miscarriage.

An uncomfortable expression also flickered across Adrian Quincy’s face as he reached out and gently patted his wife’s shoulder.

Mrs. Quincy noticed something was amiss and frowned. "What’s wrong? Did Mom say something she shouldn’t have?"

Adrian Quincy said solemnly, "Mother, last year, Yara caused Claire to have a miscarriage. This time, I won’t let anyone harm Claire or the baby again."

"What??" Upon hearing this, Mrs. Quincy’s face instantly darkened. "What happened? Where is Yara? That wretched girl! How could she do this to her own sister-in-law!"

Adrian Quincy didn’t answer this time.

Old Master Quincy explained, "After Yara caused Claire’s miscarriage, she coerced the doctors and nurses into hiding the truth from everyone. When the matter came to light two months later, she feared Adrian’s punishment and tried to flee by car. She ended up in an accident, hitting someone and leaving them in a vegetative state. As a result of the crash, Yara had both legs amputated. She’s in prison now, with nine years left on her sentence."

After hearing what her husband said, Mrs. Quincy was so agitated she clenched her fists. "How outrageous! How could that wretched girl do something so devoid of conscience? How could I have given birth to a daughter like that? Ugh!"

Adrian Quincy suddenly spoke up. "Mother, it’s not your fault that Yara became like this. Someone used your identity to encourage Yara to do these things."

"Huh?" Mrs. Quincy was suddenly confused.

Adrian Quincy said, "As for the specifics, we can have Father explain them to you once you’re feeling a bit better. For now, you should get some rest. Claire has been up and about since early this morning, so I’m going to take her to get something to eat first."

Hearing this, Mrs. Quincy immediately grew concerned for her. "Go on, go on. Claire, make sure you eat a lot."

"Okay, okay, I’ll definitely eat a lot. You get some rest, Mom. I’ll come back to see you later."

"Go on."
