Arabella Donovan and the others were taken aback. She’d already escaped? Had they rushed all this way only to be one step too late?

Logan Lockhart felt as if he’d been struck in the head with a heavy hammer. He swayed on his feet and nearly collapsed.

Jessica Lockhart quickly steadied her brother, her voice laced with exasperation. “Get a grip. Just because we haven’t found her doesn’t mean something bad has happened.”

“Right, she has to be okay. There has to be another way. Hurry up and find her! So many people come and go in this complex. A grown woman running for her life with a group of men chasing her—someone must have seen something. Have you asked anyone who lives here? What about… what about the security guard at the gate? He definitely knows!”

As Logan spoke, he turned to find the security guard at the complex gate, but someone stopped him.

“Unfortunately, in an old complex like this, the security system is nonexistent. The guardhouse at the main gate is just used for package drop-offs; there’s rarely a permanent guard on duty. Most of the nearby surveillance cameras are old and broken, so we can’t count on them.”

“We did check with the two neighbors next to Miss Childs’ apartment. One wasn’t home. The other is an elderly woman who’s hard of hearing. She was likely taking a nap when it happened and didn’t notice any commotion next door.”

Jessica Lockhart’s expression darkened. “So you’re saying the trail’s gone cold? No one saw her during that time, and now we have no idea where to even look?”

“Damn it!” Logan Lockhart kicked a nearby pillar in frustration. After a moment’s hesitation, he found he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. He spun around to search on his own, but Arabella Donovan grabbed his arm.

“Write down a single character.”

“What?”

“I said, think of Yvette Chandler and write down a single character. Quickly.”

Though Logan Lockhart had no idea what she was planning, he instinctively did as he was told. With his mind preoccupied with finding Yvette, the character he wrote was a telling one.

Arabella Donovan looked at the character he’d written and let out a small sigh of relief.

“The character you wrote has the radical for ‘sun’ over ‘peace.’ This means she’s safe for the time being. As for her location, the sun is at the top. Follow the sun. It’s that way.”

Arabella Donovan glanced up at the afternoon sun, which was hanging high and slightly to the west, then hurried in that direction.

Gregory Sherwood and the others were a beat behind but quickly hurried to catch up.

Fortunately, Arabella and her group had called the police in time, and the police had sealed off the complex just as quickly. Before long, word came that several tall, heavyset, and suspicious-looking men had been found inside the complex.

The moment the men saw the police, their first instinct was to flee—a dead giveaway of a guilty conscience. They were swiftly brought under control.

This news was a huge encouragement for Arabella and the others. It meant Yvette Chandler hadn’t been taken out of the complex. As long as she was still inside, she wouldn’t get into a car crash like in the original story. She could still be saved!

But even after Arabella’s group followed the sun’s direction and searched every corner of that part of the complex, they still couldn’t find any sign of Yvette Chandler.

Excluding the possibility that Arabella’s divination was wrong, it was highly likely that Yvette Chandler was hiding, afraid of being found.

At this point, Jessica Lockhart was a firm believer in Arabella’s skills. Without a second thought, she turned to her idiot brother. “Do you have her contact info?”

“Huh?” Logan Lockhart froze, a blank look on his face.

Jessica shot him a disdainful glare, her expression screaming, ‘What use are you?’

In the end, Jessica managed to find Yvette Chandler’s contact information through internal company records.

Fortunately, Yvette Chandler had managed to grab her phone during the ordeal. But in a state of extreme panic, she had lost her composure and forgotten how to help herself.

When Jessica called Yvette Chandler, Yvette was just clutching her phone, her mind a total blank. It took her a long moment to even remember she could call the police for help.

But before she could dial, Jessica’s call came through. After they both confirmed each other’s identities and Jessica explained why she was calling, Yvette finally mustered the courage to come out of hiding and meet Arabella’s group.

And so, the harrowing search finally came to a close.

At the same time they found Yvette, the police had rounded up most of the would-be kidnappers. The rest could be left for them to handle.

It’s worth noting that when Arabella and the others went to the police station to give their statements, Caspian Rhodes—whom they’d called for help from afar—also rushed over. He was accompanied by a young man Arabella didn’t recognize.

“Mr. Rhodes, what are you doing here?”

“You suddenly asked me for a photo of Guinevere Rhodes. I was worried, so I called Solara to find out what was going on and came over immediately. How are things? You’re not hurt, are you?”

“I’m not hurt, but… Mr. Rhodes, you don’t seem at all surprised by what’s happened.”

Caspian Rhodes’s expression stiffened for a moment before he quickly recovered with a sigh. “To be honest, ever since that bizarre incident on the day of the ancestral rites, I’ve been conducting a thorough investigation into my relatives. The results… haven’t been very pleasant. Especially concerning this cousin of mine…”

Arabella’s interest was immediately piqued. “What did you find out about her?”

“You were there for the ancestral rites, so you probably remember she brought her boyfriend along. But my subsequent investigation revealed that she’s not just seeing him. She’s also intimately involved with two other men. It’s a messy situation…”

Arabella was stunned.

‘Mr. Rhodes is incredible! We only stumbled onto the bombshell that Guinevere Rhodes is three-timing someone by sheer coincidence. But he just went and investigated and found it all out! As expected of the man who holds the script!’

Caspian Rhodes took the compliment in stride, but… ‘What was that about being the man who holds the script? Something about that felt a little odd.’

“One of the men she’s involved with is a special case—his background isn’t exactly clean. And the Mr. Lockhart you came to see today happens to be one of her ‘close’ male friends. I was worried you might get the short end of the stick.”

“I see.” After hearing Caspian’s explanation, Arabella was even more impressed by his intelligence network. To think he’d uncovered the gist of the situation just through his own investigation.

“What are you doing here?”

While Arabella was speaking with Caspian, Jessica, who was standing nearby, looked in surprise at the young man accompanying him.

Hearing the exchange, Arabella turned to look. It was only then that she noticed a ridiculously thick red thread connecting Jessica Lockhart’s hand to the young man’s.

‘Tsk, tsk… look how thick that red thread is. Just how mutual are their feelings? Their bond must be so deep that I doubt even Yue Lao could sever it with a pair of scissors.’

The moment she had this thought, both Caspian Rhodes and Eloise Donovan simultaneously turned to stare at Jessica and the young man. Their strange, synchronized movement made the unexpectedly reunited couple shudder.

Eloise Donovan, who had been watching Caspian closely for some time, seemed to realize something. She narrowed her eyes, her gaze shifting from the couple back to Caspian.
