Orion thought of Claire Sinclair’s pregnancy, then of a crying infant, and the sliver of kindness buried in his heart couldn’t help but emerge.

Before Shadow could speak, Orion shoved his backpack at her. "I’m going in to take a look."

With that, he turned and strode toward the inferno without a backward glance.

"Orion..." Shadow’s voice was laced with resignation.

’Ever since he found out Claire Sinclair was pregnant, Orion has developed this inexplicable soft spot for pregnant women and children. I really don’t know what to do with him.’

Not long after Orion entered the sea of flames, he emerged carrying a woman covered in blood. In her arms was a wailing newborn.

As he drew closer, Shadow finally got a clear look at the woman in his arms. A flicker of shock crossed her eyes. "How could it be her?"

Ivy Tanner was unconscious and still bleeding profusely. Orion’s hands were also covered in blood; he had just cut the baby’s umbilical cord and hadn’t had time to wipe them before rushing out with the mother and child.

"Get the Ghost Doctor over here," Orion said as he walked. "I’m saving this woman."

"Yes!" Shadow nodded and quickly pulled out her phone to make a call. "Orion needs you. Get over here immediately."

After hanging up, Shadow glanced at the house as it was being consumed by the flames. Suddenly remembering something, she suggested, "Orion, should we throw that other woman’s body in there?"

Orion glanced down at the barely breathing woman in his arms. He remembered the pleading look she had given him. A wicked smirk suddenly curved his lips, and he nodded.

With his permission, Shadow turned and headed back.

A short while later, Shadow emerged from the villa shouldering a female corpse. After tossing it into the inferno, she hurried to catch up with Orion.

Shadow glanced at the woman in his arms, and then at the baby nestled against her, who was no longer crying. She frowned. "Where are you taking her?"

Orion answered nonchalantly, "We’re taking her with us for now."

Shadow was surprised. "You’re taking her with you?"

Orion didn’t answer.

’For the sake of her being Claire Sinclair’s friend, this was a favor he had to grant.’

The fire blazed hotter and hotter, like the passionate crowd gathered before the election stage at The Presidential Palace, with waves of heat rolling off it, each one more intense than the last.

Ethan Kingsley was still backstage preparing for his speech when Seth Payne suddenly received a phone call. He hesitated, unsure whether he should tell Ethan about it.

With ten minutes to go before he was due on stage, Ethan Kingsley was suddenly overcome with a desire to hear his Little Cutie’s voice. He pulled out his phone and turned it on.

The phone immediately notified him that he had received four voice messages.

Ethan Kingsley saw the number and impatiently played the messages she had left him.

"Ethan Kingsley, I just fell. I’m bleeding so much, and my stomach hurts... please come back, okay?"

"Ethan Kingsley, I’m not lying to you, I really did fall..."

"Ethan Kingsley, there’s a fire, but I can’t move... *sob*..."

"Ethan Kingsley, the fire is getting bigger..."

"I’m injured, I can’t move... please, just pick up the phone, okay?"

"Tell me where this place is... I can call for an ambulance..."

"If you’re not going to answer, then fine. I’ll find someone else."

He listened to all four messages.

’Damn that woman! What the hell is she playing at?’

Ethan Kingsley tried calling back, but the call wouldn’t go through. He turned to Seth Payne and asked, "Who’s with Little Cutie right now?"

Seth Payne said, "Everyone went back to vote for you, sir. Only the deaf girl is there."

Ethan immediately asked, "Where is the deaf girl?"

Seth Payne hesitated, his words catching in his throat.
