Chapter 731: Chapter 731: That Damn Woman Is Tricking Him Again

Ivy Tanner wanted to go upstairs to sleep when the landline suddenly rang.

After a moment’s hesitation, she answered the phone. "Hello?"

A man’s displeased voice came from the other end. "Why are you calling me?"

"I wasn’t trying to call you. I was trying to call someone else, but none of the other numbers went through. Yours was the only one that worked, so I thought this phone could only make internal calls."

Ethan Kingsley’s voice was grim. "Don’t bother me again unless it’s important. And don’t wander around, or don’t come crying to me if you get bitten by a dog."

"Dogs?" Ivy Tanner was terrified of dogs.

Ethan Kingsley sneered. "There are a lot of stray dogs in the neighborhood."

Just as he finished speaking, a cacophony of barks erupted outside, sounding like dogs fighting.

Ivy’s heart leaped into her throat. She whispered, "Will... will those dogs get in here?"

"The dogs won’t come in if you don’t go out."

"I understand. I definitely won’t go out."

"Be good."

Ivy scoffed and hung up the phone.

’Fine, I won’t go out! But did he really have to throw me into a dog kennel?!’

’He knows I’m afraid of dogs!’

A vicious dog had bitten her as a child, leaving her with deep-seated psychological trauma. The experience made her terrified at the mere sight of large dogs; she couldn’t bring herself to go near them.

’Since this neighborhood has so many stray dogs, it must be deserted. Ethan Kingsley probably bought the whole area for a new development project.’

’By putting me in a place like this, he’s ensuring no one but the dogs will ever find me.’

’Whatever. I’m scared of dogs, so I wouldn’t be caught dead running around anyway.’

’Then again, there’s a TV here!’

It was an old model, though. She wondered if it even worked.

Ivy Tanner walked over to the television and fiddled with it for a long time before finally getting it to turn on. At first, there was no signal, and she had to tinker with it for a while longer before an image appeared.

The TV must have been damaged by humidity. Half of the screen had normal colors, while the other half was tinted red. The volume also fluctuated, getting louder and softer on its own.

’Doesn’t matter. As long as I can watch it.’

Ivy used the buttons on the TV itself to change the channel, stopping when she found a news station. Then she went back and sat on the sofa.

With the general election drawing near, the news station provided daily updates on the candidates’ approval ratings.

Ethan Kingsley and Adrian Quincy had the highest ratings; the other candidates had almost no hope left. The two frontrunners were neck and neck, separated by only a few percentage points, with Adrian Quincy holding a slight edge.

In her heart, Ivy hoped Adrian Quincy would win. Ethan Kingsley was just not fit for the role.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have the right to vote.

The news segment ended, and a commercial came on.

A group of celebrities was gathered together, offering New Year’s greetings.

’Is the New Year coming up?’

’Or has it already passed?’

’Whatever. I’m done watching this.’

Ivy Tanner turned off the TV, went upstairs, and got ready to lie down and sleep.

Perhaps because of the sudden drop in temperature, Ivy Tanner woke up with a cold the next morning.

There was no medicine cabinet in the house, and even if there were, she wouldn’t dare take any medication randomly.

The cold grew more severe. Not only was Ivy’s throat sore, but she also started to cough. Her head felt hot and heavy, her body was drained of strength, and she could no longer get out of bed.

When the deaf maid noticed Ivy hadn’t come down to eat for two days, she went upstairs to check on her. Seeing Ivy coughing so hard she could barely breathe, the maid hurried downstairs and rushed out to find help.

「A few hours later...」

Ethan Kingsley burst through the door and sprinted up to the second floor.

When he entered the room, Ivy was fast asleep. There was no sign that she was sick at all.

A small flame of rage ignited in Ethan Kingsley’s heart. ’Damn woman, she’s tricking me again!’

Just as he was about to turn and leave, a violent fit of coughing erupted from behind him. "COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
